Funny, Kristen, seems like I said the same thing about you when we were collabing together........hmph!
You are so very worthy. You did exactly what was expected, and you answered the questions thoughtfully and competently.
So enough with this not wothy stuff, or the next time we collab I am going to be making a nuissance of myself:
"Oh, I can't keep up with you Kris...you're so much better than me...oh! Oh! Woe is me, woe is me!"
:D
But you are right. We've got some good stuff here, don't we?

Getting to know THEM (irrelevantly)
I'm a fan of character. Character is the product of setting and plot, just as much as plot is the product of character and setting, and, yes, just as much as setting is the reason plot and character's exist.
But I digress. We've all written our character profiles, giving one another the relevent information needed. But what about the irreleveant stuff?
I've composed a list of quetions that will hopefully better reveal our characters' OTHER selves. Some of this stuff has been answered in posts, but it would be nice to see it again in an official capacity. The inquiries to follow are to be answered at your discretion. Answer none, some, or all of the questions.
These 50 questions force you to look at your character in a holistic sense, not necessarily stuff that's found in the profile or storyline. The answers COULD be in the story proper, but don't feel limited. It's time to rediscover your character. It is hopeful that you will learn things about him or her than you didn't already consider, and it is hopeful that these questions will spark your imagination. If this exercise leaves you flat, nothing lost; don't take part. If you end up using ANY of this stuff in future posts, great.
Maybe this "stuff" won't be irreleveant after all.
(I use the pronouns "she" and "her" in this questionairre to mean "he" and "his" No offense intended. It's just easier, and sadly it's PC, more to which than I usually concede.)

_______________________________________
* The questions above are my own, but they were inspired by (The Writer's Digest for) Marc McCutcheon's book Building Believable Characters, copyright 1996. On a couple of occasions I borrowed heavily, but mostly, almost exclusively, I came up with my own after reading this book.
Also, more importantly, this is inspired by Mr. Dave's questionaire to get to know the players. Thanks, Dave.

Daye is from Ireland. Up until recently, she knew only about her mother, a witch and healer who lived in a small, neat cottaqe on the outskirts of a prosperous village. She found out that her family once ruled over an area not far from Kilkarney, in a large castle. They were nobles, until the family was all but destroyed by a powerful enemy which hid behind the Catholic Church. The family was charged with protecting and preserving an ancient artifact, The Soul of Atlantis, which was lost until a few months ago, when it came into Daye's possession. Daye's family, all her ancestors, were trapped inside a spell they had cast to capture their enemy. Daye set them free. The family is Irish, but they have roots in an ancient, long dead race, the Atlanteans.
11) How many years did she spend in school and what was the major and minor courses of study? Did she get a degree? How well did she do? Campus activities? That sort of thing.
Daye studied privately under the Watcher's Council for 8 years. The first 2 she spent in Ireland, and then she moved and continued her studies at the main compound in England after that. She has studied many areas of the paranormal, and is a skilled researcher. She has a degree, in Liberal Arts, from the Council's school, which is accredited. She was a quick study in magic, but she rebelled against the philosophical tenets of the Council. She did not bond with many of the other students, or spend time with them outside of pursuing her studies.
12) What is your character's strongest talent? That which she was born with.
Her strongest talent, which she was born with, is the ability to listen. She is a motherly type, who loves to hear her friends tales of woe and try to fix what ails them.
13) What does your character most want out of life?
Most of all, Daye wants to serve a purpose. To find the reason for her existence. She was told long ago that she would play a vital role for humanity. She wants to know how and what.
14) What does your character most NEED out of life, not always the same as want.
She needs to be loved. She has been lonely for a long time.
15) If you could write a single sentence, either active or descriptive, to reveal your character at this time, how might it go? (Be sure to state the date that this description is relevant).
Daye is confused, lost, half asleep. (As of August 15, 2005.)
16) What is the WORST experience she has ever been through? How did she handle it. (Remember, this doesn't have to be an already posted bit of storyline.)
The worst experience Daye has been through is the loss of her mother. She died of a wasting disease, which slowly killed her, robbing her of strenght and vitality. Daye tried with all her knowledge and ability to cure her mother, to no avail. She was devestated by her loss, feeling she herself was somehow inadequate. Ambrose Delancre came soon after, and Daye used the Watcher's Council to give her life a new purpose.
17) The BEST experience?

She avoids math like the plague. She hates, loathes, and despises numbers.

Her friends, and their accomplishments.
32) The sillies thing your character has ever said.
"Ryan. Oh, he's my friend. My very closest friend. You've got nothing to worry about, Kate."
33) The most inspiring thing your character has ever said.
In L.A. you've already made a new start. Maybe you thought it was just a temporary thing. Maybe you didn't mean to make any connections, set down any roots. But the truth is, you have. You've made friends. We care about you. Not just me, although I owe you my life. But all of us, Tash, Victor, Jade, all of us. We need you as much as you need us. We've formed a strange sort of family out there.
34) Describe her sense of humor.
She loves life, she laughs at the silly, wonderful magic that is being alive.
35) List all the sources of her income.
She receives a stipend from the WC, a salary for running The Bibliophile, and she has a family inheritance of which she has yet to find out.
36) Favorite food?
She's partial to vegetarian lasagna and homemade bread. Probably warm, homemade bread with fresh creamery butter is her favorite food.
37) Favorite game?
Trivial Pursuit, Demonic edition?
3 Favorite book/genera?

Uhm...she loves musicals. Her all time favorite is The Sound of Music.
40) BEST FRIEND(S)
She's only recently made real friends. When she lived in England, Daye kept to herself. Her best friends are probably Kate and Jessica.

Her absolute worst enemy right now is Ryan, but she thinks she loves him. Overall, her worst enemies are Ryan, Mother Mariah, and Ambrose Delancre

50) How do you see your character dying? This question is not FACT. It's just a possible future, based on HIM or her right now.
I hate this question.
Ok, she would probably sacrifice herself to save someone she loved.
51?) Other? ANYTHING?
Daye is a powerful, intelligent, and knowledgeable woman. I am proud to have created her.
All You Ever Wanted to Know About Catherine Wiccham...
1) What is the colour of her eyes? Dark Blue
2) What is her weight? Hmm, probably about 112lbs - she is very lithesome rather than muscular
3) What is her height? 5'7"
4) What is the colour and style of her hair? Red and very long, either poker straight or slightly wavy, she normally wears her hair loose and free flowing but occasionally ties it back.

6) What would you say is her most prominent feature(s). What would the average person notice FIRST? Her most stunning feature is her red hair, long and free flowing
7) What would the average person notice SECOND? Probably her eyes as they are a stunning blue colour
8) What would the average person notice THIRD? Her smile, if she was smiling at the time, her smile is very infectious
9) Notice LAST, perhaps after several meetings? The way she moves, very assured and confident
10) What is her family history? Lineage? Where did they come from? Where were they going? Ethnic Origin? Politics? Her family in a nutshell! Kate comes from a long line of witches, her family is one of the oldest wiccan families affiliated with The Coven of Sindell in England. Her family originate from that corner of Europe although several generations have progressed overseas to America and specifically Los Angeles. Kate's family line dates back over 250 years to 1753, although the entymology of the name Wiccham has changed many times over the years. The women in the Wiccham family have always been born witches and are gifted with amazing powers such as telepathy and telekinesis. The family has been affiliated with the Coven for the past 150 years, and since that time they have dedicated their lives and their powers to protecting innocents. This dangerous pursuit has almost entirely eradicated the Wiccham's, the family line is preserved in Kate, the only known living descendant.
11) How many years did she spend in school and what was the major and minor courses of study? Did she get a degree? How well did she do? Campus activities? That sort of thing. Kate joined the Coven of Sindell at age 16 after finishing her regular High School education. In High School Kate excelled in performance art, and wanted to be a dancer before she was informed of her 'birth right' and 'sacred duty' to protect the innocent.
Since joining the Coven Kate has studied predominantly witchcraft of the Gardnerian tradition but has also taken instruction in Pecti-Wita, Starkindler and the Lycian tradition. Kate has been educated in the workings of Herbalism as a method of healing the sick. The last few years of her tuition has been focused on spell casting and diplomacy. As part of her training in the Inner Circle Kate was also taught basic combat skills. In terms of qualifications Kate has an honours degree in Ethics which she partly studied with the Watcher's Council for, she was also initiated to the level of High Priestess (initiate 3rd level). In her spare time Kate used to teach Ethics to the first year initiates within the Coven.
12) What is your character's strongest talent? That which she was born with. Kate's strongest talent are the powers that she was born with - telepathy, telekinesis and clairvoyance.
13) What does your character most want out of life? Kate has always wanted to have a family of her own to make up for the lack of family in her upbringing
14) What does your character most NEED out of life, not always the same as want. Kate NEEDS to know that there is good in the world, that there is a reason to keep fighting the forces of evil.
15) If you could write a single sentence, either active or descriptive, to reveal your character at this time, how might it go? (Be sure to state the date that this description is relevant). Kate is blinded by love (August 15th season two)
16) What is the WORST experience she has ever been through? How did she handle it. (Remember, this doesn't have to be an already posted bit of story line.) Worst experience so far? End of season One, being kidnapped and tortured by her old Coven Elder, being almost sacrificed to the goddess Hecate in order to bring back a powerful witch from beyond the grave. On top of that her long time lover Lucien was also murdered as he attempted to rescue her.
How did she handle it? She knew it was coming, she knew Serapis would eventually find her and that he would probably win. Towards the end she was doubtful anyone would find or be able to rescue her in time to stop Serapis' evil scheme. She was devastated at losing Luc, she was more confused and lost and heartbroken than at any other time in her life. She wanted her heart to stop beating, she wanted the world to stop spinning. She was frightened and scared and alone. Luc was her first love and her first lover, he was always there for her when it counted - he showed her what true love should be like and what hardships it could endure. In short he taught her how to love. His death taught her that through the worst most terrible pain, life goes on.
17) The BEST experience? Finding love again after Luc, because she never expected it to happen.
18) Is your character introverted or extroverted? Extroverted, to a degree, Kate loves life - it is the greatest gift there is.
19) How does she handle hate? Kate has learnt not to hate believing that it only leads to darkness and bitter resentment. Had Serapis not been killed by Tempest maybe she would have hated him for murdering Luc. Maybe if she ever found out to what extent he and Janus had manipulated her life from so early on, maybe then she would learn to hate. The closest Kate has felt to hate is disgust. She was disgusted with the actions of her fellow coveners which was why she had to leave the coven. She doesn't hate them, she doesn't even hate demons or vampires. For the most part demons are just another race of humanity, many demons are more 'innocent' than humans. So knowing this distinction Kate is unable to hate them, neither does she hate vampires, they are just a part of life. Sitting higher on the food chain, feeding off humans. Kate will kill a vampire if she is attacked or if she heeds a call for help, but does not hunt them.
Anytime that Kate has given into hate she has always paid penance for it. She has been ill or hurt, extreme emotion also effects her powers making them unpredictable and in turn making her vulnerable.
20) Love? "The Greatest Thing you'll ever learn is just to Love and be Loved in return" Kate puts her faith in love, it is the greatest thing life has to offer. Love has the power to change all things and all people. When Kate loves she loves completely it is the only way she knows how.
21) Opinion on cute, cuddly things. Some things have the power to make her go "Awwww"
22) Croutons, bacon bits, or horseradish? urm croutons?? Probably, not bacon bits she a vegetarian.
23) What is admirable about her? Her dedication to helping others, even complete strangers
24) Undesirable? She can be too trusting, despite the ordeal she went through last year, some times she doesn't learn from her mistakes. She's also a terrible cook.
25) What is she obsessed about? Protecting the people whom she loves - she's lost so many she is determined not to lose anyone else if she can help it.
26) What does she avoid like the plague? Sea Monkeys - she is afraid of nothing but Sea Monkeys freak her out
27) What is she totally indifferent about? Patriotism - Kate follows the aphorism 'Perfect Love and Perfect Trust, so trust the Universe and be at Home everywhere'
28) Ever been arrested or been in trouble with the law (you shush Adam! ) Nope, neither
29) Political bent? Kate is an idealist, she wants to believe in the inherent goodness in everyone - even politicians. She would like to see democracy work - see everyone humans and demons living in harmony and working together. She would like to see an end to world hunger, poverty and oppression. Kate also respects the Earth which is representative of the Goddess.
30) What embarrasses her? Questions about her personal life
31) What makes her feel proud? Helping someone, giving them a second chance at life, and being of use to humanity.
32) The silliest thing your character has ever said. "Galen is a friend Inanna, there's nothing else going on…" - yeah, right!
33) The most inspiring thing your character has ever said. (TALKING TO DREW AS RESTLESS SPIRITS PASS OVER)"It would be better if you didn't look that place isn't for you yet… concentrate on now, where we are, life is the greatest journey of all, theirs has come to an end, but yours has not."
34) Describe her sense of humour. Playful
35) List all the sources of her income. There is no accumulated family wealth, Kate only inherited her family home in Los Angeles when her mother died. However Kate received a considerable severance pay-off from the Coven after resigning in the Mid Season. In season one Kate was short on money and worked as a waitress at Bob's Bar and then a clairvoyant in XY - she is still waiting to see if she has a job there.
36) Favourite food? Sandwiches - anything she can't burn, overcook, undercook, curdle or otherwise ruin. Oh and also tea, lots of cups of tea.
37) Favourite game? Twister it's the original party game - and the odd game of strip chess with Galen ;)

