French Canadians

or

French from France?

The 'This or That' Game

There's a difference?

February or August

The 'This or That' Game

Heather's picture

Depends on hemisphere. In Australia, February. In the US, August. In other words, give me summer over winter anytime.

Pie floater?

or

Toad in the hole?

The 'This or That' Game

Sid's picture

I can't wait for someone to answer this one. I have no idea what either of these choices are.

The 'This or That' Game

MrDave's picture

Pie Floater: is a Meat Pie drowned in Pea Soup
A Toad-in-a-hole is some sort of weiners baked in a bread base (never seen one, sorry)

The 'This or That' Game

Pie Floater!

A warm, nourishing cigarette

or

An empty, useless life without cigarettes

The 'This or That' Game

Meredith Bell's picture

Actually it isn't really a bread base more batter - the kind that Yorkshire puddings are made from (yummy) flour, water, milk, eggs, whisked up and cooked on a high heat in the oven. The result is crunchy on the outside and airy on the inside (if you make them right). Toad in the hole is this with sausages baked in the batter, very nice.

By pea soup, you mean mushy peas right? From a can? The kind served on bonfire night... :)

The 'This or That' Game

MrDave's picture

That would be baked Beans...Split Pea soup is green peas cooked like bean suop. Delish!

Sid wrote:

Life is full of choices isn't it, Sid?

I recommend the empty useless life becasue it'll be longer (or just feel like it)

A simple choice...
Health
or
Hapiness

The 'This or That' Game

Sid's picture

Happiness. I tried health for most of my life. It's not all it's cut out to be. But happiness I'd still like to know.

Stephen Spielberg

or

Kevin Smith?

The 'This or That' Game

MrDave's picture

Mr Spielburg is still the reigning champion. Smith is innovative, uses a contemporary vocabulary and isn't above self-parody. But while that certainly makes worthy of watching it does not mean that his body of work is what I would call "classic".

Jaws, ET, Close Encounters, Raiders of the Lost Arc, Poltergeist, Empire of the Sun, Always, The Color Purple, Schindler's List, Jurrasic Park, Amistad, Saving Private Ryan, Minrity Report, The Terminal

compared to

Clerks, Mallrats, Dogma, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, and Jersey Girl

come on...give me a tough one.

Jay

or

Silent Bob

The 'This or That' Game

Hola-Meg-a-Cola's picture

Silent Bob all the way. Jay is annoying after awhile.

Cowboy Bebop (click here)

or

Samurai Champloo (click here)

The 'This or That' Game

Kieran's picture

Cowboy Bebop...nothing beats a badass cowboy, plus he looks like he's got a nasty kick.

Clint's "The Man With No Name"

or

The Magnificent Seven
?

The 'This or That' Game

MrDave's picture

Clint's performance as the "man with no name" inspired a whole new generation of cowboy icons. It redefined the hero that had been defined by Roy Rogers and John Wayne. Although M7 did redefine the way those stories were told, it didn't have as long-lasting an impact as Eastwood's character did.

Katsuhiro Otomo (the Writer/Director of Akira and Ghost in the Shell)

or

Akira Kurosawa (Writer/Director of the Seven Samauri, Yojimbo, and Dan)

The 'This or That' Game

Sid's picture

Katsuhiro Otomo!

"Tetsuo! Tetsuo!" Classic. :D

Okay, Dave. You've poo-pooed a couple of my This or Thats. You asked for a tough one. Here it is. (Anyone can answer, of course, but Dave must answer for himself.)

Give up your faith

or

Disembowel Heather with each toothpick in a box of toothbpicks?

The 'This or That' Game

MrDave's picture

At it's root it is Give up my love or give up God. But more than that it is willfully giving up one and hurting that one at the same time.

In that case I'd give up God.

I don't fear for my afterlife, if it is a heavenly place or a hellful place either way the decision as to where I'd go is beyond my being able to affect. It will either be one or the other. as decided on some arbitrary measure that I can only guess at the scale. So That decision is out of my hands. If it is oblivion, then it doesn't matter, the point is moot.

If I am sent to hell for my abandoning God then, again, I will have the Love of my life to sustain me, knowing that I did no harm to her and in fact may have spared her my own fate by loving her. Becasue I cannot imagine a worse hell than not having Heather by my side.

Of course I would never do either if I didn't have to...but if there was no other way,. I'd promptly give up God, hope he would understand and then immediately not care whether he did or not.

Fritos

or
Hint-o' lime Tostitos

The 'This or That' Game

James_Connor's picture

this has noting to do with the game but dave nice anser someones gonan be bumpin hips the nite

The 'This or That' Game

Sid's picture

How quickly we abandon our faith when it comes to hip-bumpin'! j/k.

The 'This or That' Game

Allyana's picture

Fritos, I guess, i dont know what they are, but they sound tastier than tostitos (at least if those are like toast, since i dont like toast)

red meat

or

white meat

or

no meat at all?

Alessa wrote:

Fritos are wonderful, Ally.

Anyway, I choose white meat. Like Sid.

Online scrabble.

And I'm asking: why? I must know, Ricardo.

