Don't bring it! Just sing it!

well there is so much talk of music on this board I was wondering does anyone have the guts to actually bring their lyrical rhyme to us all?

I don't, but wait until I've got a few beers into me and maybe...

But seriously I'm dieing to hear something as my world isnt a visual world but a musical one.

Do you have a mic attached to your computer? if the answer is yes then you have all we need! Sing and record as a .wav file or anything and post it anyway you can...

You maybe saying Greg if you want us to do that, you lead, by example you sing and post us a link... bugger off I aint singing I've only had 6 beers you'll have to wait till I'm half plastered to hear me! Hopefully that will happen, but until then I'll keep drinking...

Greg what should I sing? Bloody hell don't ask me I'm just starting something hopefully it will be something funny and original or if you like perhaps something someone else has sung perhaps from the disco posts April started.

I don't care if it's origional, borrowed, stupid, country, hip-hop, western, ballard, punk, rock, gospel, heavy-metal, techno, old-time, rap, crap anything just something sing, speak, tweek, make stupid sounds, record a few of your hounds, damn just gimme sumthin .............................................

Don't bring it! Just sing it!

Well, for all those who have hooked up CUSeeMe at one time or another, I tend to sing a lot, sometimes without knowing I'm doing it. So I think all of the CU crowd have heard me sing at least once. And I know Robin hums the Merrie Melodies tune as a sort of background noise.

So, Greg, get hold of CUSeeMe and a headset, and I'll happily sing for you, too. :)

CU does seem to have a habit of crashing, especially with MSN 5. For me, it usually at least waits until I turn the Mic on; then CU Core quits responding. Or, I get it running for a while and have to reboot.

In any event, believe some people have heard me sing as well. Did a duet of the Pirate song with Heather. Oh, and she's also heard me sing in Middle High German. :) Of course, the only Middle High German I have the lyrics to is the Palastinaelied of Walther von der Volgelwiede.

I'm sure we all have the singing bug. And some of us can occassinally hit a good note. But I really don't feel massochistic enough to torture anyone with my voice. Come to L.A. I'm sure you'll catch me singing then. Not on purpose. I just sing without realizing it. (I also talk without realizing it, and I sound crazy. I think I have, what's it called? .... Turret Syndrome? Creepy.)

Side note:

When I was a busboy, i used to wash my dishes in the back room and sing whole albums: Billy Joel, Pink Floyd's the wall, and of course They Might Be Giants. I was singing TMBG's "The World's Address" and a waitress heard me. It turned out to be one of her favorite songs. Following a short romance, this waitress would become the girl I married!

romantic, huh?

Well, it's a really scratchy recording, and it ran out of time, but for what it's worth here's a sample.

www.geocities.com/ladyhawke2901/Barefoot2.wav

Being Geocities it may not work if you click directly on the link, but cutting and pasting the url should get you there.

All of you are very talented and I may abuse...er entertain you soon with some singing of my own.

Until then however I have uploaded your files locally and fixed all the links to point to the local copies ... so they should work properly. There is an announcement in the Members lounge that tell you how you can do the same for other multimedia

Well, you've been subjected to my singing in k d lang's deeper register. Now I get to torture you with some soprano. :) (Just be grateful I haven't recorded Der Holle Rache - ooh, now there's a thought! Mwahahahaha!)

Marble Halls

And yes, I've been completely nasty to all of you - please forgive the ragged bits. I'm seriously out of practice for this piece. It's an excerpt from 'Der Holle Rache' - an aria sung by the Queen of the Night in The Magic Flute. This is the bit where she is convincing her daughter to go kill the priest.

Der Holle Rache

And I have absolutely no idea why Marble Halls worked with url tags, but Der Holle Rache wouldn't. Stupid computers. Fixed it...Dave

okee dokee...I have made some short recordings for you folks to hear my voice. Heather and I may record a short duet while I am down there. In the meantime you get me singing sea shanty's solo and a capella:

The Sailor's Prayer

DAVE, I'm clearly just fucking around now. Please feel free to DELETE ALL OF MY .WAV posts. they're just for fun, and they're taking up valuable space.

Pray that I am never left home along without someone to distract me again. :) Kind of got bored, and figured, "well, may as well give some songs to show off how bad I can be." So, did a few of my favourite songs. Three of them are actually complete songs - my voice is starting to give out now (a favour for which I am sure you will all be glad).

