Character Name: Duke Corin Archell
Race: Human
Gender: Male

Light Side/Dark Side Ratio: 9/8

Description: At 5 ft 9.5 in Corin is not overly tall but has a piercing gaze. Like many of the Archell family he has a somewhat perpetual drawn expression. Before the Orsiri Coup he wore a simple military uniform with little decoration, but has recently shed this in favour of more casual and discrete attire with a slight military flair. His dark hair is cut just over military standard.

Homeworld: Vorgrell

History: Corin was born into noble House Archell as the one and only child in his family. At the time of his birth, House Archell was just beginning a decline in both power and influence. Having lost the Office of the Sheriff on the Cooperative that Archell had traditionally held, a new candidate was desperately needed to restore their honour and pride. As befitting a noble’s status, Corin was raised in security, receiving the best treatment and education available. From birth he was groomed to succeed to the Office of the Sheriff and as Archell was well known for breeding high-quality officers and soldiers it was no surprise then that at 18 he enlisted in the armed forces. After graduating with flying colours from the Archell Military Officer Academy, Corin began his service in the regular armed forces, but after only a year he was selected for entry to Off-World Special Operations. Passing the entry requirements Corin spent the remainder of his seven years service involved in covert operations both on Vorgell and on others, on occasion in service to the Republic. He took to the tasks required of him with relish and both he and his unit were noted with distinction on many occasions – though frequently the reasons for their citations were deemed too sensitive to be published publicly.

With the seven years up, Corin was forced to leave the military and return to the world of politics, having attained the rank of Major. After the last seven years spent in the military, Corin was not looking forward to it at all. Had he had a choice, he would have preferred to remain in the armed forces. But the choice was not his to make. Firstly, he had the family political inhereitence to continue. As a noble governing House, it was Archell’s duty to be actively involved in planetary politics. Although Corin had been trained from birth in the ways of diplomacy, he much preferred military service. Secondly, he needed to restore tradition. And thirdly, the only son of House Archell involved in covert operations away from the admiring public was both a political embarrassment and a potential disaster. If Corin were to be killed, the bloodline would end and Archell would fall into ruin. It had happened before, and nobody wanted a repeat of House Bertrayn, who’s only son had been killed in a Shipwreck riot some years earlier. After the current family representative completes his current term he will be unable to serve again, and the House Lady has already served her full. Bertrayn will be forced to search the family tree for another representative, which may lead to adoption from other families. If this becomes the case, Bertrayn will suffer a slow death and the potential same fate for House Archell has kept both the Lord and Lady awake for many nights.

So it was with great reluctance but an overwhelming sense of duty that Corin resigned his commission and returned to the family palace to begin his formal political career. Corin became a military advisor in the Office of the Sheriff, with an eye for the office itself after the current holder completed his term. However, fortune struck House Archell as the current holder suffered a heart attack at night and died in his sleep only a few months into Corin’s career. At least, so some said. Others whispered that the old General, of a rival family to Archell, had been poisoned. Others pointed fingers at the ever ambitious Osiri or the dying Bertrayn. Corin was not particularly comforted by this first example of inter-house politics even as he accepted the role of Office of the Sheriff.

It was during this second career of his life that Corin was properly introduced to the Galactic Republic. After spending two months on Coruscant as a representative for his world attending a military conference, he came to fully appreciate the growing corruption in the Senate. Although no innocent to the world of politics, Corin was privately aghast at what he saw on Coruscant. He had believed inter-house squabbles were bitter, but in the Senate he was truly disillusioned with what he saw as recklessness, scorn and disrespect. Returning to his homeworld, he became a further embarrassment to House Archell when he began voicing, first privately and then aloud, his convictions for independence from the Republic. Right up until the outbreak of the Clone Wars he advocated joining the Separatist movement. But with the start of war, Corin silenced his convictions in favour of the war effort. When Palpatine began asserting his control over the Senate, Corin became a silent supporter of his direct policies and ambitious goals, but was concerned over some of his methods. When the Empire began to emerge, Corin became increasingly disillusioned with Palpatine, galactic governments and politics in general. He did not voice his dissent this time, though, for fear of drawing too much Imperial attention to Vorgell. Although the Empire had not fully manifested into the regime of terror it would become, Corin nonetheless harboured doubts and fears.

With galactic events concerning him, particularly the Clone Wars and Vorgrell’s military involvement in it, Corin was blind to Zara Orsiri’s scheming. When the Orsiri coup came it came as a shocking surprise to Corin. With Imperial officials arresting each of the noble houses, Corin escaped off world. Smuggling himself aboard a private vessel and into fleeing into exile, Corin was forced to abandon his friend Zayen of House Orsiri to the Imperials.

Corin escaped his Vorgrell with barely the clothes on his back and the blaster in his hand. His immediate family was probably being hauled off to the Kessel Spice Mines to be worked until their death. He had no idea what had happened to Zayen. He may be dead already. Anger flooded Corin’s body as he thought of the conspirator – Zara Orsiri. She had sold out her family, the noble Houses, the entire planet. He would live to see her suffer.