40) BEST FRIEND(S) Kate has many friends back in The Coven in England including her young ward and protégé Inanna Fairchild. During the last few months Kate has become close friends with Daye Blaisé (saving each other's lives does that). Kate has also recently been reunited with her old friend Jessica Travers. Galen Eldridge was a friend before he became a lover. Kate is also quite close to Tash and Jade.
41) Worst Enemy(ies) A couple of vampires from The Black Veins including their leader Black Jem, a few demons whom she had dealings with while working for Sindell. Her other enemies are dead, e.g Janus, Serapis, Anubis.
42) The worst outfit she ever wore. Her coven robes - she had to wear them all the time over her regular clothes for years while working for Sindell
43) The best outfit. Most of Kate's clothes are new, since most of her old belongings are still in transit from England. Best outfit is probably a dark green silk strapless dress - the same one she wore on her first date with Galen because it brings out the colour of her hair and eyes.
44) Her motto in life. Vita non est vivere sed valere vitaets - Life is more than merely staying alive
45) Describe her method (and perhaps colour) of transportation. She used to drive a BMW - she had to return it, it was a rental. Now she catches cabs or walks.
46) Opinion toward laws and rules. Kate has always followed the rules and laws of her Coven - she never took notice of the laws of society, since her witches oath forbids her from committing any kind of crime anyway. The law of 3x3 is a deterrent from doing harm against others and it had kept Kate from practising the acts of so-called 'black magic'. However the events of the last year or so have had an effect on Kate, though it hasn't come to the surface yet…
47) Worst dream ever. Oh she's had a lot - the worst is yet to come actually - keep reading the gameboard to find out more…
48) Best dream ever. She had many dreams (that weren't dialogued) of being back with Luc in England when they were first lovers - trouble and carefree
49) Masturbate or "go hungry"? Kate would probably 'go hungry' she's more motivated by love of a partner than sexual fulfilment. Sex for Kate is a connection of souls and a physical expression of the love she feels inside. It's just that at the moment she feels A LOT of love and likes to express her love on a frequent basis, many times in various spontaneous locations ;)
50) How do you see your character dying? This question is not FACT. It's just a possible future, based on HIM or her right now. Either mid-battle while fighting the forces of evil, while protecting an innocent - Kate would willingly give her life to save someone she loved -be that a friend or a lover. It would have to be something heroic, so her life had not been in vain.
51?) Other? ANYTHING? You want MORE? After all that?! Sheesh! Greedy Much!?
Getting to know THEM (irrelevantly)
Thank you Hannah, Kristen, and Louisa. I'm so glad you took part. Though some of the information was repeated from your profiles and posts, you did exactly as asked! I smiled during every one I read. And I even laughed a couple of times. (For instance...sea monkeys scare kate?????)
I was so happy with how serious you took this excercise. Kristen especially takes Daye seriously. I feel like stepping back when she writes.
And, Hannah, on a humorous note, "Yeys." hahahahahhahahahah.
I'll write one for Sam when I'm not collabing.
:)

