Sometimes when I get bored I spend a bit of time wandering around the LABN site, sometimes doing my moderatorly duty of tweeking things here and there where I can to maintain the standard of the site. But sometimes I may stumble upon something that isn't working or a link that hasn't been fixed and if I haven't the appropriate moderator or admin access to fix the problem then I have to leave it.
Of course being the obsessive anally retentive freak that I am, such little errors weight heavy on my mind, I can't help it they just drive me up the friggin wall!
So I wanted to start a thread where if anything is not working on the site we can post it here so that The Powers That Be - namely DAVE :D hehehe CAN fix it, and hopefully I can hold on to what is left of my sanity.

one quick question. i was looking bereaver in the characters section of the website and i couldn't find him anywhere. i know he croaked quite early in season 1 but shouldn't he be featured in the "morgue" section?

He should be, only his character profile was lost in the Great Purge '02 (sorry couldn't resist) I quite distinctly remember Dave asking if anyone had a backup copy (which no one appeared to have) so it was never reposted.
Ben had already left the game at this point, so if he has a copy of his old character Bereaver (or would like to write up a new one just to cover his actual existence in the game) then it could take its rightful place in our Morgue section.

I don't think the links to the profiles for Dathan and Krisipin are working. I don't know about any body else but i'm getting evil 'Page Not Found' errors.
And I think the mid-season two timeline is cocking up.

No, it's still not working right for me. I go to story, scroll right down to Second Mid-season Timeline and click on it. Then that cool thing happens as the page changes (which, by the way, is an effect that I LOVE!), but it gets halfway and freezes for about five seconds. When it sorts itself out the page appears with the normal layout, but where the timeline should be I get something like this:

John has reported similar problems and I am not sure what causes it. The Timeline pages is a hugely complicated fair that reads from the BBS and then assigns links to each of the entries from Heathers most accurate and thouough post references...so it could be a technical problem.
Maybe if I split the page into smaller chunks that may alleviate the errors

Matt, do you have the same problem with the Season Two timeline? You'll have to go to "The Story" link to get to the link to the old timelines... The Season Two timeline was done as different posts covering a week each.
If that one doesn't stuff up for you, then Dave's suggestion of chopping up the timeline into smaller chunks may well do the trick. If that one's weird for you as well, then I don't know what's causing it. It worked fine for me on my old computer in Australia, and it works fine on Dave's here.

I've noticed a similar problem with the home page, but not just the timeline, basically it's anything that uses the BBCode (so a link or a colour etc) and in that case I get it all broken up into bits like Matt said. However, it isn't ALL of the time sometimes I can view the pages normally and then at other times it's all broken up. :?

Ok, I dont know if this should belong to this section, but the other day when writing my post I wanted to find a description and some information on Mrs. Wyldling and I couldnt find any. Later yesterday, after a chat with some of you I wanted to find something about Father Reginald and I couldnt either.
I checked the non player characters section, and nothing, the morgue (although I understand they are quite alive) and nothing. I even checked Heather's list of actors, and nothing.
Where can I find information about them?, or some of the other npc, by Heather's list there are lots of npcs but many of them dont appear anywhere, nor they have a playing actor.
Maybe the answer is just in front of me but I just cant find it, thank you.

Sometimes if depends on whether or not the person actually had a profile written - and then, it that's done, whether Lou already moved it to the NPC forum and whether or not Dave created a link to it.
Fr. Reginald is listed in the NPC section under the catagory "other" which is extremely appropriate for him.
For checking the nonplayers, it's a good idea to check all of the various catagories. I don't think anyone remembers all the time where everyone falls, unless they're being actively used all the time.

In gathering the information for the npc's I took the npc listings as per the main site - which all link to the NPC Listings forum. Alicia Wyldling, for whatever reason, has never been moved from the Private Game section as a proposal to the NPC forum (tut, tut, NPC Moderator). Hence I didn't find her there.
The list I compiled is only of those npc's that actually have an actor assigned, since it's not a full npc list but an "actor taken" list. So the other method I used to determine whether an npc has an actor was to trawl through all the posts to date to see if there was an actor credit within a post in which a character appears. So far as I could tell Claudia Black was never credited as the actor for Alicia Wyldling within any of the posts in which she appeared, so I left her off my list.
Now that I've discovered her profile lurking in the Private Game area I will add her to the list... and since she's not been moved to the NPC Profiles forum by the NPC Moderator, I'll move her now so she can be added to the main site. :)

Hmm, I discovered Cameron Laiko still lurking in Private Game Discussion, too - though at least he'd had a credit in-game so I had him on the actor list already. I've moved him to the NPC Forum as well... There are other npc's in Private Game Discussion still, but they're quite new, so I'll leave them until Lou returns from Florida. :)
So Dave, the upshot is that you have two new npc's to link to the main page now - Alicia Wyldling and Cameron Laiko. And there should be more soon - Jamie's npc's, Shaun's new one and Amanda's new one...