Witchcraft - My attempt at singing Frank Sinatra. Actually tried a few different songs (yes, was that bored), and this was the best one. :)

Impossible Dream - a song from the musical "Man of La Mancha." The entire song, mind you, not just an excerpt.

Solipsism's Painless - A songfest would not be complete without one of Dr. White's philosophical parodies. This one is sung to the tune of the MASH theme, Suicide is Painless. This one also barely won out over We Didn't Start Inquiry.

If I Were a Rich Man - Not the entire song, just the start. The shortest of the attempts at singing. This is also when the voice gave out....

Ok, here's a treat for all you LABN'ers... a mystery voice! :D See if you can guess who it is (and no, it's not me :P).

Soulless Zombie's picture

Dave, I'm serious. YOu're just going to have to put a stop to all my fiddle-farting around. Now I've bastardized the Scooby Doo franchise by doing a PUNK meddley. Please erase ALL my recordings, because I just can't quit!!! It's a sickness.

Laws of the Administration

Soulless Zombie's picture

Coooooool, Adam. that was from Duck Soup, right?

Hey, how did you do the whistling and the duet at the end? did you layer your own voice, or did you have a friend over?

Don't bring it! Just sing it!

Kaarin's picture

Yes, I did the whisteling and Groucho's "ah-ah-ah-ahhhh" - and did layer my own voice. Quite easy to do, actually, if you have multi-editor doohicky (not awake at this point for fancy talk).

And yep, was from Duck Soup.

Don't bring it! Just sing it!

Stalker's picture

multitack layering is easy
even with the innocent little windows sound recorder you can layer stuff (although not with the best acuracy)

to do so just open 2 sound recorders the way you usually would and record your first thing on the first one

then on to the other record what you want recorded over
then on that recorder go up to edit and copy

then go on the first recording and go to the place on that recording you want your layer to go then go up edit and paste mix it's that easy

it may take time experementing but it's fun to play anyway
(also check out all the different options in the edit menu you can speed up, slow down, add echo or even reverse your work)

Marxist Shakespeare

Kaarin's picture

Well, I did it. I went and got bored again, and did something that makes me as bad (if not worse) than Siddy. Both of us are obviously just playing around as well.

Anyone who knows me well knows I love the Marx Brothers - obviously, from putting up a rendition of Laws of the Administration. However, now I've done something much, much worse. There was once a parody of Hamlet written titled A Night in Elsinore, which is rewritten for the Marx Brothers.

So, I read three scenes.

Scene I

This is the scene where Hamlet speaks with Claudius and Gertrude in the throne room at the start of the play, before going to see his father's ghost. Who is who should be obvious, since Groucho plays Hamlet.

Scene II

Another throne room scene. In this one, Horatio (played by Chico) goes to get Hamlet to see the ghost. My attempt at doing Chico's Italian is not too good.

Scene III

I don't remember exactly what scene was being parodied when I recorded this, but Hamlet and Horatio are talking about the King. Again, it should be obvious which part is played by who.

I was going to record the "To Be or Not to Be" speech. Instead, I just post that here for your (visual) consumption:

To be, or not to be; that is the question.
Hamlet begins speaking directly to the audience
If you can answer the question, you win fifty dollars,
which you'll have to split among the lot of you. To
be, or not to be? Does anyone have the answer?
He points to a member of the audience
You? I'm sorry, anything you have is obviously no
good. Including your date.
He suddenly turns somber
Oh, why don't I just kill myself now, and let you
folks go home early? Better yet, why don't you
folks kill yourselves now, and let me go home early?
You can take my word for it, you've seen the best
part of the show. It's all downhill from here. So
what do you say to a little mass suicide? Just think
of it, I wouldn't even have to take a curtain call,
and you folks could make theater history. Well,
come on! What are you waiting for? You're not
afraid of a little death, are you? Are you? But then,
maybe you should be afraid. Who knows what
would happen to you if you did kill yourselves?
In your next life, you might have to watch this play
rewritten for Abbott and Costello!

It finally worked!

A while ago, Heather uploaded a song of a "mystery person" singing That Man of Mine. She later did her own recording of it, and tried to upload it - but it wouldn't work. I tried as well, and it still wouldn't work.

Well, I was cleaning out some of the myriads of recieved files on my PC today when I came across that old MP3 and thought, "Well, why not?" I tried the upload, and it worked! Finally!

Uh, almost Adam... you get the first line then it craps out. :( Thanks for giving it another whirl, though.