Thanks Sid, that was really helpful.
Getting to know THEM (irrelevantly)
An Interview With Sam Aubrey.
Interviewed by Jeffrey Haines
JH: Good morning Mr. Aubrey.
SA: Good morning. Urm, will you call me Sam? It would make this easier. I’m a little nervous.
JH: Sure. Will you call me Jeffrey?
SA: No.
JH: No? Why not?
SA: It wouldn’t be easier for me. You’re Mr. Haines. Is that okay?
JH: Sure. Are you ready?
SA: No. But I’m willing.
JH: Good. Okay, first: what is the color of your eyes?
SA: Blue!
JH: You seem certain.
SA: I am.
JH: What is your weight?
SA: I don’t know. I never weigh myself. I’m heavy, I think.
JH: You look heavy. But not overweight. You look pretty fit, actually. Do you work out?
SA: Thanks. No. I mean, thanks for the compliment; no, I don’t work out. I just work. I have physical jobs.
JH: I see. What is your height?
SA: I am six feet tall. Six feet, zero inches.
JH: What is the color and style of your hair?
SA: Can’t you see by looking? You’re funny. Um, it’s brown. Short on the sides, long in front. No, wait, it’s blond. Does it look blond or brown to you? I’ll say brown-blond.
JH: I’d call it dusty blond. Almost brown. Mostly brown.
SA: (laughs)
JH: You have a nice smile. You kind of laugh like a dork though.
SA: (blush)
JH: Sorry. Anyway, what is your shoe size and, um, waist size? Both.
SA: I wear 11 ½ in men’s shoes. I like sneakers. The tag on my pants usually say 34 inches, but 35 sometimes. It depends on who made the pants.
JH: What would you say is your most prominent feature? What would the average person notice FIRST?
SA: That I have a nice face.
JH: You do.
SA: Thanks. I have my mother’s eyes and cheeks. I have Dad’s strong jaw line. I’m cute, I think. Not ugly, I hope.
JH: You’re not ugly.
SA: Thanks. I’m nice. I try to be. People would see that first, most people. I don’t know, I’m kind of sick of nice, though. I wouldn’t mind looking strong. Or intellectual.
JH: Don’t hold your breath. (Laughs.) O-KAY. What would the average person notice SECOND?
SA: These are tough questions. I’d say they’d notice…well, it’s like I try to talk intelligently with people. I …well it’s like sometimes they get this look in their face, right?, when I try to talk to someone. They look confused by me, and I’m just talking normal, trying to express myself. Not all grammatical, but it’s like I try to speak normally and intelligently. It’s not that I think this person is dumb not getting it, but they don’t always follow what I’m saying. I think I put people off sometimes. It’s frustrating. Because if you can’t communicate like you’ve got a brain, what’s the point, right?
JH: Right. What would the average person notice THIRD?
SA: Um…well…I think they’d say I’m pretty nice, pretty much the total opposite of my dad. Dad was a jerk. I don’t want to be like him. I’m totally not him. That’s what people would say. If they knew dad, they’d have to know dad. And me, too. They’d totally have to know me. Does that answer the question?
JH: I don’t know.
SA: Sorry.
JH: Don’t be. Maybe it’s just me.
SA: That’s right. It could be you.
JH: So what would someone notice LAST about our elusive Mr. Samuel Aubrey, perhaps after several meetings with him?
SA: I…don’t know. Maybe…people should know that I’m very, very, very…very…not dumb. I have something to offer, you know? I can do things if I’m given a chance. There’s more to me than just being a janitor. I think a lot about questions and problems. I don’t just sit around watching TV. But when I do watch TV, like me and Reah like to do that when we hang out, I try to use my thinking skills. I don’t just let TV tell me what to see. I see for myself. I want people to see that. I hope they would understand that, if they got to know me.
JH: What is your family history and lineage? Where did your family come from? Where were they going? Ethnics? Politics? Your family in a nutshell.
SA: Dad says I’m German on his side. Mostly. Mom says I’ve got roots in Scotland and some other places. I think I’ve even got some spic in me. I wouldn’t be surprised if I’ve got nigger too. Can I use the word nigger here?
JH: Obviously. You just did.
SA: I forget sometimes…But we never talked about my non-Aryan roots when I was growing up. Dad says I get most of my genes from him, and my personality from Mom. Dad’s republican, by the way. Mom doesn’t vote. We were a pretty normal family.
JH: I can see that. Next: how many years did you spend in school and what was the major and minor courses of study? Did you get a degree? How well did you do? Any campus activities?
SA: Right off the bat, I want you to know I graduated high school.
JH: I see. No need to shout by the way.
SA: I wasn’t shouting.
JH: Sorry. It was your tone of voice.
SA: No, I’m sorry. Sorry. So, school was hard, yeah, but I did it. I wasn’t the best student, but I got a lot of support. Well, it’s not like my teachers paid all this attention to me much, but I was in all these special classes, so that was pretty neat.
JH: What kind of special classes?
SA: Math and English and—
JH: Smart classes?
SA: Next question, please.
JH: Okay. Sorry. Um…what is your strongest talent? That which you were born with.
SA: I try. I really do. If you tell me to do something—even though I might let you down—I try. And if trying isn’t good enough for you, then I’m sorry. But I really go to bat for you. Going to bat means that I go out of my way to—
JH: I know what “going to bat” means.
SA: Right. Okay, um, so, like, I’m a trying person. I try. Understand? I might not always get it right, but there it is. I try.
JH: Many people don’t try. You should be proud.
SA: I am.
JH: Sam, what do you most want out of life?
SA: (Long silence.) I…want…I want a wife. I want to meet a nice girl. My dreams are like most people’s dreams, I guess.
JH: What kind of girl? Like this Reah person?
SA: No, Reah’s my best friend.
JH: That’s the best kind of wife.
SA: She wouldn’t go for me. I’m not her type. She's too outgoing to bother with me.
JH: How do you know?
SA: ANYWAY…I like girls who are tough. I like girls who can really know who they are. I like girls who are tall like me. I like girls. Enough said. No special stuff.
JH. Okay. How do you feel about girls in glasses?
SA: Don’t care for them. I think a girl should be smart without needing to wear glasses.
JH: Glasses don’t make you smart.
SA: (Nodding frantically.) M-hm! I know, I know. But I want a girl who’s willing to have kids. I want a kid.
JH: Do you want a boy or a girl?
SA: A girl. I want to call her Katherine. Or maybe if my wife doesn’t like Katherine, I’ll call her Tara. Tara is good. Oh! Or Cleopatra.
JH: Cleopatra? Cleopatra?
SA: Yeah. Cleo. Or Jade.
JH: Jade.
SA: I met a girl named Jade the other night. It’s a good name. But to get back to the subject, I want my wife and daughter to respect me. I want to be so smart they can’t get enough of me. I want to be a genius. I want to win the Nobel Prize. I want to be an astronaut. I want to be a great writer. Like John Steinbeck. I want to be John Steinbeck.
JH: So your "dreams are like most people’s dreams,” huh?
SA: Pretty much.
JH: Okay, what do you most NEED out of life? Mind you that this is not always the same as want.
SA: Um…I think I just answered that.
JH: So you need a wife, a daughter, the Nobel Prize, and you need to be an astronaut and a writer? Excuse me, you need to be John Steinbeck?
SA: I’m remembering a time my mother stopped at my school and took me out of Mr. Battle’s art class, sixth period. I don’t know if this applies.
JH: Go ahead.
SA: In my senior year my mom took me out of school and brought me to the hospital. The burn ward, where they keep all the little burned children.
JH: Freaky.
SA: It wasn’t. She introduced me to a guy named Jack. Jack was retarded or something. But he had a way with children. I wish I could be like that.
JH: Uh huh.
SA: You should have seen those little crispy faces.
JH: (Chuckling loudly)
SA: It’s not funny.
JH: Sorry.
SA: It’s okay. Mom was so touched. She was almost crying watching Jack hold them and bounce them. They laughed. Those kids were smiling. And when he did this thing where he tied balloons into shapes…
JH: You mean balloon animals?
SA: You've heard of it.
JH: Of course!
SA: It's not funny!
JH: Sorry. Continue.
SA: So Jack used balloons and made doggies and kitties and elephants and echidnas…
JH: Echidnas?
SA: It’s not funny. He made those kids’ day. Mom looked at me. Her face was all puffy. You know what she said?
JH: I’m afraid to ask.
SA: She pointed and said, “You.”
JH: What does that mean?
SA: I don’t know. I couldn’t ask her because she was crying. And then in the hospital cafeteria she told me that dad was kicking me out of the house after graduation. That really kind of changed the subject.
JH: I see.
SA: Anyway, next question.
JH: If you could write a single sentence, either active or descriptive, to reveal yourself at this time—August 17, 2005—how would it go?
SA: Er…um…
JH: Take your time.
SA: Okay. Um…it would go something like….”I like Mr. Tek…I like Tash…I like Jade…I like mashed potatoes…
JH: Hah!
SA: Should I stop?
JH: No. Go on. I won’t interrupt.
SA: Um…I like Reah…um….I like her trends…she’s super nice…I like our friendship.
JH: Groovy. More than a sentence, but groovy.
SA: I like…dogs, not werewolves, I like anything that doesn’t drool much.
JH: (smile)
SA: It's okay. You can laught. That last part was meant to be funny.
JH: Ha!
SA: Thanks. Um…I like Hesch…I dig Kimmie…wish Hesch would be nice…wish Kimmie would see me again.
JH: Not bad. Is that the end of your poem-thingy?
SA: Almost: I want to be great…more than myself…I want to expand…
JH: Yes?
SA: I want to be so smart that lights shoot out of my head.
JH: That doesn’t rhyme in the slightest.
SA: No. It doesn’t.
JH: Can I laugh?
[Silence.]
JH: Never mind. Okay, what is the WORST experience you’ve ever been through? How did you handle it?
SA: Finding Kimmie and my best friend together in my bed was pretty bad.
JH: Kimmie and your friend had sex?
SA: No. Bunny and Bill. Bunny is my wife. Ex-wife. Bill is my friend. Ex-friend.
JH: You said Kimmie, though.
SA: Oops.
JH: So that was the worst thing ever?
SA: Well, I’ve been mugged since I got into L.A. I’ve been chased by dogs—big, big, dogs, you have no idea, and mean, too. And I’ve been rejected for jobs. I stubbed my toe the other day.
JH: But Bunny was the worst?
SA: Yes. The worst.
JH: How did you handle it?
SA: I ran. I always run. I ran from Mike.
JH: Mike?
SA: Mike. He mugged me. Never mind. And I ran from the were—er—the dogs wearing collars. I ran from them pretty fast.
JH: And you ran from Bunny and Bill.
SA: No. Actually, I chased them. That’s why I’m living her in L.A.
JH: That’s not running at all, is it?
SA: No. It’s not. (Smile.)
JH: What’s your best experience ever?
SA: At this second, it’s this interview.
JH: What else?
SA: Thanks. You just ruined it.
JH: Sorry.
SA: Next question.
JH: Would you call yourself introverted or extroverted?
SA: I don’t know what that means.
JH: Are you a private, reserved person or an outgoing person? Outgoing like Reah.
SA: I’m that intro-thing you said. That doesn’t mean like perverted does it?
JH: Not at all.
SA: Then I’m intro…introverted?
JH: Exactly. So, how do you handle hate?
SA: (Looks uncomfortable.) I don’t hate anybody.
JH: Not even Bunny? You followed her to L.A.
SA: I want her to apologize to me.
JH: That’s it? Apologize.
SA: That’s it!
JH: Okay, okay. Sorry. Should I ask how you handle love?
SA: Love?
JH: Love.
SA: I…don’t love. I want to love. I guess I super-like Reah and Tash. And I appreciate that Jade got me my apartment. But love? I don’t know what that is.
JH: You are wise.
SA: (Blush) Thanks.
JH: So this next question might not apply, okay? How do you feel about cuddly things.
SA: I don’t have an opinion. Reah likes them—stuffed animals, right? So I better get used to them. They’re okay. I like cuddly things.
JH: Now for something non-sequitur: croutons, bacon bits, or horseraddish?
SA: People eat horseradish?
JH: Mmm….horseradish. Yes.
SA: Gross. I don’t like any of those things. Bacon bits, I guess. Is broccoli not on that list?
JH: Next question: what is admirable about you, Sam?
SA: I stick up for my friends.
JH: Would you die for them?
SA: Define ‘die.’ Do you mean I would cut off my own foot so they could have a foot, because I don’t know.
JH: Never mind. Anything undesirable about y—?
SA: Because I’d cut off my own foot to save Reah’s life. But not so she could wear it for herself, I wouldn’t. Then she could find her own foot. And I wouldn’t boink her to save her life, either. But I’d boink her if we loved each other. But I wouldn’t even do that, because we’re just friends. I don’t make love to friends. I don’t even make love to women all that often. Like when I made love to Kimmie, it was because I thought she loved me. And I was lonely. But that was an exception. I don’t do it for no reason. I was a virgin before I met Bunny. Right? Um, that doesn’t answer the question I guess. What was the quest—
JH: You answered fine.
SA: Oh.
JH: What would you say you’re obsessed about?
SA: You mean what I like to do all the time no matter what? Or want to do or something?
JH: Um…right.
SA: I want to be a great person that everyone likes. I’ve never been liked before.
JH: I like you.
SA: You don’t count.
JH: Gee. Thanks.
SA: You know what I mean. You created me. You have to like me.
JH: Makes sense.
SA: But I don’t like you much? Is that okay?
JH: I’d have to say no. But I can’t help what you’ve become. Um, okay, fuck it: what do you avoid like the plague?
SA: Rejection.
JH: That’s a pretty hard thing to avoid.
SA: Just popped into my head.
JH: Then what are you totally indifferent about? Take your time this time.
SA: (Sigh.) I… have no feelings toward politics. Dad was on my mom’s case all the time for not being Republican. He wouldn’t shut up about it. He made my mom sleep on the couch every November. Mom didn’t vote.
JH: That’s horrible.
SA: Yeah. So I don’t care about politics.
JH: Sounds like you’re pretty steamed about politics to me.
SA: Really?
JH: Yes, really.
SA: Oh. Can I change my answer?
JH: Well certainly.
SA: Music that nobody’s ever heard of.
JH: That was a quick answer.
SA: That’s because I don’t care about it.
JH: How do you feel about They Might Be Giants?
SA: Who?
JH: (Sigh.) Never mind. I was just being hopeful.
SA: Are you still able to interview me? Sounds like you’re getting off on the subject.
JH: I’m good. Question #28-ish. Have you ever been arrested or got in trouble with the law?
SA: I stole a couch recently. Does that count?
JH: Were you caught?
SA: The hotel manager ran out screaming.
JH: Were you caught by the authorities?
SA: No.
JH: Then next question: What would you say embarrasses you?
SA: When people talk to me in the tone of voice that you just did.
JH: Oh. I’m very sorry.
SA: I’m used to it.
JH: What is your political bent, er…you sort of answered that. Well, if you were to vote, how would you vote?
SA: I don’t know. I kind of thought that that guy Ralph Nader sounded cool, but that was years ago.
JH: Why would you vote for him?
SA: His named sounded like “Darth Vader.” I think Darth Vader would make a funny leader. Not the Darth Vader that appeared in Episode III. That was kind of silly. That whole scene where he turned out to be Luke’s father was dumb.
JH: But he was Luke’s father. We learned that in the Empire Strikes Back.
SA: We did? Um, I didn’t watch it all the way through. It bored me. Star Wars kind of bored me altogether. I liked the first one.
JH: That’s interesting to know.
SA: If you say so.
JH: Besides everything you just revealed, what’s the silliest thing you ever said?
SA: I don’t think I ever say silly things. I try real hard to talk like a real person. Maybe you could tell me. You wrote my life. What have I ever said that’s silly?
JH: Never mind. What’s the most inspiring thing you’ve ever said?
SA: "No."
JH: "No"? What was that all about?
SA: A girl tried to…have sex with me using her mouth…sorry to talk dirty…
JH: It’s okay—
SA: When we were on the bus together coming to L.A. But I’m not that kind of guy. I was sort of still married. I’m faithful. So I told her no.
JH: Describe your sense of humor.
SA: I think I’m normal there. I laugh when I almost die but then end up living. That would make anyone laugh, because you’re totally happy to be alive. And I laugh at Gilligan’s Island. And I laugh at Friends, sometimes. And I laugh all the time when I watch Power Puff Girls. Ren and Stimpy Returns is pretty funny.
JH: How about the Simpsons?
SA: Mm…well…. no. Sometimes, yes. But no. I don’t really get it all that much.
JH: List all the sources of your income.
SA: I work on-call for The Armory. My boss, Joe, pays okay for the short jobs he asks me to do. But my real job is for Victor Tek. I’m his janitor. He gives me a paycheck and a place to live.
JH: Have a favorite food?
SA: I love sandwiches. I love Subway…even though they didn’t hire me. And I love broccoli, of course. That was my staple when I used to live with Kimimie. I like cereal, and candy and popcorn—
JH: I get the point. Do you have a favorite game?
SA: Checkers. I’m good at that.
JH: Favorite book?
SA: I don’t read.
JH: Isn’t that a book I see hanging out of your coat pocket?
SA: This? No. This is just Of Mice and Men. It’s okay. I guess the ending made me cry. But I haven’t really read the whole thing. Reading is boring.
JH: But you want to become a writer.
SA: Or an astronaut. Or a sea captain. Sometimes I think I’d like to learn to sail. But I’d have to learn to swim first.
JH: Favorite movie? I know Star Wars is out of the question.
SA: I like anything that makes me think. And I don’t mean stuff like the Three Stooges. I mean stuff like The Wizard of Oz or Winnie the Pooh.
JH: So you’re an A.A. Milne fan.
SA: Who? No, I mean Winnie the Pooh. Disney. You know. I like Lewis Carroll, too.
JH: Who?
SA: Alice in Wonderland. You don’t know Alice in Wonderland?
JH: Sure, uh, Disney’s version?
SA: There is no version of Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland. Of course Disney did it. I had the Little Golden Book when I was a kid.
JH: Right. Sorry. I was having a momentary lapse of reason.
SA: It’s okay. I understand.
JH: Who is your best friend?
SA: Reah!
JH: Worst enemy?
SA: Um…a guy named Mike. But that’s the best I can come up with. I don’t have enemies.
JH: What’s the worst outfit you ever wore?
SA: I couldn’t tell you.
JH: The best?
SA: Ditto.
JH: Okay, moving right along…what would you say your motto is in life?
SA. Hm. I’d say…NO MATTER WHERE YOU GO, THERE YOU ARE.
JH: Do you own a car?
SA: Once. Well, it was Kimmie’s. The one day she didn’t have it anymore. I asked her about her car and she acted like I was crazy, like she’d never heard of it, like she didn’t own a car. I think she was messing with me. She probably crashed it and was embarrassed to say something.
JH: How do you feel about our nation’s laws, and rules in general?
SA: Good. I like law.
JH: Even when you steal a couch?
SA: That was Reah’s idea.
JH: Fair enough. What’s the worst dream that you ever had?
[Silence.]
JH: Okay. Never mind. I hit a cord there. How about your best dream?
[Silence.]
JH: Um, right. Okay. Next: do you masturbate?
[Silence.]
JH: Okay, you just “go hungry” then.
SA: I masturbated a couple of times.
JH: Oh. How was it?
SA: Uncomfortable. I kept thinking my parents could hear me through the walls.
JH: I know the feeling.
SA: It was weird.
JH: Last question. Ready?
SA: Uh-huh.
JH: How do you see yourself dying?
SA: I’m going to die?
JH: Of course. We all die.
SA: But can’t you just say I won’t?
JH: No. I can’t. You must die.
SA: Right now?
JH: No. But it will happen.
SA: I wish it wouldn’t.
JH: Don’t worry. You’re a fictional creation. I won’t kill you unless it’s either totally at random or with great meaning. Nothing in-between.
SA: That doesn’t make me feel better. But you’re God, right?
JH: Mostly. I'm the god of you, at any rate.
SA: So why can’t I just live forever?
JH: Because I don’t want you to. That would be pointless. I’m talking about your life having a point.
SA: But I don’t want it to have a point! I want it to be dull.
JH: Too late. You’re past the point of no return.
SA: (Bottom lip trembling.) Can I please live forever?
JH: No. I’m sorry.
SA: Please? Don’t you love me?
JH: I like you alright. But I don’t love you.
SA: Why? Please, why?
JH: Because I can’t let myself get too attached. Just like the god of myself won’t get too attached to me. It’s the nature of things.
SA: Please I’ll do anything. Let me live forever! Love me!
JH: No. I’m sorry.
SA: What kind of god are you?
JH: The kind of god who knows when to end something that’s become tedious.
SA: Please, can't I just say one more thing? Anything? Can't I ju
Getting to know THEM (irrelevantly)
Wow, Greg. you and I think alike. We both did the interview thingie. I must say I like how you handled it!
As Heather would say: )))))))))))))))))))))
Getting to know THEM (irrelevantly)
Sid,
It never ceases to amaze me the shit your brain cooks up. The idea of a fictional character arguing with his creator about whether he can have a last word because it told him he has to die in either a pointless random manner or as a meaningful sacrifice was really a masterwork.
Kudos champ! You make your Dad proud!
Getting to know THEM (irrelevantly)
Thanks. You make me happy, Dad.
But my real dad came into the room when I was 19 and told me I was wasting my time on the computer. I can't write without hearing his voice.
Anyway, I stopped writing for a long while. It's nice to have encouragement.
Will you be my Dad? Patrick Steward honsetly won't return my calls.
Getting to know THEM (irrelevantly)
Victor/Vrithetek is a complex being with two natures. One is the human persona of Victor Tek. The other is the Demonic Vrithetek. They are the same "person" but for the ease of reference, Victor is always the human persona, and Vrithetek is always the demonic persona (for good or evil).
Answers in blue are the answer for the soul acquired by Vrithetek. Answers in red are for the demonic entity known as Vrithetek that is the evil residual that resides in Victor. If an answer is in black it is for the human persona of Victor alone or something for which there is no argument.
1) What is the color of her eyes?
Pale Blue
Red multifaceted eyes that glow
2) What is her weight?
450 lbs / 250 Kg
3) What is her height?
6' 2" / 1.88 m