As Corin stepped off the transport at the next system over, he realised there was a silver lining to the dark cloud. He still possessed the datachip that would allow him to access his family’s private funds via the HoloNet. With his family imprisoned and him now exiled, it was doing no good sitting in an account where it would probably waste away. Within minutes, Corin was holding a good portion of his family’s collected wealth in his hands. Soon after, he set out on the path that would lead him to kill Zara Orsiri.

After purchasing a collection of weapons and equipment, and with his military background behind him, it was not long before Corin was able to find work in the shady underworld – first as a hired-killer, then a professional assassin. To Corin this was a logical progression. He had no doubt Zara would surround herself with bodyguards. To get close enough to kill her he would have to be good, and to be that good he needed experience. As his contacts steadily developed, so did his prestige for getting the job done no matter the cost and his skills developed. Hiding his emotions behind a cold face through both his political and military experience, Corin let nothing cloud his judgement. He soon became one of the most sought out assassins in the sector.

It was at that point that Corin decided the time had come. He was ready. It was time for Zara Orsiri to die.

Items:
Merr-Sonn Model J1 “Happy Surprise” Palm Blaster

Produced by Merr-Sonn Munitions, the J1 is a holdout blaster known to many as the Happy Surprise. The weapon's name in Rodian is Kheth-saw, and it is named for the weapon's unusual configuration, which makes it incredibly easy to hide. Unlike most blaster weapons which have a hand grip and a trigger, the J1 fits entirely within the palm of the hand. The barrel sticks out from between the second and third fingers, making it easy to carry in a clenched hand without arousing suspicion. The trigger is mounted at the top of the weapon, and is depressed with the thumb. Corin keeps a version of the J1 in a special pocket in his sleeve, so that with a flick of his wrist the weapon can be deposited into the palm of his hand. He picked up this weapon after prising it from the dead cold fingers of a pirate and smuggler, who had no sooner deposited the weapon into his own hand and aimed it at Corin’s back that he had spun, drawn his own weapon, and shot him in the left eye.

Merr-Sonn Model 434 "DeathHammer" with Merr-Sonn Flash Suppresser
A model of Merr-Sonn blaster pistol, the 434 earned its nickname among the bounty hunters who preferred its solid construction and incredible stopping power. The 434 is plated with durasteel, making it heavy to carry but capable of sustaining heavy fire. Corin bought this weapon after he settled upon the decision to get his revenge by whatever means necessary. He tries to keep one shot in it at all times – for one special person. The Flash Suppresser attachment reduces both noise and light when the weapon is fired, making it more suited for assassination roles.

Merr-Sonn “Power” 5 Heavy Blaster Pistol.
Merr-Sonn's compact, heavy blaster pistol, it is a smaller weapon than the Flash 5 pistol, allowing for easier concealment. The Power 5 is standard-issue for the Vorgrell military.

Prax Arms Protector PRP-502 Hold-Out Shooter
A dart weapon that can be broken down into four different parts. Corin ‘acquired’ one of these prior to a contract that required him to smuggle a weapon into a restricted area.

Datadagger
This unusual weapon, developed on the planet Chandrila, was used in many assassination attempts throughout the planet's history. At first glance, the datadagger appears to be a piece of ivory artwork, inlaid with gold and silver filigree. Upon further examination, however, datadaggers resemble large code cylinders which can interface with computers, datapads, and door locks. Hidden inside the ivory hilt of the weapon is a thin blade that is nearly undetectable. Often datadaggers were priceless family heirlooms, passed down from generation to generation. Corin’s datadagger was handed down as such an heirloom, and is one of the last possessions from House Archell he retains.

Ayelixe/Krongbing Textiles Shadowsuit
A shadowsuit is a flat black body suit that covers everything but the wearer’s eyes. It is woven from shadowsilk, a soft material that absorbs both light and sound, with additional sound-dampening pads on the hands and feet. All the stealth functions of the suit are passive; it uses no electronics that might be detected by sensors.

Garrote, vibrodagger, Dalabar Micro-Electronics SDS-632 Surveillance Detector, Neuro-Saav TeleSonic Audio Pickup.

Abilites:: At the Archell Military Acadamey, Corin learnt to become proficient in the following skills:
Armed Hand-to-Hand Combat
Demolition
Exfiltration
Espionage
Infiltration
Piloting (though only basic. He is no starfighter ace by any means.)
Ranged Weaponry: this is Corin’s main skill and he is an excellent shot with a pistol, his preferred weapon of choice.
Sabotage
Stealth
Surveillance
Tactical Planning (an emphasis on small scale operations)
Unarmed Hand-to-Hand Combat.
With his recent career change to assassination, Corin has further perfected a number of these skills and, of course, has become a skilled assassin. Of course, as a noble, Corin also still remembers the rules of social etiquette.

Force Sensitive: No.
