This is an idea that has been on the table since Once More With Feeling hit our screens. Recently Shaun and I have discussed the possibility of actually following that through this midseason.
So far there has only been some loose discussion around the idea. There are several ways we could do this, either making up your own songs (which would be difficult lets face it unless you have your own recording studio at hand) Or choosing existing songs and re-writing the lyrics for your character - which seems a bit more realistic.
Anyway, a few people have shown interest in this idea, and I think that if we stick to something along the lines of OMWF that is, for the songs to reveal a secret or a truth or something else that has been plaguing a character for a while and hasn't come to light yet, then it we could also make it plot relevant (although the songs could just be for pure comedy value too).
At this stage it's just a matter of finding out who is interested in doing this and when it would be conveinent to take place, such as the middle of midseason or closer to the start/end. And also, if anyone has any different ideas for how to bring such a phenomenon about (other than reprising Sweet for his role again).

Well naturally I'd be for it, and once had an idea for how to bring Sweet around.
Namely, it really *is* something Alaric would do. He'd consider it 'fun' and a way to test the local demons. After all, if they can't resist Sweet's power, it's their own fault for not being strong enough.
As for timing, I'm tempted to say hold it off another midseason. But if not, then either at the start or the stop is the best time for me. Middle fo the midseason won't exactly work, unless Sweet's power suddenly grows to extend halfway around the planet. :)

I'm interested, but I feel badly prepared for it, my knowledge of your music is awful. As Adam well knows, I just listen to the music and understand 'part' of the lyrics :oops: , but not nearly enough to do something like this musical. So unless I get some help in that department, I don’t think I could make it. :(

I already know what I want to do for a musical episode. And timing isn't really a big problem, but middle of the season would be preferred to me.
It was explained to me that Sweet isn't here for any of the characters directly but that we are all being affected indirectly and that it would all be over in a single day. His little appearance and exit are handled either in a seperate posts or offstage.
Adam, why couldn't his effect work halfway around the world if you were on a phonecall to someone in LA...or maybe your connection to LA makes you affected in some strange way. I see it as a universal effect.
I'd be glad to help you Ally. But alternatively, if I were you, I'd do it all in your native style. Alessa can sing a song in Spanish with Spanish lyrics since that is where she is from.
I am prepared to write an entire episode of music with two solos, a duet and a final solo for my character. I can't wait!
I could see the musical happening exclusive of other major events that are already planned. If it cooincides it would seem too contrived.
But I DO want to emphasize keeping this pure for the characters and making it painful to have them reveal all of these things to themselves and each other. If we are going to do this, I want to see it done right.

For my preferences, I'd plump more for somewhere around the earlyish part of the season - but not too early. Some time after the wedding would be my preference, though I don't know how Kris feels about that.
If Nikolai has already headed off I don't see why he still wouldn't be affected. I got the impression with OMWF that the phenomenon wasn't restricted to LA, but was a world-wide thing. I dunno, maybe that was just me, but that was how it seemed at the time. And if we decide that it should be just a local event, Nikolai could still be affected - as Dave suggested - by some sort of connection to LA. Maybe he's writing a letter to someone in LA, or sending an e-mail... and it becomes a big musical number.
I'm also in favour of having Sweet - or whatever other mechanism we decide upon - not be directly related to any of the characters, but it's something that someone else has summoned and has to deal with. We simply cop the effects. :) It can be an unsolved mystery for the White Hats.

And i like the idea of Alessa singing in Spanish, although it has the additional work of having to translate the songs so you all understand them. However, as my singing plot will include Ellis, i'll still need help since he'll be singing in English.

i might also be able to do some recordings for people if they are able to roughly record the tune and send to me (with chords) i will get my band to re record em. vocals might be tricky if you wanna sing yourself ill need quite a good copy of you singinging them to mix with the music.

All right, a lot of us have ideas (some of us have even started writing) for the musical. The thing that remains is to pin down a date.
Kris and I have just nutted out a date that's good for both of us. It's Monday 16th July 2007.
I know Dave's musical isn't especially date-dependent, but I'm not so sure about the rest of you. So if you don't like the date we've chosen, NOW is the time to speak up and we'll see if we can jigger with it.
It really can't be any ealier than the 16th, due to things already going on, but it can be stretched out a trifle past it if need be. So, if the 16th July is no good for you, speak now or forever hold your peace. Otherwise, we'll just forge ahead on the assumption that the musical will begin then.

I've had a few queries online about when exactly the musical will be starting, and my response has been: "when everyone is up to it".
It looks like most people are closing in on the 16th now (except Ally, who just posted on 30th June - *cracks whip*). As soon as everyone's only got musical posts to make, Dave can start the ball rolling with the vignette he's written and then we can all post like crazy things.
Dave has suggested he begin posting this weekend - so give a yell in here if any of you still have a ton of pre-musical stuff to post and can't possibly make that. But bear in mind that the sooner we get it out of the way, the sooner we can continue on with the rest of mid-season.

Anyway, I dont think I'll be doing much in the musical. I havent been able to work on my songs, cant think of appropiate lyrics (bear in mind that when i listen to music in English i enjoy the music, the singer's voice and little more, most of the lyrics are completely lost to me unless i really pay attention to them, and i seldom do, to be honest), I cant even manage to rhyme when trying to adapt the ones I found... and dont tell me Alessa would sing in Spanish, even if she does, the rest of the world wont so i'm still in trouble. :D :? I didnt shout out because of that.
What do i do with the plot i just started? Can i go on or should i wait till the musical frenzy stops?

My suggestion, wait until it is over. The musical should really come and go quickly and then it'll go back to business as usual.
Even though you are back on the 5th. It might mean that things (for Oz particularly) will be disjointed but it will mean for everyone else the sense of continuity will be preserved.

Well, hmm, I suppose I should say I'm not going to be in the musical. I have reasons, but they're not as good as Ally's, mostly being a) I haven't prepared anything, b) I've really been too lazy to prepare anything (I could say I've been too busy, but I'd mostly be lying) and c) well, tbh a few monts ago I was really excited about doing a musical, but for some reason when the time came round all I could think of was a general...'meh'.
If you really feel you need some Kyle-influence, just imagine him getting drunk, or being in a fight and singing Green Day, Blink 182, Box Car Racer and the like. Y'know, something emo :P
Saying that, however, I HAVE been writing something and I do have a series of posts ready to go up that I'll post after the musical is over, I guess (and when me and Chris finish writing the last one :P)

A: Haven't got any songs.

I have a post that is not part of the musical, but it is with Drew and Chinaka. I've had a few barriers (boss unexpectedly going to trial, computer crash, Microsoft Suite loading problems) to finishing and getting a draft to Kristin. The time on the post is the day after the musical at 1:00ish a.m.
Please don't anyone blame Kris for its not being up yet. It's my fault. I hope it won't put anyone out that the post will not be up on the board until Sunday. I have no other option, but still want to write it -- my boss is doing pre-trial on Friday with trial to start on Monday -- and I'll finish all the pretrial dox by Thursday -- which means nothing to you guys, I'm sure.
If anyone is annoyed to distraction, let me know. I won't be able to do anything about it, but please feel free to yell at me (I'm looking at you, Kris and why I'm laying low because really, I'll cry if you yell at me).
