PARTY!!!
Come one, come all, to The Bibliophile for a gathering of friends. There will be good food, great drinks, and (hopefully) stimulating conversation. If you are interested in attending, please leave a message here, and Daye will get back to you with the particulars, posthaste.

Party at Bibliophile
Tash would certainly love to attend a get-together at Bibliophile. She promises faithfully not to shoot at anyone there this time. :)
Party at Bibliophile
Since Tash is going of course I will go. I have some new friends I'd like you to meet, so put me in for two guests as well (and possibly more if they decide to bring dates)
Party at Bibliophile
Kate would be delighted to attend the party at Bibliophile (so long as she and Galen can make it out of the bedroom) she would love the chance to catch up with all her friends - old and new...
Just remember not to leave any unattended storerooms ;)
Party at Bibliophile
I'm up for a party anytime; but of course, the newbie, doesn't quite understand the particulars. Let me know and I'll try to be there.
party? hmmmmmm...
jade would definitely want to be there but it'll all depend on when the part is... she and sorrow won't be back in l.a till the 2nd week of august, from the 10th onwards i think. keep me posted on the "when" and i'll let u know if jade's gonna be attending.
don't think sorrow will dare go unless he manages to figure the ritual out and get the vamp in him exorcised... u'll have to check with robin on the status of that one. :)
party? hmmmmmm...
about parasol attending... is that possible? i mean... if this is a gathering for the white hats (as dave so charmingly called us), then won't a vampire be a little out of place? heh... sorrow and jade have a hard enough time as it is, being the weird halflings they are... :?
Party at Bibliophile
OK. See. Wasn't quite sure what was up. Of course, Parasol will not be able to attend. New to LA, vampire, etc. Everyone online to write for the party, right?
So much to know...
Party at Bibliophile
Well, there is still a chance Parasol could attend the party... it'll just mean we get to fight among the finger food. :)
to answer some questions
At this point, my plan is to have some party crashers. I am thinking Jem and the Black Veins will be making an appearance, so the more the merrier. Also, maybe I'm a bit confused, but is Parasol a villain? I didn't get that impression, although she's a vamp. I know it's not quite so clear cut with her, but I'd hate for the "white hats" to start indiscriminately beating on other characters. I do see that dealing with a vamp would be hard for some of us, ie. Reah, Tash, etc. Still, I wonder what kind of plans Sherlynn has at this point.
Also, as for when we are going to do this, I am open to suggestions. It would be good to have Jade back and I am sure it will take a while for Daye to plan it (she likes to be thorough). So, suggestions on when it might work out for everyone are welcome. Thanks.
party? hmmmmmm...
oooo... the black veins... jade's got a bone to pick with them... *growls* xy's still far from ready for business...
do we get to smack em around a little? not dust them all, but to have a nice smackaroo with em... it'd be good if we made it out such that jem and chris have been recruiting so that they turn up with a big gang of nasties... *beams*
Party at Bibliophile
OOHOhooo! Reah would love to attend a reunion party :D uuuunfortunatly the reunion part would be a bit of a problem considering she doesn't know anyone other than Sam...aaand Sam's also new.... I'm sure i can work out some acceptional reason as to how she would end up going :)
this is a little bit down the line though isn't it? hopefully by this time she will have come to know at least one other person other than Sam :P
Party at Bibliophile
Might be interesting for Parasol to "happen" upon a party. I'm sure the more I write about her, the circumstances happening and people around her will dictate what her response might be.
Don't be confused -- I believe she's one of those conflicted vamps --not as gooey and long suffering as Angel (please); more of a pragmatic sort like Spike. These comparisons are, of course, unfair -- I want her to be something unique. She's not all evil, although her ability for evil is as profound as any demon (and that will be really fun to write), and she's not all good, though the love of God left over in the flesh of the body compels her to tremendous acts of compassion (also fun to write). She's neither a white hat, nor a black hat. She's her own milliner and will wear the hat most appropriate for the occasion.
Still confused? Please don't be. I'm very clear that she's a vampire and not one searching for her soul; just one who most of the time flourishes under her predicament.
Whew!! To sum up...I'd love her to show up and be all on the fence...in a great outfit and par-tay. Or, if not, then not. I'm easy. Just want to write.
Party at Bibliophile
Parasol...could be a problem, but not Chinaka who as an artist in town might have some connection however peripheral to a PC.
Black Jem and Co. are NPCs now and if you have the party in the evening then they could be around after dark. If you hold it in the afternoon then the worst they could do is make the potato salad go off by dusting on it.