9' (2.75 m) with 10" (25 cm) horns
4) What is the color and style of her hair?
Blondish in a stylish cut that is generally moussed and wavy.
No hair
5) What is her shoe size? Waist size?
10-1/2 *
No shoes
* Victor's glamour allows him to wear any size shoe and it appears to fit. He generally buys men's size 10-1/2
6) What would you say is her most prominent feature(s). What would the average person notice FIRST?
God, he's handsome
Ahhh! A Demon!.
7) What would the average person notice SECOND?
He looks RIGHT AT YOU when he talks. It's somewhat intense.
AHHH! A Demon with horns!
8) What would the average person notice THIRD?
He has a very calming voice and that makes you want to believe him.
AHHH! A Demon with slime and spikes!
9) Notice LAST, perhaps after several meetings?
He is fake. He reeks if insincerity and whatever it was he said to you before, you don't believe it.
Huh? You aren't going to eat me? Hm, not a bd guy (for a demon).
10) What is her family history? Lineage? Where did they come from? Where were they going? Ethnics? Politics? Her family in a nutshell!
Vrithetek is an outcast from his society of hive-mind soldiers who are controlled by the huge flying Monitors in the dimension of G'rnatha. He and his kind are slaves of the creators (small 'c') who are the unseen peers of the Creator (capital 'C') Ghortab who designed and built them.
Vrithetek is known as a Deviant because he had free will. He escaped through an abandoned "travel ring" to this dimension over 2000 years ago.
Victor is the human persona he has adopted. It is one of several personas he has used over the years all of them starting with 'V' (Vito, Vincent, Vivian *, etc…). The appearance he uses currently was "designed" by Janus especially for him. He has used it since the 1970's.
* Yes, he has used female personas, although he things of himself as male.
11) How many years did she spend in school and what was the major and minor courses of study? Did she get a degree? How well did she do? Campus activities? That sort of thing.
Victor has never attended school, university, or taken any classes. He has debated the nature of good and evil with some of the greatest minds in history. He has sought answers from enlightened personalities and has complete recall.
Some of the personalities he has met include Nostradamus, Rene Decartes, Vlad Tepes, Marquis DeSade, Ghandi, Albert Einstein, Suliman, Ghengis Khan, Charlemagne, Thomas Beckett, Ken Kesey, Timothy Leary, and many many more.
12) What is your character's strongest talent? That which she was born with.
Victor knows shit. Lots and lots of shit. He has been there and done that many times over. He is virtually indestructible, too, but that is more of a trait than a talent.
13) What does your character most want out of life?
Victor wants answers. Truth is an addiction for him. He has to know the truth. Things that defy explanation frustrate him terribly and he tends to obsess on them
Vrithetek wants mayhem. And destruction (yeah!). And souls! Lots of souls!
14) What does your character most NEED out of life, not always the same as want.
Victor needs to be knocked out of his rut. Something needs to shake him to his very roots. Love appears to have done that to him.
Vrithetek needs to be absorbed, accepted and integrated into Victor. As long as he is treated as a separate entity he will become more and more extreme.
15) If you could write a single sentence, either active or descriptive, to reveal your character at this time, how might it go? (Be sure to state the date that this description is relevant).
Dateline-2005: Victor is the personification of a spiritual quest. He seeks to understand his dualistic nature but he refuses to see them as two parts of the same nature.
Vrithetek is the tempter…the corruptor. He seeks to taint, ruin and destroy everything good in Victor's life. Vrithetek does not see this as self-destructive behavior.
16) What is the WORST experience she has ever been through? How did she handle it. (Remember, this doesn't have to be an already posted bit of storyline.)
When he was burned by Talhu in Paris in 1982. He nearly was destroyed that day.
The day he gained a soul in 1170
The day Janus died. When he heard of her death was when he realized he could love, and had missed the chance.
17) The BEST experience?
The day he escaped from G'rnatha
The day he realized that he loved Tash
The time he took over Tash. It was the ultimate corruption.
18) Is your character introverted or extroverted?
Extroverted.
19) How does she handle hate?
Victor has rage but very little hate. The few things he reserves his hate for are mostly self-directed.
Hate is good!
20) Love?
Victor is new to love and does not much understand its power.
I hate love. I love to hate love. I hate that I love to hate it. Grr!
21) Opinion on cute, cudly things.
Total indifference. Victor does not understand the attraction. Although he still has to think twice about bunnies (you never know what KIND of bunny it is)
Good eating!
22) Croutons, bacon bits, or horseraddish?
No thanks, I like my cute, cuddly things plain.
23) What is admirable about her?
He keeps going and going and going. He never gives up, never surrenders. He does not know when to quit.
24) Undesirable?
He very often acts without thinking. He will decide on a course of action and take it without considering the ramifications.
25) What is she obsessed about?
Love. It disturbs him how little he knows about it and how much it fills his life. He spends too much time thinking about it.
26) What does she avoid like the plague?
Love. It disturbs him how little he knows about it and how much it fills his life. He spends too much time thinking about it.
27) What is she totally indifferent about?
Law and Society. Victor has seen entire civilizations rise and fall and be forgotten. Law and societies are like motion pictures: seen and soon forgotten.
28) Ever been arrested or been in trouble with the law (you shush Adam! :))
Victor has managed to avoid entanglements with the law by changing identities. On the few occasions he has been arrested or imprisoned, he has managed to escape and change.
There are things worse than the law. Watchers, the Lords of the Fae, the Society of Ulle, The Slayer, The Moral Majority, and the Vatican to name a few. These entities have appointed themselves keepers of the SUPERNATURAL law and they have attempted to destroy him on more than one occasion.
29) Political bent?
Pfeh! Politics go away if you wait long enough.
Politicians make a dandy snack, but I'm always hungry again four years later
30) What embarrasses her?
Praise. Victor is unused to being appreciated in any capacity.
When he fucks up and does the right thing. It has happened on occasion.
31) What makes her feel proud?
Doing the right thing whether by accident or design.
Feeling absolved of some small portion of his guilt
When he manages to break out of the repressed corner he is kept in.
32) The silliest thing your character has ever said.
"We who are about to die, salute you!"
She can't get enough of her hunka-hunka-burning brimstone.
Shut up!
33) The most inspiring thing your character has ever said.
"While you may not have his past, I have to hope you are in some ways the same man."
One thing can free an impure soul.
I hate to interrupt a professional while he's working.
34) Describe her sense of humor.
All aspects of Victor/Vrithetek's persona have a humor that is deeply rooted in pain. It is cruel and abusive.
35) List all the sources of her income.
You have got to be kidding! Victor lives off the dividends of a lifetime of robbing, stealing, hoarding, cheating, and just existing long enough to realize a profit. Do you know what the interest is on JUST his gold bullion from the 17th century?
36) Favorite food?
Victor does not need to eat. He has a self-renewing biology that draws necessary nutrients from the surrounding environment as needed to replenish itself.
Self-renewing biologies still require energy which, in Vrithetek's case, is refueled by spiritual energy such as souls. Vrithetek gets a different kind of "charge" from the kind of soul which he has learned to distinguish as "good" and "evil". He can drain the life energies from any sort of biological life, but Sentient, self-aware, spiritual energies are the best. He has drained enough souls to keep himself powered for years without needing a recharge at this point (assuming of course he does not need to repair any further damage. That sort of effort drains him faster).
Each soul is good for months by itself. Evil souls give less power, than 'pure' souls.
Girl scouts, Nuns, Martyrs (yum!)
37) Favorite game?
Chess
38) Favorite book/genera?
Stuffy history and mythology or religion texts
Comic Books
39) Favorite movie/genera?
Movies aren't something Victor enjoys. They are too short. The screen flickers make him a little nauseous.
40) BEST FRIEND(S)
Tash…and that’s about it. Victor has many acquaintances he has encountered in his time and while he is friendly with them he really isn't friends with them.
41) Worst Enemy(ies)
Himself
42) The worst outfit she ever wore.
A bathrobe and boxer shorts.
43) The best outfit.
The Corneliani suit he wore when he arrived in LA. He has not really had an opportunity to wear it again.
44) Her motto in life.
" Time will come when you will need more than life. Then those days of existence will pale with the desire for more than a creator can give. A soul will give you power. A pure soul will take you higher than an impure soul. An impure soul is worse than existence. Only one thing can free the impure soul from its torture."
45) Describe her method (and perhaps color) of transportation.
Victor does not generally drive himself anywhere. He takes cabs, gets rides from Tash or Henna, or in a pinch will borrow a vehicle. His unusual size and weight do not make it easy for him to ride ordinary vehicles.
46) Opinion toward laws and rules.
They will go away if you wait long enough.
47) Worst dream ever.
Victor has only had one dream and it was horrible. ([url= http://www.latenightgames.com/node/1#comment-272]read it here[/url])
48) Best dream ever.
Never had a good dream
49) Masturbate or "go hungry"?
Victor is asexual so this is an irrelevant question to him.
50) How do you see your character dying? This question is not FACT. It's just a possible future, based on HIM or her right now.
Victor's spiritual journey will end with his meeting Ghortab. At that time he will be judged and either destroyed as a failure or turned over to the hive-entity of G'rnatha as a messiah (and probably killed).
51?) Other? ANYTHING?
It not over yet, folks. It will get worse for Victor before it gets better.
Getting to know THEM (irrelevantly)
Sid,
You ARE my son. Heather and I adopted you on day one and have decided that pretty soon you and your sister Amanda are going to have to come live with us in Kansas where we will farm dirt and corn. The cattle will grow big and strong and you and your prize pig can win blue ribbons at the county fair while your sister wins talent contests and is crowned the Harvest Queen.
Everything you ever wanted to know...
1) What is the colour of her eyes? Deep brown
2) What is her weight? 136lbs 62kg
3) What is her height? 5’7” 170cms
4) What is the colour and style of her hair? Black, kept cropped fairly short.
5) What is her shoe size? Waist size? Don’t know American shoe sizes. In Aust, she’d be about a size 7. Waist size is 27”.
6) What would you say is her most prominent feature(s)? What would the average person notice FIRST? If she’s smiling, her smile. It’s very open and broad.
7) What would the average person notice SECOND? Her eyes. They’re the eyes of someone who’s seen more than they should.
8) What would the average person notice THIRD? Her athleticism.
9) Notice LAST, perhaps after several meetings? She tends to hide her scars, so most people wouldn’t notice them for a while.
10) What is her family history? Lineage? Where did they come from? Where were they going? Ethnics? Politics? Her family in a nutshell!
Tash’s parents were ostensibly from a fairly ordinary middle-class background. They settled in St. Louis and raised two children – Natasha and her younger brother Patrick. Only recently did Tash discover that a 600 year-old vodoun woman in fact manipulated them into marrying in order to produce psychic offspring. Tash’s abilities manifested at an early age and caused her to be regarded as a weirdo by her schoolmates. Even her own parents were uncomfortable with her strange behaviour. Consequently, Tash had a fairly lonely childhood with only her brother Patrick seeming to understand, due in part – no doubt – to his own burgeoning psychic talents.
11) How many years did she spend in school and what were the major and minor courses of study? Did she get a degree? How well did she do? Campus activities? That sort of thing.
Tash attended high school until the age of 14, when her family were killed. She’d always done well academically, but ceased formal study at that time. After that, Matthias Perrett undertook her tuition. This centred mainly on honing her physical and psychic skills, though he did impart some knowledge, both arcane and mundane, to help her survive her new world.
12) What is your character's strongest talent? That which she was born with.
That would have to be her psychic talents. These include aura reading, telepathy and psychometry.
13) What does your character most want out of life?
Tash is driven by the desire to rid the world of vampires. Even now that she knows the vampires that killed her whole family were also manipulated by Ohenewaa, she is determined to fulfil this goal.
14) What does your character most NEED out of life, not always the same as want?
Tash needs to be understood, and accepted for who and what she is. She had a close bond with her brother because he fulfilled this need. Likewise, she grew very close to Matthias as a father figure, friend and mentor for the same reason.
15) If you could write a single sentence, either active or descriptive, to reveal your character at this time, how might it go? (Be sure to state the date that this description is relevant).
At as Sunday 14th August 2005, Tash is desperately confused. She has buried the memories of Ohenewaa deep within her because she didn’t want to confront the hideous evil that the woman had done. However, this means that those memories are making their presence felt via Tash’s subconscious, causing her to behave erratically. (Sorry, that was three sentences…)
16) What is the WORST experience she has ever been through? How did she handle it? (Remember, this doesn't have to be an already posted bit of storyline.)
The day her family was killed when Tash was 14. She saw the twisted, bloody bodies of her mother, her father, and her brother. She followed the psychic trail left by the vampires and would have walked into their nest single-handed to take them on, no doubt dying in the process, but Matthias intervened, transforming her purpose into that of revenge rather than self-destruction.
17) The BEST experience?
Realising that she and Victor were true soulmates, with a deep, abiding love that transcended everything, including species.
18) Is your character introverted or extroverted? Tash is an extrovert by nature – but she spent many years remaining aloof from other people due to her childhood experiences, so she comes across as a strange mix of shy, suspicious, open and trusting.
19) How does she handle hate? The only things she truly hates are vampires, and until recently she dealt with them with a cold implacable approach. Since about May or June 2005 she has gradually lost her detachment, however, and as at 14th August she actively revels in the kill.
20) Love? Tash never thought she would find somebody to really love. Now that she has, she’s let her guard down somewhat, allowing her playful side to come out. However, during the current phase of her erratic behaviour, she has come to take her lover somewhat for granted, treating him merely as an extension of herself.
21) Opinion on cute, cuddly things. She can take ‘em or leave ‘em. She has no soft toys in her flat (no, Robin, not even penguins ;)), nor indeed anything much that isn’t of a practical nature. Her life is remarkably uncluttered by ornament.
22) Croutons, bacon bits, or horseradish? Oh, I’m sure Tash is a horseradish kind of girl. Hmm, get that cold burn down the back of the nose, yep.
23) What is admirable about her? Her compassion. Despite her aloofness and wariness, she has an enormous soft spot. It’s just buried a little deep. But it does manifest itself on occasion (her tendency to pick up ‘strays’ for instance).
24) Undesirable? Her inflexible attitude. Once Tash has an idea in her head, she won’t let go of it easily, until the evidence against it is overwhelming.
25) What is she obsessed about? Easy one! Killing vampires (especially at the current game date of 14th August). Oh, and bonking Victor. :)
26) What does she avoid like the plague? [b]Touching things with her bare hands. The psychometric impressions are unstoppable, though if she touches one thing for an extended period the visions ‘run out’ after a while. She has had to touch inanimate objects and even worse, people (much stronger visions, experienced rather than viewed), over the course of Season One, but she never enjoys it.
27) What is she totally indifferent about? Money. Matthias always provided for her and Tash is not an extravagant person, so she really couldn’t care less about acquiring or spending personal wealth.
28) Ever been arrested or been in trouble with the law (you shush Adam! :))? Tash had police contacts while in St. Louis (where she lived until 2003). This helped with her vampire-dusting activities, since these sometimes included what would be considered breaking and entering.
29) Political bent? Pretty indifferent to politics.
30) What embarrasses her? Not much. Certainly not nudity. I guess what embarrasses her most is having to admit to weakness of any kind.
31) What makes her feel proud? Tash rarely feels proud about herself. If she’s truly able to help someone through a difficulty or crisis, she feels something approaching contentment.
32) The silliest thing your character has ever said. "I just got that today. I wonder if the warranty covers demons?"
33) The most inspiring thing your character has ever said. "I know you carry a lot from your past. All I can say is what's done is done. You have the opportunity to reinvent yourself every day, by the choices you make."
34) Describe her sense of humour. Tash has a very dry wit, though occasionally her playful side comes out when she’s alone with Victor.
35) List all the sources of her income. Matthias had a substantial store of wealth, and he had arranged for a monthly allowance to be paid to Tash’s account. Since his recall by the Sidhe, he was able to transfer all his wealth to her.
36) Favourite food? Jade’s brownies.
37) Favourite game? Tash is not much into games. Her time is mostly spent on training and hunting.
38) Favourite book/genera? When Tash does read for recreation, she probably gets into spy/thriller novels (Tom Clancy, etc.).
39) Favourite movie/genera? Since taking up with Victor, Tash hasn’t been to the movies (he can’t stand the frame rate). Action/adventure is probably her favourite genre.
40) BEST FRIEND(S) [b]Matthias is no longer in the picture, but Tash was always very close to him. Currently, her best friends would be Jade, Kate and Daye. Her relationship with Sorrow is somewhat in flux at the moment – not sure you would call it friendship right now. She has a friendly working relationship with Ian Pollock in St. Louis. And, last but by no means least, Victor is the part of her she never realised was missing (although she is treating him like shit at the moment).
41) Worst Enemy(ies) Valerian is out there somewhere – he tried to turn her when she was 20, but right now he’s more concerned with Jade and Sorrow. Tash has, however, made a vow to Jade (that she may well regret at some stage). "Jade, I promised you I'd help keep you safe from him. And I will. I'll find him for you and I'll kill him."
Black Jem is a constant thorn in Tash’s side, and as yet Tash is unaware of Deon’s presence in LA…
42) The worst outfit she ever wore. A revolting frothy tulle and satin dress Tash was forced to wear at age 13 for the school social. She remembers the snickers, and even with the kids who wore straight faces she could see the spikes in their auras.
43) The best outfit. A sexy number she bought soon after her birthday ordeal. She’s worn it only once so far, on a date with Victor.
44) Her motto in life. Ho! Ha, ha! Guard! Turn! Parry! Dodge! Spin! Ha! Thrust! (Ok, so I got lazy on this one and stole Daffy Duck’s lines…)
45) Describe her method (and perhaps colour) of transportation. Tash has a motorbike (of unspecified make and model) which is a deep purple with black leather upholstery.
46) Opinion toward laws and rules. Tash follows her own rules. Don’t kill (or preferably even harm) humans. Kill vampires. Uh, that’s about it…
47) Worst dream ever. Tash has a recurring nightmare – almost every night of her life since her family’s death. It involves seeing her parents’ bodies and her brother Patrick’s body strewn and bloody as they’d been left by the vampires. Then usually her mother is reaching out to Tash asking why Tash killed them. This dream is sometimes flavoured by the intrusion of other elements (eg, when she ‘inherited’ Tempest’s nightmares for a short time, when Valerian’s broadcasting was spilling over to her, and the more recent dreams about Ohenewaa).
48) Best dream ever. Sometimes Tash dreams of when she and Pat were young. He was so vibrant and full of life, and was the only person who really seemed to understand her back then.
49) Masturbate or "go hungry"? Hehe, well, I guess it’s pretty obvious from the recent shower scene that Tash refused to ‘go hungry’. :)
50) How do you see your character dying? This question is not FACT. It's just a possible future, based on HIM or her right now. I have a nasty feeling that Tash will end up as vampire bait one day… either simply being sucked dry or, worse yet, being turned and having to be staked by one of her friends. I’d like to see her die a heroic death, one with meaning. Like averting a disaster. But who knows?
51?) Other? ANYTHING? Geez, you’ve gotta be shitting me…

