Race: Vampire
Sex: Male
Real Name: Nicholas (Yax Pac)
Nick Name: The High Priest
Birth Date & Location: Autumn Circa 90 BC – Itzmal, Mexico
Position: N/A
Group Affiliation: The Brotherhood
DESCRIPTION:
Nicholas has a mature, masculine beauty that is undeniable. There is something darkly angelic about him. Many victims have fallen prey to the light in his dark eyes. Nicholas is no powerhouse, but his body is well formed and there is nothing childlike in his 5’11” frame. When he was human, he towered above his contemporaries, and thus was said to walk with the gods. As a vampire, he uses his aura of power to lure his victims. Nicholas is an expert at entrancing humans.
Nicholas has dark, wavy hair which he wears neatly cropped. He is not as old as his brethren and therefore like Valerian suffers less from the “mark of the demon”. His brows have become pointed and his brow ridge slightly more pronounced, but he can still pass for completely human in the dim light. Nicholas prides himself on his ability to fool his prey.
Nicholas has dark, brooding eyes set in his reddish brown hued skin. His colouring, although pale, still suggests the Mesoamerican blood from which he originally stems. Nicholas prefers to dress in dark, sombre clothes. He often enjoys posing as a “man of the cloth” when dealing with humans. He takes pleasure in the irony of pretending a faith he does not embrace.
Nicholas denies himself the pleasures of the world. He does not indulge in lust for man or woman, but rather makes elaborate rituals of his victims, often offering them as “sacrifices” to Dathan. He only takes true pleasure in the praises and accolades of his “god.”
Personality Goes a Long Way ~
Where Krispin is spiritual, Nicholas is fanatical. He worships not evil, but the personification of the vampire itself, which for him is his sire, Dathan. Nicholas considers Dathan to actually be a dark god of destruction, and ultimately, Nicholas true goal is to enable Dathan to rule the world, so that he, Nicholas, may serve as his high priest.
Nicholas is austere. He eschews the luxuries of mortal life. He has devoted himself to the myth of the vampire. Nicholas shrouds himself in the mysteries of the vampires. He wears dark clothes, and sleeps in crypts. Nicholas prefers the legends perpetuated by man’s ignorance. He likes the idea of the “undead” creeping around cemeteries and shying away from religious icons. Of course, these things hold no real power over him. He just likes the true dawning horror on his victim’s faces when this becomes apparent.
Nicholas has a brilliant, devious mind. He has in the past been able to fine tune and enhance the evil plans of his brethren. Since Nicholas does not seek his own glory, this works to the benefit of all. He doesn’t need the credit for a good plan, although ultimately, he hopes the credit comes back to Dathan.
(Nicholas is played by Lou Diamond Phillips)
BACKGROUND:
Nicholas was in life a highly devoted religious man. He was born and bred to be an acolyte of the Mayan sun god, Kinichi Ahau. In Itzamal, there was no god of greater importance. Nicholas could have had the power himself to live like a god, but he never sought power for his own benefit. He always truly only wished for that which promoted and enforced the will of his god. Nicholas was the perfect acolyte and was made high priest at a very young age. He learned all the ritual magic and blood magic of his temple, and employed this knowledge to strengthen Kinichi Ahau.
In his 27th year of life, Nicholas faced a great trial. A neighbouring tribe had been threatening Itzamal for months. They had skirmishes in the jungle and were often harassed on the path. Although the warriors of Itzamal were able to defeat this foe, Nicholas was visited with a dream by his god. The dream spoke of destruction for his beloved city. Nicholas was concerned and went to the king, but his concerns were not heeded. The next time the forces of Itzamal faced their foes, they found a very different opponent. They were nearly decimated, only a few warriors survived to tell the tale.
The enemy tribe was now being led by a powerful god. He was unmatched in the battle field. The surviving warriors claimed this new leader was a god or a demon. They said the warrior king and his men flaunted the ways of the gods, that they drank the blood of fallen Itzamal warriors in the battlefield. They ignored the rules of blood sacrifice and desecrated the bodies of the slain.
Nicholas and the king and his advisors listened to these stories in horror. What could they do? Nicholas warned that this was the warning of his dream. This new leader would destroy Itzamal. Nicholas believed that only he and his magic could stand against this demon. With the support of his king, Nicholas led the warriors back into the jungle that day to fight their enemies. In the light of day, the warriors of Itzamal were stronger and better equipped than their enemies. Victory seemed assured. The battle raged, with Itzamal clearly winning, until the sun set. When the sun dropped below the horizon, the tide turned. Where the enemy had seemed weakened during the day, now reinforcements seemed to come out of nowhere. Suddenly the number of opposing forces on the field doubled. From the shadows, warriors sprang.