Reah, Sam is bing invited, and to be honest you are his only "friend" in LA so far (except Hesch who won't leave his cab...and Kimmie who won't remember, and well you get the idea) I am going to encourage our two employees to attend becasue I want to introduce them around.
some food for thought
Ok, so here's what I'm thinking. First off, the party will be "after dark" (hehe). So, Jem and crew will be full on gate crashing. Also, they will have a replenished stock of lackeys for us to dust. Jem and Chris will for sure get away (with the item they are seeking). As for Parasol, well, one of two things, either Drew could know Chinaka (preferable to me, as they could potentially even be friends) or one or more of us might make either her or Parasol's acquaintance before the party. Either way, I would love to work it out so Parasol could make an appearance. We will all have to think about it. Anyone with a good idea, please let us all in on it.
As for Sam, Dave already covered it, so if no one else knows Reah by then, he can bring her.
Ok, that's the update for now. I want to wait at least til Sid gets back to decide when we are going to do this. For me, I have more spare time on the weekends, especially with my kids going back to school next week. Anyway, we can all start thinking about when this can take place. Thanks.
Party at Bibliophile
Ooohhh goody goody. Parasol might be able to come.
Party at Bibliophile
I'm sure Jess would like to go. If Daye invited her then it could be a good way for her to get to see some old faces again and meet the rest of the gang (if she doesn't meet them before then). It all depends on the time of the colab though.
Party Date
Ok, everyone seems quite interested in this party of days. I would like to plan it. So, maybe we could settle on a date for the huge collab that would be necessary. Any suggestions?
P.S. Weekends are better for me than weekdays, as I can plan to have someone else watch the kids.
Party at Bibliophile
Well as usual I have problems with doing collabs on weekends, well the saturday half anyway. I wouldn't be able to do anything Friday night or Saturday Morning/afternoon (since that's when i work)
I have THIS saturday off, if we are super efficient and get a time organised so quick (which i doubt) otherwise, it's as above - so if it HAS to be on a weekend, saturday night or anytime sunday would be better for me, otherwise I just won't be able to make it.
I am of course refering to GMT... :D
Party at Bibliophile
Okay, here's what it looks like for me. Back at work, on pre-semester schedule. So, Sunday is out, as well as staying up late Sun-Wed. Off Friday and Saturday.
Not this weekend, but the one after that, is the last one before the new semester starts (first day of classes is Sep 3). At that point, available all day Saturday and Sunday, and Friday evening. Also could be available other evenings, but would like to avoid *massive* collabs on those days if possible.
Party at Bibliophile
I think that a Saturday evening for Lou would be real good for me too. Not this week or next, though, as I have birthday parties to attend and throw.
Party at Bibliophile
Saturdays are good. I'll put my collab shoes on.
Help!!!
i really would like to do this, but time seems to be an issue. So, here's a wild idea I just had. How about if the people with compatible schedules get together and we e-mail everyone else what we come up with. Then you can all fill in where you see fit, and we can get this party started?
Or, we could try each writing some of the party, alone or in cooperation with someone or someones and then pass it around and see what we come up with. Anything we can figure out would be great. Thanks.
Party at Bibliophile
I am in your hands Kris. Whatever you set up, I'm ready to take part in.
(I met your sister De De by they way. A very pleasant girl who didn't tell me to fuck myself when I said hello to "Kristen" on MSN. She was much nicer than my mother was when, for instance, I came out of the womb. My mother, upon meeting an unexpected face, simply said, "Huh? I thought I was coming in for a routine checkup. Kill it." You sister was much more accomodating. Heh.)
Party at Bibliophile
My schedule is pretty fluid, as usual. Weekends are probably best for most people, I'd imagine. But I can handle most mid-week days as well. Our time constraints also depend on which game day you'd like the party. If you want a Saturday party, for instance, we're almost up to Friday so there's a little time left to organise the collab.
BTW Kris, I also met your sister DeDe, and Sid is right - she was very friendly. :)
Party at Bibliophile
I think the party should be on Saturday if possible. Everyone should assume your character gets an invite if Daye knows you. The invitation indicates your friends will be welcome too. Something along the lines of the more, the merrier. Can we shoot for like next Sunday or something?
That or Monday or Tuesday of next week in the evening for me. The thing is on those days, it's going to be a time constraint. My computer is right outside my sister's room, and although she's very sweet, I don't think she wants me keeping her, her husband, and the baby up all night typing away.
So, what do you all think?
We will have to go forward with the people that can make it and figure it out from there.
Party at Bibliophile
Next Saturday (real time) works for me. I see no problem with that in my schedule.
