Funny, touching, and Recommended very highly. Heather said it best (after the 4th or 5th time I said "Oh, That is SO cool!") that there is nothing in the film we can use in FL becasue it would be a direct ripoff.
But I really really want to. It has inspired some good story, character, technology, background and, well, everything for FL. And everyone in this game should run right uot and see it. H and I were fortunate to see it in a DLP (Digital Light Projection) theater - which just enhances the film for me - on a night when we happened to be the only two people in the theater. A private showing. Very cool.
Lots of action, good story, and the Pixar trademark kind of funny that isn't stupid. Worth Watching. A sequel is bound to be awesome.

The Incredibles
I've seen the trailers for The Incredibles and I have to say, i'm not surprised to hear that's it's great (most of pixar's work usually is). From what I've seen the humour and the whole idea of superheroes as people who have the same worries and troubles as anyone else (I loved the scenes where they were all trying to crowbar themselves back into their lycra body-hugging costumes) is very much what we're doing here anyway.
I don't see why we should be worried about 'ripping off' another idea, most of what we've done so far is built on something that already exists such as Pretty Poison - Poison Ivy, The Summerland Institute - Xavier's School for Gifted Children in XMen, The Illuminati - Just about any conspiracy theory going ;) Lots of my own ideas have been 'poached' from tv series like Dark Angel and La Femme Nikita.
I think it would be virtually impossible not to let past ideas and stories play a part in what we write, so long as it's not a direct copy I don't see a problem with it. Do like all writers do, read other people's work, take what you want and throw away the rest :)
The Incredibles
Actually, Dave misquoted me there. I didn't say we couldn't use it because it would be a ripoff. As Lou says, most of our ideas are inspired by everything we've watched, read, etc. over the years.
What I did say was that we couldn't really use anything directly from the film because everyone on FL would have seen the movie by then so there'd be no surprise left. Of course, certain elements of 'The Incredibles' may well creep in here and there... but the movie's plot will be far too well known to be usable.
The Incredibles
Just wondering: am I the only one who can enjoy a plot even knowing exactly what will happen in advance?
The Incredibles
No, Adam, you aren't. I often know exactly what is coming and still enjoy it to its fullest. I have been known to research shows and movies to the point where I know exactly what is going to happen but I can still appreciate the moment. Tara's death in Buffy was like that for me. It still was a huge shock. Even though I knew it was coming.
For some people (not pointing fingers) the merest glimpse of the suggestion of a plot revelation or a small giveaway can completely ruin the experience of watching a film or show. I don't understand it, but i do respect it.
The Incredibles
Well, I'm well know for reading the ending of books first...
The Incredibles
Interestingly enough, while I enjoyed the Incredibles very much, several people I went with absolutely hated it. I think it went along with what Adam implied about knowing what was going to happen in advance. So did I (I.E. Mirage coming to the good side), but I still enjoyed it.
Another thing was the visuals. Absolutly S-T-U-N-N-I-N-G. I think the animation was even better than that in Finding Nemo, and Nemo was pretty darn...pretty.
One thing though...the family didn't really seemed to be very shocked when the baby started to change shape, even though they thought he had no powers...just something I noticed.
The Incredibles
I loved this movie. There were so many funny, meaningful lines. I forgot that I was watching and animated film. It was just so good. And there are definite themes worth exploring about what it really would mean to be a hero in this day and age.