All done and I added some pictures in there too (quicker than you can say "That's put marzipan in your pie plate bingo!") I've finished formatting and checking the spelling on the other newly added npc descriptions and I split the post that included write-ups for two of The Five members of The Order of Valor. Wow, I had great fun with this. Dave showed me the other day how to access the upload feature and edit the actual site, and so today I fiddled around and (with a little additional coaching from Dave) managed to link the three Brotherhood members who weren't linking correctly, and I added all the npc's who were in the NPC Forum but were not yet on the site (8 humans, 1 demon and 1 vampire).

Uh oh, now I just realised I've let myself in for a whole bunch more work. 8O Still, since I've been the one keeping Dave from doing his maintenance on the site... :oops: it's only fair I suppose.

This is just a note really, I've now moved the NPC character 'Damen "Trigger" Kirk to the NPC Forum. From now on I'm going to leave all NPC proposals in THIS forum for about a week so that hopefully most people will have had time to see them before I move them over to the moderator forum where (I'll format and spell check once moved) they will THEN be linked to the homepage.

OH! I meant to add, I'm also going to move the PC Profile for Maude Myrtle to the NPC Forum since her player has officially left the game, that character is now open for use as an NPC.
Hmm, looking at the NPC forum I can see a lot of characters that are completely eronius (such as Logan - never used in game) How would people feel about just deleting such characters? I mean characters that haven't really been used (normally old PC characters that have been abandoned such as Derek Park - the afformentioned Maude et al).
I'm just airing this thought because it's getting very busy in that forum, it'd be nice to have a little tidy up. Lemme know what you think.

OK, I had a fun but busy day today, playing with my new toy html.
I linked Damen's profile to the main page, and have added personal timeline links for all human and vampire npc's. The demons, other, Brotherhood, etc will come soon.
I also discovered many of the "Season Appeared" links didn't point to the correct posts, so they're all tidied up now for the pc's and the human and vampire npc's. Again, demon npc's, Brotherhood, etc will come soon. (Are we sensing a pattern yet?)

The personal timelines have been added for the NPC Demon and Other categories, as well as The Brotherhood and The Five. Sam was moved from "Missing" to "Human", since Kris has picked him up as an npc. And I've fixed up the rest of the non-funtioning season start links, etc.
Phew!
The Missing and Morgue categories will have to wait for another day, I'm afraid. But at least all the active NPC's are now looking gorgeous. :)

One of the reasons we keep all the NPCs wheher used or not is becasue they occupy the world we live in.
If they have been mentioned, alluded to, used, written about or even starred in a post, then they are part of the continuum. But what about when you are looking for ideas? What about new players that need a collection of people around them to flesh out their story?
Please do not delete any more Characters, NPCs or Locations. Archive them, segregate them, or give me ideas on how to isolate them from the regulars...but don't delete them.
When I saw you had deleted them my heart sank on friday but the deed had been unfortunately done. Clara, Logan, and Maude won't be missed but Derek Park and Elaine Madoc had posts on the board...they join the strange place that Bereaver has on LABN of being there but being undocumented.

I appologise for removing something that someone else may have wanted to use, I did intend to make a back up, only my computer crashed before I had the chance to save and it was all lost. Ummm...just wondering; I was looking at the History part of the timeline (when I'm bored i tend to just search a site and read everything on it over and over again to see if anythings changed...i have to get out more :P). It's been updated a bit and I was wondering if you could stick in dates relating to Matthew/Chance? (ie birth, feeling village, wiping memory, etc) 'Tis no biggy i just like to look at things like that and go 'oh look! there's me!' and then go all giggly and stuff :oops: If you need clarification on those dates then go ahead and pm me.