Oh, Mom! :?
Hahhahahahah.
*sigh*
Funny. :D
Getting to know THEM (irrelevantly)
Dad, you just brought a new creative element to this thread with your post. I'm wondering how many ways we can do this questionairre?
Not to discourage anyone. Just fill it out, that's all I ask...if not for the board, then for your own recrods. (As Robin also pointed out.)
And how Victor both obsesses over and avoids LOVE was a good answer.
Oh, and one more thing, just because it's the last thing I read and I haven't forgotten it yet:
"At that time he will be judged and either destroyed as a failure or turned over to the hive-entity of G'rnatha as a messiah (and probably killed). "
COL, CW (chuckle out loud, chuckle well)
I'm still smiling. All I can say is, things are kind of tough shit for ol' Vic. Kind of hard for him to win, huh? :P
Getting to know THEM (irrelevantly)
I seriously hate you all!!! Really
Actually, I am awed once again by the abundance of talent on display on this board.
Sid, Dave, Heather...
*Kowtowing* I'm not worthy.
Getting to know THEM (irrelevantly)
This was so useful in gaining an extra insight into my character that i decided to link my answers to my character profile sheet on the game board. I noticed a few other people have followed suit and just wanted to suggest it to other players as a possible idea. In my case I just added a 'Links' section at the bottom of Kate's character profile, since it may transpire that other character related links get added in the future.
BTW - still waiting to see a few more characters take this interview/questionnaire... ;)
Getting to know THEM (irrelevantly)
Erm, just feel free to yell at me until I do it. :)
Getting to know THEM (irrelevantly)
Thanks for the suggestion, Lou. I noticed that you and Dave did that. But I'm having a hard time figuring out how to do it. You mentioned adding link...?
Getting to know THEM (irrelevantly)
To link a page to another you need to use the URL tag in the message body, I find the easiest way is to do it like this: (omit spaces)
[url = http://www.latenightgames.com/node/136] URL TEXT HERE (EG - All You Wanted To Know About ____) [ /url ]
To link to your own questionnaire you need to change the 'start' number at the end of the URL code (where it says 'start=0') count the posts till you get to your post remembering that the first post is 0 and then replace the final number in the URL code.
SO for example....
[url]http://www.latenightgames.com/node/136] = Mantheana's Questionnaire
[url]http://www.latenightgames.com/node/136] = Daye's Questionnaire
[url]http://www.latenightgames.com/node/136] = Tarix's Questionnaire
And so on...
Where the F*** are you?
There are still characters who have not completed a questionaire...
No, its not required. No, I won't bite you if you don't do it (unless you aske real nice). and no, its not going to impact your play of the game (much).
Yes, it would be wonderful to hear more about your character. Yes, it may help you find something in your character you didn't think about before. Yes, there is no good reason for NOT doing it.
You know who you are...
Sorrow, Jade, Galen, Jessie, Parasol, Logan, Reah, Derek, and Zayn.
Getting to know THEM (irrelevantly)
Oh, we'll give them a break. Me, mostly. I didn't want this to be something annoying. I just liked the idea.
Besides, why not allow them to fill out their own questionairre? These are just the questions I came up with. I was trepidatious about posting them, because I didn't want people to feel forced into my vision. And we don't know they haven't answered the questions. They might not have posted them, is all.
Getting to know THEM (irrelevantly)
There is an old sales adage: "If you don't ask for it you'll never get it"
I am a firm beleiver in asking for something if I want it. It has little to do with whether they will give it or not. If nobody else fills it out, I won't lose any sleep. If for whatever reason they chose to never fill it out, thats okay. But I will still ask.
This is a low-pressure game. Do or do not, there is no try (thanks, Yoda!). All the stress, pressure, and trepidation anyone feels here is becasue they give it to themselves not becasue I give it to them or because we have built a culture of expectation. We are here to have fun.
SO if it isn't fun, skip it. But I had fun filling out mine, and I think Sid has gathered a good collection of questions for exploring your character's life, not neccesarily a description. I think you'll have fun too.
So get cracking! Have fun NOW! (just kidding!)
Getting to know THEM (irrelevantly)
You're right as usual. But since we're asking for what we want:
I want a bleached blond in a red convertable on the Planet Swartz.

