charname: Thomas Brennan
race: Human
gender: Male
bdate: March 6th, 1839, an Irish farming community
group: None
position: N/A
descript: Thomas Brennan stands 6'1' and weighs about 190Ib. He has a relativly thick, muscular frame. Thomas maintains a relatively short dark brown haircut, and has equally dark green eyes. Thomas has remarkably good posture at all times, a remnant of his military service, and projects a general demeanor of self-assuredness and strength. This intimidating presence is enhanced by Thomas' numerous minor scars and abrasions. Thomas customarily wears a dark coat and jeans, usually with a dark colored or white t-shirt.
history: Thomas Brennan was born on March 6th, 1839, into a small Irish farming community. In this settlement, the effects of English rule were felt acutely, and the Irish resentment that accompanied them was present in no small amount. It is in this markedly anti-English environment that was just beginning to feel the effects of the cataclysmic downturn that struck Ireland in the 1840s that Thomas spent his early childhood.

By 1846, Ireland was well into the potato famine of 1845-1848. The Brennan family found that it could no longer support itself with its current means. The Brennan family left the country and joined the two million souls who either immigrated to America or died of starvation and disease during this difficult period in Ireland's history.

The Brennan family settled in Boston, where Thomas spent the remainder of his child hood. It was here that Thomas first became exposed to the rapidly growing Fenian movement, which had started in 1858 and had spread rapidly through America and Ireland. The Fenian's goals and aspirations coincided nicely with the anti-English sentiment which had been impressed on Thomas in his early childhood by his family and neighbors and throughout his later childhood by family and fellow Irish immigrants.

Thomas, the product of years of ingrained animosity towards the English, made a zealous and eager addition to the local Fenian forces. Thomas quickly made his way up through the local ranks and proved himself to be an apt and capable leader. The outbreak of the American Civil War in 1861 saw Thomas and many of his Fenian compatriots enlisting in the Union Army and engaging in active combat against the Confederate forces of the Slave States.

Throughout his service in the Civil War, Thomas proved himself to be an exemplary soldier. He fought bravely in numerous combats and proved himself to be calm and calculating under high stress situations. Subsequently, Thomas quickly made his way up through the ranks of the Union Army. Thomas' military record more than proved him to be thus. However Thomas' life was soon to take a turn towards the supernatural.

As Thomas' regiment "liberated" yet another plantation sometime in the summer of 1864 Thomas was sent out to look for anyone who might still remain on the grounds. As Thomas neared the slave quarters he was frozen in his path by an seeming elderly slave woman. She proclaimed that he would henceforth suffer for his actions as supporter of slavery; the wizened woman had somehow mistaken him for a confederate soldier. She explained to him that he would live the life of an immortal but suffer ageing as any normal man would, he would exist perpetually as a suffering elderly man and then he might know some degree of her peoples suffering.

Thomas awoke a few days later, the elderly slave woman had gone and he had been abandoned by his regiment. Thomas unbelieving in the slave woman’s claims, passing that night’s event off as nothing more than a strange dream. He hurried to catch up with his regiment, which he managed to do within a few days, just hours short of a major battle.

Thomas still unaware of his altered state entered battle as he always had, with the bravery and tenacity that had always marked his person. Sometime during the battle Thomas was stuck with a bullet, a bullet that very well should have killed him. But instead the pain came and passed in a second, Thomas was both frightened and disturbed by this but he fought on and the wound had closed within hours of the battles end. This he shared with no one, not even his closest friends among the regiment. Instead that night Thomas packed his meager belongings and left his regiment in search of the crone who had warped his life. Thomas desired only to live the life of a normal man and vowed that he would stop at nothing to find a way to restore himself from this "curse".

Thomas ventured across the North American continent searching for a return to a normal life. He was ageing as a normal man would but he unlike a normal man was immune to all harm. At some point in Thomas' early sixties he encountered a female daemon. The circumstances of this meeting are largely unknown as Thomas refuses to speak of it with anyone. But it appears that Thomas made a bargain with this daemon. Realizing that he could never again live as a normal man, Thomas had taken the next best offer. He would live out his immortal existence at the age at which he was cursed. Thomas had no desire to live eternally trapped inside a withered decaying husk from which he could find no escape.

With this in mind Thomas entered into the Daemons pact, he was thus forced to "mate" with the creature endowing whatever spawn they created with a portion of his soul. Something which was apparently necessary for whatever horrible plans the daemoness had for the spawn. With this Thomas was restored to his younger age; however he did not realize that through the mating the portion of his soul that was removed was replaced with some part of the Daemon with which he had mated. This gave him some of the daemons unnatural powers and also a connection with the spawn.

The exact arrangements of the pact are also unknown, but it has been revealed that Thomas must renew the pact every 107 years, and that he may cause no harm to the spawn. If he fails to renew the pact or brings harm to the spawn thus created he will instantly return to his rightful age. Thomas has since this time done his best to follow his spawn and prevent it from completing whatever goal it was created to fulfill. The greatest fear in Thomas' life is that his selfish act will somehow bring harm or even death to others, something he can barely bring himself to think about. His tracking of his daemon spawn is what has brought Thomas to the city of Los Angeles.
items: Thomas carries not items of note or exception.
powers: Thomas is immortal in that he cannot be killed through any means, though he feels pain from a wound but for a second, and all of his injuries heal within hours of their creation, and this means that he can put out of commission for some time provided enough tissue damage is incured. Thomas' physical human traits we're also heightened when a portion of his human soul was replaced with a portion of a daemons essence. The daemons essence with him does not affect his personality or anyother non physical trait.

Nick was one of two people who started LABN and left over artistic differences to start his own game elsewhere. It, like so many others, didn't fly and we find ourselves rescuing those souls who really want to participate in this kind of game.

I have to praise Nick for his writing and for his chutzpah. It takes balls to go back to the same community that stood against you once before. I am more than willing to bring him in as a player. I think he'd be a fine addition to the mix.

Ok, I helped Nick hash out this character ideal, so overall, I really like it. I do think there is one flaw and that is that the character should have some sort of weakness. If Nick could come up with some vulnerability here, then I'm all for saying yes to this.

How about any harm done to Thomas' daemon spawn is reflected upon him as a normal injury, his immortality has no effect so he feels all the pain, and heals as normal. He could also be killed if significant damage is brought upon the spawn. Also if some one we're able to break the magics created by the Daemon who stoped Thomas from ageing he would immediatle become an 164 yr old man with the physical traits there of.

This would serve to provide Thomas with a weakness as well as create a more interesting dynamic between him and his spawn, allowing for a more interesting storyline. I hope this idea will suffice...

I like it....I like it a lot actually. Loads of detail, interesting background and his parents weren't killed by vampires :p I say yay.

I think the proposals that Nick has made make this a much more acceptable character (sorry, I just don't like characters that have little or no weaknesses I find them boring) but like I said, the weaknesses that Nick has suggested make it much more palatble to me and so I'm willing to give Nick a fair go and accept this character for start in Midseason Three. (Not long to go now! :?)

I have to admit i liked the character application a lot. It was well detailed and the story seemed to contain a lot of potential.

I agree with what dave has said. I t does require great bravery to come back and that does need praise.