Party at Bibliophile
Next Saturday works for me providing it is after 6:30pm GMT, (that is right I am GMT +1 for daylight savings time) any earlier and I will be at work - Sunday would really be better, although I figure that would mess it up for some people... sorry
Some people have a living to make doncha know! :P :D hee hee
Potential party time
I was thinking Sunday, actually. I have a very important birthday party to throw for my oh-so-popular baby sister. She turns 25 on Tuesday, doncha know. So, I was hoping to do something like this...
Vegas. 9 am 9/1/02
Maryland 12 pm 9/1/02
England 5 pm 9/1/02
Australia 3 am 9/2/02
Singapore 1 am 9/2/02
California 9 am 9/1/02
I realize this may not work for some. If you can make it, great. If not, we will probably send the post around e-mail a bit to get it ironed out. How does this sound to everyone?
As for game time, the party would occur the following Saturday from where we now are in time, or in the case of sticklers for numbers, I mean to say Saturday August 20, 2005. Ok?
Party at Bibliophile
At this stage I'm free both Saturday and Sunday next weekend, so that's fine for me, too.
can't...
kris - that means late sunday night (or early monday morning) for me so i can't make it, as i've got work at 9am...
if u guys are thinking of switching the time still, then saturday would be preferable for me. that is, anything between gmt 3am and gmt 8pm on the 1st of september is fine.
if that's really impossible, then i guess i'll settle on adding my bits in when u guys email it around. :)
Party at Bibliophile
Wow. When I posted my last message in this forum it was about the same time that Kris posted that list of times, so I hadn't seen them.
3am?? The next day is Monday.... so not likely.
Hmm, actually, 9am in Nevada is 2am in Aust., but that's still kinda late.
If it could come back even 2 or 3 hours that would be a little better, and hopefully not too early for you, Kris.
If it starts at 11pm then I might stand a chance of getting a couple of hours' sleep before Monday morning. Is 6am too revolting for a wake up time for you, Kris? Otherwise, I'm afraid I might be e-mail only.
Also, bringing it back to 11pm for me means it's 9pm for April, so we might be able to convince her to join in for a while too.
Party at Bibliophile
hey can manthy come? it would be a great opportunity to meet some peeps. plus if jems turning up she can say howdy. the only q for me is what to do with maria? She wouldn't leave her back with Yasha again, and Daye was her only babysitter. If any one can help, please reply or pm me or talk to me or summing.. ok i'm done now.....
Party at Bibliophile
Yes, Mantheana should come. Hmmm, not sure who can watch Maria though. Can't think of anyone. Make someone up. Call one of those babysitting services or something?
Party at Bibliophile
Didn't Manthy leave her in the care of Sascha? Did that turn out so badly that she wouldn't try it again?
Party at Bibliophile
Can't Sam babysit the kid? Sure, Victor sticks them in a room together with a coloring book. . .one crayone. . .hilarity will follow.
Believe it or not, I'm being serious. I think he could learn a lot from a wee baern.
Sam needs to socialize
Seriously, I would like Sam to come to the party. The issue is everyone Mantheana knows is going to be at this shindig. Hmmm, what to do, what to do?
Party at Bibliophile
Well, I can understand why you wouldn't trust the kid to Sam's care.
But Mantheana doesn't really know him. I'm having a difficult time seeing that Sam would come to this party as a socialite. Perhaps as a hired grunt.
It's possible he might not make it, if I can't justify the situation. But that's okay. I'm sure he'll get to clean up after it. (Yech)
Party at Bibliophile
Derek would like to attend the party, though I am not sure...
Party at Bibliophile
I've got a teenage NPC coming into the game sometime (have yet to decide when) but I'm sure she wouldn't mind babysitting Maria if she's in the game by then.
Party at Bibliophile
Andrew - unless Derek meets one of the other PC's between now and next Saturday I don't see any reason for Derek to be at the party. However there will be something of a ruckass - maybe a small investigation afterwards? I suppose it depends upon if anyone reports it - maybe some local passersby??
I don't know it's just an idea. Since no one in-game has met Derek it seems unlikely that he'd be invited to Daye's party. Sorry.
Party at Bibliophile
Although it's looking unfortunate for Sam as far as making it to the party, I am still wondering where the party will be held--at least for the benefit of everyone who will be involved. I scanned the posts, and I'm wondering if by "after dark" you meant it will be at After Dark. Seems unlikely to me, but I think it should be addressed. Hell, what do I know?
I believe it would be helpful, Kristen, if you gave everyone a layout of the place before they arrived. Just so the players can visualize what the place looks like, how many rooms there are, the decorations being used, etc. Such detail will keep everyone in the same realm of creativity.