Getting to know THEM (irrelevantly)
1) What is the color of her eyes?
Brown
2) What is her weight?
Oh, I don’t know.
3) What is her height?
5’8”
4) What is the color and style of her hair?
Brown, conservative
5) What is her shoe size? Waist size?
6) What would you say is her most prominent feature(s). What would the average person notice FIRST?
Very handsome.
7) What would the average person notice SECOND?
The Suit. When did K change his appearance?
8) What would the average person notice THIRD?
Galen is paranoid. VERY paranoid.
9) Notice LAST, perhaps after several meetings?
He’s hiding something – you aren’t sure what, but you know he isn’t exactly everything he appears. Probably has something to do with saying that he works on “sensitive matters” to get out of talking about work, when that could mean anything.
10) What is her family history? Lineage? Where did they come from? Where were they going? Ethnics? Politics? Her family in a nutshell!
Galen’s family has lived in Roswell for generations, and heard stories about the ’47 crash from his grandfather, although his father hates the alien tales. Had a big fight with his father when decided to join the Bureau, since Dad wanted him to stay and be an accountant like he was. Never got much chance to visit or speak with them afterwards, and has not been in contact since joining MJ12.
11) How many years did she spend in school and what was the major and minor courses of study? Did she get a degree? How well did she do? Campus activities? That sort of thing.
Four years studying criminology, plus time at the academy to become an agent. Has learned about demons and the occult through work with MJ12.
12) What is your character's strongest talent? That which she was born with.
Galen has something of a talent for sniffing out inconsistencies and hidden information. It’s either a side effect or cause of his paranoia. Probably both.
13) What does your character most want out of life?
He originally joined the Bureau because he wanted to do what little he could to make the world a better place, which was also why he became a part of MJ12. Only now that he’s become disillusioned, he wants to know the truth about the people he works for.
14) What does your character most NEED out of life, not always the same as want.
To recapture the idealism that originally motivated him. Galen needs to know that every little bit of good helps.
15) If you could write a single sentence, either active or descriptive, to reveal your character at this time, how might it go? (Be sure to state the date that this description is relevant).
Galen is slowly becoming more paranoid than before (August 16)[b]
16) What is the WORST experience she has ever been through? How did she handle it. (Remember, this doesn't have to be an already posted bit of storyline.)
[b]The day when he had to commit and cover-up his first state-sanctioned murder, of a reporter who was prepared to expose enough discrepancies in spending to trigger an investigation by Congress that would expose the organization. That was also the same day that Galen smoked his first cigarette and took up drinking. Spent a long time rationalizing it both before and after the fact, to convince himself that there really was no alternative.
17) The BEST experience?
It’s a tie between the day his original love agreed to marry him, and the day that Kate came back into his life. He doesn’t think of either woman as better or worse than the other, just different.
18) Is your character introverted or extroverted?
Somewhere in the middle
19) How does she handle hate?
Tries to avoid it, since it clouds your judgment
20) Love?
It’s a really wonderful feeling. Only he’ll never ask someone to marry him again, not after last time.
21) Opinion on cute, cudly things.
Nice and adorable, except for the brand of demon that lives in New York and looks like a puppy.
22) Croutons, bacon bits, or horseraddish?
Bacon bits. Unless Kate is around, in which case he goes for croutons.
23) What is admirable about her?
Dedication to protecting those he is close to, desire to at least try to do the right thing.
24) Undesirable?
The fact that he’s the kind of person who is capable of executing innocent people – and has done so in the past – for the sole purpose of keeping Majestic secret, despite feelings of remorse. Also an EXTREME level of paranoia.
25) What is she obsessed about?
Avoiding exposure of his participation in the conspiracy.
26) What does she avoid like the plague?
Facing the truth about the people he works for, what kind of person he once was, and what kind he has become while working for them.
27) What is she totally indifferent about?
Politics. Galen no longer sees much point in things like voting or the debates.
28) Ever been arrested or been in trouble with the law (you shush Adam! )
Well, Galen has been arrested for breaking in to the hospital while trying to find information on Project Lazarus. Usually manages to barely avoid being arrested, though has been chased by the police a few times.
29) Political bent?
Thinks that it’s possible for government to work, with the right kind of people involved. However, he has serious doubts about the possibility that humans and demons would even be able to live together. Elitist tendancies being challenged.
30) What embarrasses her?
Praise, especially praise about how he’s a “good person.”
31) What makes her feel proud?
Actually being able to do the right thing, or helping someone else.
32) The silliest thing your character has ever said.
”Holy Jumpin’ Mother of God in a sidecar with chocolate jimmies and a lobster bib!” – quoting Sam from “Sam and Max” while rescuing Tash.
33) The most inspiring thing your character has ever said.
My characters? Say something inspiring? Doesn’t really happen.
34) Describe her sense of humor.
Mischievous
35) List all the sources of her income.
The government.
36) Favorite food?
Steak. Only he doesn’t eat that much anymore, so has to go for Ravioli instead.
37) Favorite game?
Chess.
38) Favorite book/genera?
He has some interest in the occult. Mostly reads “true crime” on the rare occasions when he gets a chance to read.
39) Favorite movie/genera?
Film Noir. Especially a fan of Humphrey Bogart. Movies – Maltease Falcon and Big Sleep.
40) BEST FRIEND(S)
In L.A., Kate is about the only one he could consider a friend… among other things. Anthony Constillias barely qualifies. At Area 51, he usually hangs with a group of drunks: Goethi, Circe, Lucky, and Jocasta. The five of them make up the drinking team (of which he is the coach).
41) Worst Enemy(ies)
Colonel Laura Wilson, USAF, and member of Majestic Command. Her and the member known only as “the Scotsman” are probably his two biggest enemies right now, though he doesn’t know about them.
42) The worst outfit she ever wore.
Off-screen: the costume he had to wear in order to get close to a demon. Dressed like a court jester.
43) The best outfit.
One of his suits, though not the “man in black” one.
44) Her motto in life.
Deny Everything
45) Describe her method (and perhaps color) of transportation.
Black ford Taurus, usually a rental for local travel. Has been known to ride in unmarked black helicopters from time to time.
46) Opinion toward laws and rules.
The laws are generally there to protect society. Unfortunately, there are some times when you must break the rules because of the consequences of not breaking them. At least in so far as controlling demons and the like go, he regards himself as protected by the laws in the name of national security. Whether or not this is right, he is no longer entirely sure of.
47) Worst dream ever.
Will be updated when that is published
48) Best dream ever.
None written, but has had a number of dreams where he no longer has to walk around like a paranoid nut because he’s no longer in Majestic. Or never joined in the first place.
49) Masturbate or "go hungry"?
Do we HAVE to answer this?
50) How do you see your character dying? This question is not FACT. It's just a possible future, based on HIM or her right now.
Found shot to death in his apartment, with the murder weapon left at the scene. Despite the fact that he is shot in the middle of the day, the police can find no description of the killer, no leads in the investigation. No possible motive is ever determined. The case is closed due to ‘lack of evidence’.
51?) Other? ANYTHING?
What? 50 questions isn’t enough?
MY DINNER WITH PARASOL
Hello, colleagues at LABN!!! Parasol and I went to a sushi joint after dark last night to discuss the Knowing THEM…Irrelevently topic. Sorry for the length but we are after all, women and we ran our mouths for hours. Plus, we drank all that sake. This is the edited version. I start out telling you who says what, but then that got boring. I was also going to do the bold, unbold or color thingy but I got lazy. I am hoping instead that it’s evident. If you’re confused, it’s always me, then Parasol, then me. You get the idea. I call this:
-----------------------------------
MY DINNER WITH PARASOL
SHERLYNN: Parasol Smyth. You look fabulous, as usual. I’m so glad to talk with you in person. I’m gonna crib off someone else’s idea – again – and interview you, if that’s okay.
PARASOL: Fine by me. Though we’re the same, you know.
SHERLYNN: Maybe. Although I don’t bite people and drink blood.
PARASOL: Sure about that?
SHERLYNN: Yes.
PARASOL: It doesn’t have to be literal. It can be figurative. Don’t you think it’s rather vampiric that you’re writing me in a realm that was created by someone else’s imagination?
Hmm. Haven’t thought of it that way.
By the way, I really liked “Richard.”
“Richard?”
Your first big post.
Ahh, “Richard.” Yeah. Me too. Okay, what color are your eyes.
Same as yours, girlie. Green.
Not a very delicate question for a woman, but how much do you weigh?
130 lbs.
How much is that in British Empire weight?
You mean “stone?” Dunno. I live in America.
Fine. How tall are you?
5’7 ½. How tall are you?
5’9”
Tower over everyone, do you?
Just about. I see you got a shitload of hair.
Yeah, just like you used to. Stupid girl.
Well, it was so heavy and hot. I gave it away to Locks of Love. They make wigs for children with cancer.
A child’s wig with all that gray?
Ok. So they sold it. It was good quality hair.
Yeah. I saw it. Crowning glory and all that mess. Next question?
What is the color and style of your hair?
Again, amazingly, same as yours used to be. I think there’s a pattern here.
Maybe. You write what you know.
Oh really, Hemingway. You know the Pre-War south?
No. But I read. Sojourner Truth and all. And I went to Fisk.
Yeah, so did I, when all those folks were about educating their Negroes.
Don’t be snide.
Not being snide. I see you’re trying to pair me with a West Indian. You ever date a West Indian man?
No.
Ever met one?
Yep. They’re, um, self-assured.
They’re arrogant. All that “We kicked the British off our island” bullshit.
Well, they did.
Small island.
And yet… What is your shoe size? Waist size?
8 ½. 25. Yours?
Amazingly 8 ½. 29.
Hmmm.
What would you say is your most prominent feature(s). What would the average person notice FIRST?
What did you devise?
Your eyes. There’s something about light eyes in dark skin. It’s like deep brown eyes on a flaxen blond. It’s disconcerting.
You know what I first noticed about you?
No. What?
Your thoughts.
Is that some creepy vampire thing?
No. You wear your heart on your sleeve, or at least you do with me.
There are, like, 50 questions here. Can we get on with it?
Sure. I serve at the pleasure of Sherlynn.
I like the sound of that. What would the average person notice SECOND?
My ass. Got a ghetto booty.
Just like Beyonce.
And I see you cast quite a silhouette yourself there, sister-girl.
O – kay! What would the average person notice THIRD?
No wonder there are 50 questions. One and two are enough.
One more. What would one notice LAST, perhaps after several meetings?
Again, just like you. I’m really, really, really smart.
What is your family history?
You wrote it somewhat melodramatically. Tragic mulatto. White father, slave mother. I call it the Mandingo syndrome.
People in England, Australia, Singapore and Kuwait may not understand that. Perhaps the other Yanks on the board might. What’s the Mandingo syndrome?
Miscegenation run amok.
What’s miscegenation? I know, but maybe they don’t.
Mixing of the races, particularly when it was against the law on the books.
Your home state just took that law off their books 2 years ago, didn’t they?
Yep.
What’s your politics?
Politics? I’m a member of the familial party.
What’s that?
The world turns. Things change. Different factions come in and out of power. But family will always be there. I mean for my family to survive.
At all costs?
By any means necessary.
Very Malcolm X of you.
Knew him.
Name dropper.
Maybe. But quite a name to drop, dontcha think?
So you said you went to Fisk.
I did.
Why?
My father educated me, of course, as you wrote. But I wanted a degree.
Why on earth?
I suppose because I wanted the paper that said I was educated; just like I wanted the paper that said I was free. It may seem trivial to you because in comparison, you’re spoiled. You’ve had quite a bit handed to you.
I wouldn’t say “handed.”
I would. You’re a child of the mid-century black intelligentsia; the Talented Tenth. You had dance lessons, music lessons, private catholic schools, private college. Mommy and Daddy paid for it. You didn’t grow up with a boot on your neck. You’re so spoiled that you never really tried in school, just getting by on that wick-smart of yours, and those good looks you had.
Watch it, sister-girl. There’s wood all over LABN. One word from me…
Don’t worry. You still look good. Damn, you’re vain. My point is that people fought hard and died for you to go to school.
No need to preach to me. But I rather think they fought hard and died for the choice to go to school. To captain their lives as they saw fit, even if the ship they wished to captain was Sloth. You’re kinda making me mad.
Don’t mean to. It was an observation. Not a criticism. I see your ego is rather delicate too.
I think calling me “spoiled” is rather critical.
I bet you belonged to Jack and Jill?
See. You don’t know everything about me and my mother would be appalled at that question. Explain Jack and Jill to the good people out there.
Jack and Jill is…was…is? Is Jack and Jill still around? Anyway, it’s a social society for African American children, ostensibly to imbue them with social graces, breeding and education. It was actually a snotty, snobby country club of upper-crust saddity black folks measuring other black folks by the color of their skin and generational removal from slavery. So…your mother didn’t like it? I venture that she wouldn’t pass the paper bag test, huh?
You had to bring that up. I’m not explaining that. Stop laughing. I won’t mention that you’re letting out all of our secrets, missy.
You’re the one writing this. As I think another interviewee expressed, I’m but a pawn. By the way, as you write, I notice that you frequently bring up “The Black Thing.” Why’s that?
I’m just expressing thoughts that whirl around in my head. I don’t really have a forum to express them. I don’t mean for it to be “A Thing” and I'm certainly not the arbiter of being black in America. It’s just that I go out into the world every day and though in the scheme of things, I’m nobody’s “hood rat,” I am a 45 year old black woman in America; it’s part of me and it’s part of you and Chinaka.
I know that. But you’re writing for a collaborative website with all kinds of people here. Why force the issue?
Am I forcing it? I don’t mean to. Look, you regularly go places and you’re the only vampire in the room – right?
Right.
You’re the only one who knows that, though. I go places and 99 percent of the time I’m the only black person in the room and everybody knows that, including me. It’s a distinct feeling, especially for one like me who in their lifetime did sit in the “colored” section and drank from the “colored” water fountain; not by law, of course, but by local practice. Plus there’s an appreciation of a culture that frankly, I not only want to express, but want the fabulous folks at LABN to understand and understand through a medium that is already a winner – the Buffy universe.
That bitch tried to kill me.
Again, with the name dropping. Look…who’s doing the interviewing here?
Ask.
I understand you sing.
I do.
Haven’t heard you yet. Do you plan to sing sometime on LABN?
That’s up to you, now isn’t it.
Is singing your strongest talent?
No.
Okay, I’ll bite, no pun intended. What is?
My talent is survival. You don’t get to be 170 plus years old…
Older than I.
Yes, dear. Older than you…sheesh. Issue much? You don’t get to be that old being a fool. I’ve learned some hard lessons and only had to learn them once, unlike some people.
Parasol, why are you going there?
Next question.
What do you want most out of life…um…?
Let the question stand. Though the flesh is dead, it’s up and walking, it’s occupying space, conversing with you. By that definition, I’m alive. Earlier in this conversation, we talked about the family’s ability to go on. That’s what I want.
But it seems like “life” is hard for you. You’re dancing a rather intricate jig on a pretty sharp razor, don’t you think? Hey. Don’t cry for Chrissakes.
I’m not crying. I’m tearing up. There’s a difference. Vampires don’t cry.
Spike did.
Ahhh. Spike.
I suppose you knew him, too.
You could say that. Next question.
GET OUT!!! You didn’t!! Did you? You di’in’t! Oooh, girl.
Next question.
Damn, girl. Spike. Jeez. Give me a minute. I gotta, just gotta…think about this. I’m, like, in awe. Did he give you the “I’m gonna wear you out and leave nothing but gristle and bone” look?
Stop shaking your head and ask the next question. You need to do something about that man thing.
But…Spike!!
Look, ask your next question. I’ll sit here because I’m being held hostage, but I would like to finish before the 25th page.
You’re right. Sorry. What do you NEED out of life and this is not what you want; it’s different.
Thank you, Giles. I’m…
GILES!!!
Well, actually, I called him Ripper… Sorry, a bout of reverie.
I think I’m gonna pass out.
Envy will do that.
Bitch.
Cow.
Heifer. Bet he didn’t know you were a vampire. Watchers don’t take their duty lightly. Dammit, I know my Buffy lore.
All he had to do was touch me to know, honey. I’m room temperature, remember?
So, he touched you. Rupert “Ripper” Giles touched you?! How much did he touch you? Where did he touch you?
Some here. A little here. Kinda here. And, ahhh yeah, a whole lot here.
Hold up, girlie. This is a public place and there are 14 year olds reading this. What are you laughing at now?
Damn. Were you this easy in high school, ‘cause if you were…
Not easy. Good natured; kind hearted; friendly and who have you been talking to? I take it then, no Giles?
No Giles.
Whew!!! What do you need, other than flaunting your dalliances, real and imagined, in my face?
I need blood.
Eww.
You asked.
What’s the WORST experience you’ve ever been through and how did you handle it?
Watching my father beat Loxum.
You say that so plainly.
I’m a plain woman.
Hardly. Why was it the worst?
I answered your question. May I have another?
No, wait. You didn’t answer it completely. I need to know your true answer; what you feel.
I feel like I answered the question.
You don’t like to talk much about feelings, do you?
Whereas you talk about them all the time, to anyone who’ll listen, and there aren’t a whole lot who listen to you, are there Sherlynn? Kinda pathetic, don’t you think?
Hey, Chick!! You better back the fuck up. This one isn’t about me. You run every time someone asks you to stand and say what you feel. Why’s that? Chinaka’s about to go nuts with your cryptic, monosyllabic answers, and I don’t blame her.
Does anyone in your world get better from you? No, I don’t think so. You come all over an imagined world and discuss intimacies with people you’ve never seen, writing, telling, answering questions no one asks you. But you desperately want someone, anyone to touch you and ask them, don’tcha – Chiiiick? And you may write me kinda cuddly, but don’t you ever, EVER forget. Vampire here. I’ll not say whatever I want.
Really?
Yeah, really.
Parasol, why was Loxum your worst experience and how did you handle it?
Because I loved Loxum like he was oxygen and I watched my father beat him as if he were less than an animal until there was no longer flesh on his back. Just his insides to his ribs; like ground meat. And he kept his eyes on me the whole time and all that was there was love for me. Not pain. Not anger. Not hate. Just love for me. He just died there. Still looking at me, hanging like carrion. Still loving me. And they walked away from his carcass as if it were all in a day’s work. Nobody since has loved me like that. And I ache daily for it. How do I handle it? I never think about it. I never discuss “my feelings” about it. I never ever turn my eyes to that heartbreaking scene in my mind. I’ve forgotten it. Happy now?
Not really. That was hard to write.
It’s just all about you, in’nit?
Parasol, I know you’re a vampire and all, but don’t screw with me. And don’t try to Lechter me either. I bite at the very least as deeply as you.
Yeah, well, so I’ve heard…Sake?
Please. Now for something completely different. What was your BEST experience?
Spike.
Bitch.
Cow.
Heifer. Are you introverted or extroverted?
That all depends on the situation and what’s necessary.
Okay. I’m looking at the rest of these questions and there are good ones here that I want to ask, but why don’t we save them for another dinner.
Oh, goody. More angst and manipulation over raw fish.
Don’t be like that. This is really good. I never get to talk to you. Everyone else can. It gives me a better handle on how to write you. It kinda brings you into focus for me. And you’ll be all the richer for it.
And still, goody.
I love you, you know. And where did you get those shoes?
They are sharp, ain’t they?
Yep. Where please?
Sale at Bloomies. $79.95 down from $225.00.
You’re killin’ me.
Not yet.
Bitch.
Cow.
Ho.
Oooh. The Ho word. I’ll get the check.