The new forces were strong and agile and merciless. Nicholas was shocked and horrified to see them tearing out the throats of his warriors. They apparently feasted on the very lifeblood of his tribesmen. Nicholas watched this with utter terror. He saw in the distance, watching the battle from the enemy’s side, a dark, powerful figure. Nicholas knew at once that this was the leader of the opposing force. Nicholas was determined to face this man, to pit the might of his god against this dark one. He waded through the battlefield, sending forth prayers to invoke the power of Kinich Ahau. Finally, he came to stand before the leader of his enemies.
Nicholas faced the tall, imposing figure before him without fear. If this was a dark god or a demon, it mattered not. His god, the sun god, would defeat it. Nicholas chanted his incantations. He stared the creature in it’s eye without flinching. He believed fully in his power and the power that he represented. Nicholas was wrong.
Dathan, the vampire, took hold of the upstart priest and effortlessly pulled Nicholas off his feet. Nicholas struggled to no avail, but he showed no fear. Dathan appreciated that arrogance.
“Do you not fear me, boy?” Dathan asked.
“My god will protect me,” Nicholas replied. Dathan saw the tattoos drawn on the boys body, the symbols for sun and sky.
“You worship the sun god,” he said. Nicholas nodded. “You’re mistake is in thinking that your god holds any power over me.”
Dathan’s face was twisted and ridged. His long fangs dripped with saliva as he spoke. The air of the battlefield was tangy with the scent of spilled blood. “I am a god too,” Dathan proclaimed. “I am the god who holds your life. This is night, and I am a god of eternal night. The sun holds no sway over me. Forsake your god, and I will give you immortality. You need only worship me.”
Nicholas had no fear, but as the monster held him in it’s grip, he found doubt. The darkness was all around, wrapping them like a shroud. This dark god held Nicholas life in the balance. He didn’t want to die. Nicholas called out to the heavens, to his god, the sun god, to save him, but there was no reply. The sun has no power at night. Weeping in despair, Nicholas bowed his head to Dathan.
“I worship you, dark lord,” he whispered, and Dathan laughed. The vampire bent to place his mouth against Nicholas neck, drawing forth the man’s life blood. He fed from Nicholas and then fed Nicholas from himself. Soon the deed was done. Nicholas had forsaken all he had ever held dear and was now a vampire too.
Nicholas followed Dathan around what would one day be the Americas and returned to the Old World with him as well. Dathan was Nicholas new god, and Nicholas was his proud servant. Nicholas was the “high priest” in the cults that Dathan began throughout the world. When Dathan went into The Master’s service, Nicholas followed. He kept his personal agenda for Dathan close to his vest and from outward appearances served the best interests of The Master. In truth, from the time of his “rebirth”, Nicholas has served the needs of Dathan first and foremost.
When the master started his “death cult” and Dathan decided to split, Nicholas of course followed him. Nicholas actually was glad to go, as he felt The Master’s cult was something of an affront.
POWERS/ABILITIES:
Nicholas has the ability to survive in the light of the sun for a limited amount of time. Due to his close association with a sun god, Nicholas was surprised to find that for limited amounts of time he can function in full sunlight. This is undoubtedly a result of the magic and training he received in Kinich Ahau’s temple.
Nicholas does not suffer any physical impairment while exposed to sunlight for a period not to exceed 2 hours. During this time, he feels no warmth and is unaffected by the light. However, as this is a reminder of all he once believed in and ultimately gave up, Nicholas does suffer emotionally during his time in the sun. He is unable to access any of his other powers while in the sunlight.
Nicholas can also assume the form of various birds. This ability relates to the magic he once practised in ancient Maya. While in these forms, Nicholas cannot communicate, but he can fly.
Nicholas has a access to a great deal of magic, but it is ancient and ritualistic, so it is constricted. Nicholas also possesses the typical abilities of all ancient vampires: thrall, immunity to telepathy and mind control, resistance to Holy items, ability to gain minions, toughness, and super strength.
ITEMS:
Nicholas has a plethora of gear and costumes relating to various religions. He also has items used in ritual magic, like daggers, knives, bowls, etc.