I know this seems picky, but this is a BIG EVENT for LABN. It deserves a little prep work. . .assuming you haven't done it already.
I have this haunting feeling that some of these questions have been answered already. I'm not known for my memory retention. So forgive me if I'm just being goofy. Otherwise, please consider this suggestion with all the love that I've put into it. You've undertaken a worthy, respectable responsiblity.
I nod and give you a humble bow.
Party at Bibliophile
The party will be held at The Bibliophile - 'after dark' - meaning at night, not during the day. It would be very farcical to hold a party for vampire and demon hunters at a well known vampire hang out - there is a description of the layout of Bibliophile in the 'Places' section of the homepage and I'm sure Kris will acquaint us with the various decorations as the time draws closer. :D
Party at Bibliophile
Thanks, Louisa. Now I have something to go on.
By the way, sorry I missed the Bibliophile part. But that's just me. The memory of an elephant on qualudes.
And yes, the After Dark party would have been a disaster. I wasn't keen on it. Heh.
Party at Bibliophile
Louis just reminded me of the post where Daye was in Biblophile contemplating the party. Now I have no questions at all. I call Take-Backs!
Party at Bibliophile
:( Oh well...
Final plans for collab
Ok, here we go...
The collab will be this Sunday, September 1
Pacific Standard Time is 6 am...
GMT is 1pm
England is 2pm
In Maryland that's 9 am.
In Australia, that's 11pm
In Signapore, that's 9 pm, I think.
Ok, see you all there.
Party at Bibliophile
hey hey, thanx for eveyones response on the babysitting frony. I havent been able to post for a couple of days coz i was round at alices locking her in a shoo box. anyhoo, my responses:
sid: sam would probs be a great babysitter, so its a real shame that he actually wants to have a good time that night (just who does he think he is?) So thanks for the offer. Looks like hilarious results will have to be postponed
Alice: if your gonna bring in Ellie do it soon, coz if the party is on sun and today is sat, then you can either bring her in today, or before two to moz.
Parasol: yes she left Maria in the care of Yasha, and it did go awfully wrong, hence the need for an actual baby sitter.
all else failing, Manthy will either a) have to actually get a proper babysitter or b) find some cupboard in bibliophile to lock maria up in for the evening.
as I said, thanks for the responce, all that is left now is a case of OMG! what is Manthy gonna wear?
n e hoo, toodles!
Bibliophile Party Post
The raw data has all been edited... I sent the file to Dave who will, at some stage, be making it available online as a downloadable file (it's kinda large for e-mail).
I've arranged the lines into blocks - combining dialogue and action for a character or a group of characters, hopefully in a more-or-less sensible manner. I've also changed the style to our normal past-tense prose style, but in a basic way. I've merely added 'Kate said' and 'Victor replied' kind of stuff. So please embellish as you see fit for your character.
In addition, the original raw data is included in the file for reference as to what was actually said and in what order. The edited stuff fills 25 pages, so the raw data starts at p.26 on Word.
So far as I know at this stage, the idea is that the initial greeting stuff will be posted as a separate post, as will the fight - these scenes both involved everyone all at once (more or less).
The party dialogue in the middle of the post will be available to everyone to build their own solo or mini-collab posts around. I envisage we'll end up with several different posts out of this session.
It will all take time, but never fear - the party isn't until Saturday 20th Aug, and right now we're hovering around Sunday 14th August. So there are six game days to go. At the rate we've been going, that should take us another fortnight to cover.
Enjoy!
Party at Bibliophile
okay, here is a "lightly edited" transcript of the party at Bibliophile. The game date is Aug 20th at around 6pm.
to Download this RIGHT CLICK the link below and choose "Save Target As..." from the menu otherwise your browser may try to open this on its own.

then you should write a post from your POV and copy and paste the relevant sections (editing them to fit your style) for the events leading up to and after the party.
if you have a major change to make in the action, then email it to Heather and she will give me a revised version nd it will get uploaded (i'll change the last updated date)
any questions? post 'em here.
Party at Bibliophile
Its funny. When we were doing the party post I felt that some of my actions were becasue of one thing, and now I see that they were something else entirely.
I remarked that Heather was playing Tash kind of "flat" and that her reaction to the proposal was reserved. I see now it was becasue of our fight on Monday.
I see Victor ignoring his date for most of the party. Finding it hard to get back together, maybe?
Same events, different perspective. I think I might sit back and wait to go back to the party events when I have more background to see.
How odd that our characters knew what was going to happen and I had no clue. Who is in charge here?