Parasol and I are going out again next weekend and I’m thinking of asking Chinaka. But maybe not. I really enjoyed being alone with Parasol, our spat notwithstanding. We’ll finish this up then. Great idea, Sid. I didn’t look at it as a requirement at all. I hope I haven’t been too greedy with time and space. This conversation wrote me.
Getting to know THEM (irrelevantly)
I found Parasol's interview very interesting, for it touched on race. The subject of race is a touchy one, isn't it? Some people say don't talk about it. I'm with George Carlin; sure you can talk about a forbidden topic. You can even joke about it. It just depends on how you contruct the joke. And when you're open-minded enough to accept the foibles of your own life, it's even funnier. If Sam Aubrey were to have interviewed me, the question of the silliest thing I've ever said would have come up. I've said a lot of silly things, the least of them on this site. Picture now your humble narrator, little Jeffrey, just as he turns 21 years old...
For the first time, I was in New Orleans attending my grandfather's navy reunion. I was in the big city, the heat of midday enveloping me, which was not easy for a cold climate person. I'd never walked alone before in such a vast place, and I was full of being a grown up, having left my mother and grandparents in the hotel. I could do anything I wanted, anything at all. Anywhere, anything.
I entered the first establishment I recognized: Woolworth's. Because, naturally, when you go travelling, you want to feel at home. The store was huge. I had no clue that in five more years I'd be married and living in this city and doing much of my shopping in this very store. For the time being, it was all new, exciting, and loaded with African American people. Wow. Real life N'awlins folk. I could almost reach out and touch them. I was still breaking out of my high school days, a time when mommy bought my clothes. I prefered blacks and whites--to fit my mood and, well, you don't have to color-coordinate when you buy bland colors. And people think you're deep. They don't know just how shallow you really are.
There, near the lingerie department, I spotted the neatest cap I'd ever seen. It wasn't stupid-looking, sporting the colors and name of some stupid baseball team or hip hop band. It was something I would actually wear. It was all black except for this really neat-o white "X" on the front. I wanted it. I picked the hat up, wondering if I wanted to spend a portion of my Denny's tips on something I didn't understand. I didn't think much of people who wore items they didn't have a clue about just so they could be cool. Those kind of people were sheep. Not me. I was different.
It occurred to me that this hat might be some local thing, so I should ask a local for the authentic story behind it. I was young, I was innocent, and I didn't see a problem with speaking up when I wanted to probe someone's brain for knowledge. After all, don't people like to show you what they know?
About a skip and hop away from me, rummaging through the hefty size underwear rack, was a black woman. She reminded me of Louis off The Jeffersons, and therefore she would be warm and caring, ready to take me under her wing.
I said, "Excuse me. Excuse me, what does this 'X' mean?"
She froze, gazing at the cap in my hand. I figured she couldn't see it very well, so I held the X up to my young, rosy cheeks and smiled. "I was just wondering what this hat means," I said.
She didn't move, except to say "Malcolm X?" in a voice indicating that I'd asked a stupid question. Immediately I felt the need to explain myself.
"Oh," I said, turning the hat around so I could see its front. Maybe I'd missed some telltale sign of its origin. "Sorry...um..."
"You've never heard of Malcolm X?"
"Oh. No. I'm not from around here."
From a picturesque standstill she burst into animated laughter. It wasn't the kind of laughter that told me we were sharing a joke. Actually, it was kind of threatening.
"Well where are you from," she said, "outside the United States?"
I smiled and chuckled and put the hat down, but inside I was dying. The woman waved her friends over to join the conversation. "Louis" was pointing at me. I couldn't hear what she was saying because my ears were so full of blood they were melting off of my skull. I turned and started walking away. People on both sides of the aisle--people who weren't even part of the joke--were glaring at my every step. I'd wandered into a nest of vampires. My face was hot and red, and yet it was impossible for my skin to look any whiter. I was straight out of Mayberry.
Yes I, your humble narrator, was young and dumb, and considering how "wordly" I am nowadays, you can imagine just how young and dumb that really is. So when you read about Sam Aubrey, know that all fictional characters come from somewhere. Often, it's from a place frightfully close to home.