The Truman Show

or

Dumb and Dumber

(This is a test. You must choose correctly, or I'll cast lighting into your soul.)

The 'This or That' Game

Firefly's picture

Uhm...okay...I'm a little frightened of the lightning thing, but...

The Truman Show

(Sorry if this is wrong, but I really, really hated Dumb and Dumber.)

Work early mornings or late evenings?

The 'This or That' Game

MrDave's picture

Oh the Truman Show, without a doubt. We all have to give up the idea of a creator when faced with the idea we've been lied to and led to beleive something that is neither true, nor helpful.

The life may be good, and there are folks who may thrive in that sort of a closed world, but there is so much more to the world than what you are told. The Truman Show - as an alegory - opens your eyes if you view it in the right way. D&D just makes ya laugh.

hmm....

Spiderman I

or

Spiderman II

The 'This or That' Game

Sid's picture

Tough one! I'll say. . . Spiderman I. But it's a close call.

(Good for you two, Kristen and Dave. You answered right. The Truman Show. Jim Carrey is wonderful when he's not being Jim Carrey. Did you guys see Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind? I'm a Charley Kaufman fan.)

Okay:

Star Trek: Enterprise (yawn)

or

Star Trek: Voyager (Neelix--ug. Parris and Belana--ug)

The 'This or That' Game

MrDave's picture

Sid wrote:

So are we, Sid. Adaptatin is a powerful film in it's own right as is Being John Malkovitch. So we adore Kaufman too.

To answer Kris's question: Late eveings without a doubt. I loathe getting up early.

I am re-posting Sid's question..

Star Trek: Enterprise (yawn)

or

Star Trek: Voyager (Neelix--ug. Parris and Belana--ug)

The 'This or That' Game

Heather's picture

Deep Space Nine - oh, damn, that wasn't one of the choices... Um...

I'd have to go with Voyager. There were parts of it that were actually all right, and I thought Robert Picardo did a fabulous job as the EMH. I was able to watch all of Voyager, too - whereas I only got through a season and a half of Enterprise.

The 'This or That' Game

Heather's picture

Sex first thing in the morning, or sex last thing at night?

The 'This or That' Game

Meredith Bell's picture

Can't I have both, or would that just be greedy? lol, okay, well last thing at night is good because you have more time but then quite often you just end up falling asleep because it's the end of the day and you're knackered so, I'd go for sex in the morning, because generally I have more energy then and it's a great start to any day

Um, so in a similar thread -

Quality?

or

Quantity?

The 'This or That' Game

Logan's picture

Quantity, cause quality is never an issue i had problems with ;) A-thank you

On a similar thread hehe...

Too big or too small?

The 'This or That' Game

Heather's picture

Too big is nothing but painful, and so long as they have jaw muscles with good endurance, too small isn't really an issue. 8)

Sex with only your non-preferred gender?

or

No sex at all?

The 'This or That' Game

Logan's picture

My right hand is better than anything the XX Chromosone can do :P (sorry girls)....so the answer is NO sex at all.

A partner who is a nympho (ala wanting to do it all the time, and in like bad places)

or

A prude

The 'This or That' Game

Sid's picture

Tough one, Shaun.

I'd choose the prude. Eventually, no matter who you are, you're going to bore the nympho. She'll leave you. Or cheat on you.

But I'd get to leave the prude!

===========

Dirk Benedict

or

Katie Sakhoff

The 'This or That' Game

Allyana's picture

I'll make a guess and consider you are proposing the two actors who've portrayed Starbuck. Well, if my guess is right, and until i get my Battlestelar Galactica Dvds  I'd stick to Dirk Benedict, since i used to be soooo in love with him in my teens. I may change my mind, although teen loves die hard, just ask me again after April 1st, Sid. :D

Frodo

or

Sam?

The 'This or That' Game

Kieran's picture

heh, where's Eomer???

ok, i'll pick Sam...guy risked everything and even gave frodo his last piece of food cuz he "made a promise...don't you leave him Samwise Gamgee". Plus, the guy was a mean cook!

btw, i'd definitely take the nympho...prudes never wanna do it anywhere :(

70's/80's Aerosmith

or

Guns 'N Roses???

The 'This or That' Game

Allyana's picture

This has gone long enough...

Guns 'N Roses.

2004

or

2005 so far?

The 'This or That' Game

TwistedStranger's picture

2004. I was happy, foolish, and I got poleaxed by everything that happened after it.

David Lynch

OR

David Cronenberg?

The 'This or That' Game

MrDave's picture

The 'This or That' Game

Kaarin's picture

I'm with salon. Really... the mysogyny in that policy is nothing short of amazing. What makes it even worse is that these are federal guidelines. But then, I wouldn't expect any less out of the way our society has been going. Next thing you know, they'll want you to offer unsolicited advice on the best way to be pregnant and barefoot in the kitchen. Bastards. :x :x :x

Computer Games or Console Games?

The 'This or That' Game

TwistedStranger's picture

Computer. You can't get the original Fallout games for a console, nor can you get Tex Murphy or Arcanum, or The Residents' Bad Day on the Midway. You also don't get the same range of customizability on a console.

As a single film, not taking into account the sequels:

The Crow

or

Batman
?