8) What would the average person notice THIRD?
Her hand and body movement, she tends to move her hands a lot when talking, due to her Latin culture upbringing.
9) Notice LAST, perhaps after several meetings?
That she isn’t completely human.
10) What is her family history? Lineage? Where did they come from? Where were they going? Ethnic Origin? Politics? Her family in a nutshell!
Alessa’s father was an American mining engineer, he met her mother when he was working in a semi-precious stone mine in Paraguay and he fell in love with her. Her mother seemed of Amerindian origin, dark skinned and dark haired, but in fact she was a Verbati, a shapeshifter demon, who took human form to be with Alessa’s father. The demoness died while giving birth and Alessa grew up with her father until she was 12 years old.
When she was around 6 she traveled with his father to the States where he introduced her to his parents, but they rejected her and his father. Alec Hunt then returned to Paraguay where he lived until the time of his death.
Faithful to the promise he had made to his dying wife, Alec took Alessa to her demon’s kin when she was 12. Shongu, the leader of the Verbati tribe, had been Alessa’s grandfather. With him she learned about her demon’s powers and trained in controlling them.
She lived sharing those two worlds, the Verbatii and the human world, until the death of his father of old age.
11) How many years did she spend in school and what was the major and minor courses of study? Did she get a degree? How well did she do? Campus activities? That sort of thing.
Alessa didn’t take systematic studies apart from the public primary school she attended while she was a child in Paraguay, and a few years of high school as well.
However, his father completed her education in English language and culture, his method was mostly to give her huge amounts of books to read. Alessa was an avid reader and she assimilated every detail easily. She read from classic literature to philosophy volumes to math’s traits. She doesn’t have a head for numbers though, Chinese to her. She is very good with languages, a talent that has helped her once and again when she has to secure any kind of job.
His father also had an interest in the supernatural, especially after learning the truth about the world, so he researched on that subject and shared what he studied with his daughter. After she started living with Morris Giles she continued to learn about the occult too, since she read most of his library too. However, although Morris was well versed in magic, she could never make any kind of spell that worked. Morris also trained her in physical combat for he believed her to be a potential slayer.
12) What is your character's strongest talent? That which she was born with.
Alessa’s strongest talent are her shapeshifter’s abilities. She also is very stong and pretty skilled in physical combat.
13) What does your character most want out of life?
To be completely human and live a “normal” life.
14) What does your character most NEED out of life, not always the same as want.
Alessa needs to feel that the world is not an evil place.
15) If you could write a single sentence, either active or descriptive, to reveal your character at this time, how might it go? (Be sure to state the date that this description is relevant).
Happy for the first time in many years.
16) What is the WORST experience she has ever been through? How did she handle it. (Remember, this doesn't have to be an already posted bit of story line.)
Her worst experience so far was losing the ones she loved, either by death (Morris) or by demon possession (Chance). Her long life also led her to see those around her grow old and die, or grow old and reject her (like her childhood friends).
She didn’t handle those well, her first reaction has always been guilt for not being completely human, feeling that in a way she provoked all the hardships to those she loved. Her need of revenge is very strong, she spent years trying to find the vampires that killed Morris and won’t stop to anything to see Dathan destroyed. She is very protective too, and never abandons a friend in need.
17) The BEST experience?
Finding love again after Morris death.
18) Is your character introverted or extroverted?
She seems extroverted, because given her Latin heritage and growing up she is very demonstrative. However there is a part of her that is difficult to reach.
19) How does she handle hate?
Alessa doesn’t really hate anybody, maybe only Dathan, after she learnt of him being responsible for Morris’ death. She needs and seeks revenge as an act of justice.
She despises vampires and pity the humans they once were. She would protect herself or help anybody who is attacked by them, but she doesn’t hunt them. The only time she actively hunted vampires was while living with Morris, trying to fulfill his idea of her being a potential, and later when she hunted those who had killed him.
Having demon blood herself she accepts demons naturally, judging them for their actions and not their nature. The Verbatii, her demon’s kind, are pacific and unable to harm any other sentient species, their ethics she shares.
20) Love?
When Alessa loves she does it with all her heart.
21) Opinion on cute, cuddly things.
She loves beautiful things and always try to surround herself with them, although beautiful doesn’t mean precious or expensive, sometimes a flower or some handcraft can touch her.
22) Croutons, bacon bits, or horseradish?
Having been raised in Paraguay, those things aren’t part of her diet. She probably doesn’t even know what they are.
23) What is admirable about her?
Her giving herself to those she loves or cares about.
24) Undesirable?
She can be very stubborn.
25) What is she obsessed about?
Having a normal live, or in its defect protecting those she loves or cares about from the realities of her true life.
26) What does she avoid like the plague?
Spiders, she hates them.
27) What is she totally indifferent about?
Croutons, bacon bits, and horseradish.
28) Ever been arrested or been in trouble with the law (you shush Adam! )
Not yet.
29) Political bent?
She doesn’t care about politics, she has lived long enough to know that all politics are the same in the bottom.
30) What embarrasses her?
Her demon heritage.
31) What makes her feel proud?
When somebody she cares sees her as she really is and doesn’t care about it. Then she feels proud of choosing such a person as a friend.
32) The silliest thing your character has ever said.
Umm, let me think about it.
33) The most inspiring thing your character has ever said.
Same here.
34) Describe her sense of humor.
Easygoing
35) List all the sources of her income.
She had a little amount of money deposited in a bank, that through the years has been growing with interest. She works as a high school teacher too.
36) Favorite food?
Milanesas, and don’t ask her what those are or she’ll cook some for you and you won’t ever leave her side.
37) Favorite game?
Any Spanish cards game.
3 Favorite book/genera?
She reads everything that falls in her hands, as long as it catches her in the first pages.
39) Favorite movie/genera?
She loves cinema and isn’t very selective about it, as long as it isn’t a war movie and has women in the cast she sees it.
40) BEST FRIEND(S)
Ernest “Ernie” Longwood. Chance before they became lovers.
41) Worst Enemy(ies)
She doesn’t have any enemies, but she considers Dathan her enemy all the same, although he doesn’t even know of her.
42) The worst outfit she ever wore.
Her schoolteacher clothes.
43) The best outfit.
Probably what she wore to the fiesta, red really suits her given her Latin looks.
44) Her motto in life.
Don’t do to others what you don’t want others do to you.
45) Describe her method (and perhaps color) of transportation.
She used to walk or take a bus everywhere until she bought an 1983 tiny Volkswagen convertible, painted it scarlet and fell in love with it.
46) Opinion toward laws and rules.
The only rule that she really follows is that of her motto: Don’t do to others what you don’t want other do to you.
47) Worst dream ever.
Dying alone.
48) Best dream ever.
Living a normal life with somebody she loved and being loved in return.
49) Masturbate or "go hungry"?
Alessa would indeed 'go hungry' although she wouldn’t really put it like that. She was born in the first years of the century in a Catholic community and some of that upbringing has attached to her. Although she doesn’t follow the church commandments of sexual activities being restricted to the marriage, she doesn’t even think of sex if it isn’t with somebody she loves. She has only had two sexual partners in her life, both men that she was in love with. That doesn’t mean that she doesn’t enjoy sex or that she doesn’t do it as often as she can!
50) How do you see your character dying? This question is not FACT. It's just a possible future, based on HIM or her right now.
Probably trying to save somebody, she would give her life for somebody she really cared about. Her worst fear is dying alone much after all her friends.
51?) Other? ANYTHING?
This has been very difficult.
