---------------------------------------------------------------------------
charname: Victor "Vic" Masterson, aka The Witness
race: Human
gender: Male
group: None
position: HERO
descript: Height: 5'10"
Weight: 157 pounds
Build: Average muscular
Demeanor: His demeanor is one of a man that just stands in the background, and
likes it that way. He is used to looking on from a distance and taking mental
note of all the things around him.
Attitude: He is very shy, and somewhat reclusive. He was never really outgoing
early on in life, aside from those that knew him well. Upon a first meeting or
chance encounter he can best be described as “contemplative.”
Lifestyle: The best way to stay out of harm’s way is of course to live faded
into the background. Nathan has always been on the outside looking in, and he
doesn’t mind it one bit. He has a small, quaint apartment that is for the most
part undecorated, but kept very clean.
Costume: When “out on the job” The Witness wears a black shirt with a gray vest
on top over it (Elegant perhaps..). He also wears baggy black cargo pants with
gray trim. Black simple boots complete his necessary assembly. Over all of this
he wears a long, black and silver duster that nearly touches his heels as he
walks in the night. The duster is also equipped with a hood to somewhat,
accentuate the demeanor of The Witness. Black gloves of course.. Wouldn’t want
unwanted prints on anything important. His mask is black with gray around the
face.
history: The Beginning: Liberty, Pennsylvania, 1980, A Witness is born
In the cold hours of the morning that was October of 1980, a child was born to
Fredrick and Susan Masterson. They named the child Victor after Fredrick’s
father. As if the name wasn’t perhaps a dead giveaway, the Masterson family had
been well established for many years. When the Revolutionary War broke out, the
Masterson family was there on the front lines fighting in the name of the
colonies. This followed suit as the family fought in every major war that
plagued the United States of America. As was the custom in those days, or at
least the old ones, soldiers who fought for their country were rewarded. The
Masterson family was granted an extremely large farm on some of the most fertile
land in Pennsylvania. As the land was cultivated, so was the family fortune.
Victor grew up in what could only be known as a “provided” life. His mother
tried her best to give him as much love as she could, but her own self hate was
her downfall. It was true that she had only married Fredrick for the money and
fame that went along with the Masterson name. Therefore having to care for a
child was the last thing she wanted at her young age of 22. She loved the
nightlife, and Victor usually spent many of his nights at home with the family’s
nanny, Elisa. Fredrick tried to keep his family together, but he too had a
downfall as well. The Masterson family had come to develop Masterson
Enterprises, Incorporated over the years. For a long while, they employed the
greatest engineers in the state of Pennsylvania as well as in the entire United
States. Fredrick worked long hours and saw his life slipping out from under him,
so he turned to more, chemical means to keep himself happy. He drank, and
drank.. and drank. Anytime that he came home was spent having his way with the
workers inside the mansion or even his own wife, provided that she was actually
home.
A life that had so many holes only damaged Victor to a small degree. One would
suspect that he would hate his family for doing this to him, but he didn’t. He
escaped from this world of torment by burying himself in his schoolwork as well
as many different books on various subjects. He graduated high school at the top
of his class in 1998, but chose not to be the Valedictorian, as he never was one
for public speaking. His parents were not even there to see him walk up to
receive awards in nearly every academic category.
The Middle: Liberty, Pennsylvania, 1998, Life Interrupted, a World Blind
Ever feel like everything just sucks? Really flat out sucks? Well, the people of
Liberty sure do. Victor had some feeling of what was going on in the city, but
he had no idea. The Masterson corporation had since merged with Adler
International, another corporation on the mission to “Perfect a city.” In the
strangest play of all, Fredrick Masterson had all but disappeared into the
bowels of the world, as the new company was known as Perfect, Inc. Their goal
was simple: To create a city that was perfect.. No crime, pollution or even heat
wave or drought. Impossible you say? No, it was not. The only problem facing the
corporation was the fact that they had many different governments that did not
see their point of view. In possibly the greatest buyout in the history of the
United States, Perfect Inc. purchased all of Liberty, from the actual land to
the structures to even the mineral rights. Victor wasn’t around for much of
this. When he was of legal age, he moved out of his parent’s house and into the
meager apartment that he now lives in.
The Future?: Liberty, Pennsylvania, 2003, A Golden Age
The scientists and corporate big suits at Perfect, Inc. soon realized that
creating a perfect world was impossible. So they did what many businessmen would
do. They turned the city that they owned into a gold mine. Now Liberty is one of
the industrial capitals of the world. Tall skyscrapers line almost every city
block. Jobs? There are none. Even with the gigantic force that drives this
machine, many were laid off and are now homeless due to “cost saving measures.”
The homeless have more or less gathered into one of the biggest slums the United
States has ever known, nicknamed Haven. The worst part about all of this is that
the people who actually have jobs are making ridiculously low wages for their
work, while all the corporate bosses take the real cut of the money that is made
in Liberty. Anyone who was located in Liberty as of August 7, 1998 is locked
inside. Perfect, Inc. produced the best way to get people to work: Give them no
choice. There is no way in or out or the city save for the shipping lines that
come in every week, but these are heavily guarded as well as dangerous... And
yes many have died attempting to escape this 21st century nightmare.
In these days, with the mechanical machine driving Liberty, it is still possible
to find a few remnants of the way things are in the rest of the United States.
The “lower class working stiff” still exists to this day, and life at times is
almost normal. Victor makes what little money he can by working in a pizzeria
that is not far from his apartment. The place is named “Angie’s” after the
owner.
enemy: Villain Name: Sergeant Brian Ingleton
Powers: Ingleton is not known to have any powers, however it is rumored that he
is strong as a ox, as well as possessing a strong, strategic mind.
Why is this person your enemy?: Ingleton is the one man that posses the
knowledge that The Witness needs to better help free the people of Liberty.
While he is not the head of the snake, he is the neck. With Ingleton defeated,
The Witness would have barely any trouble bringing down Perfect, Inc.
powers: The Witness does not possess any super powers, he merely has things that
have developed over the years that he uses to his advantage.
Power: Superior Intellect
Stunt: He is quite possibly one of the greatest minds on the planet, and he
isn’t even a telepath. Victor posses a mind that rivals any scientist, cultural
genius or even college professor. This has come from years of reading books to
escape the harsh world that is Liberty. He also has a nearly photographic
memory.
Power: Master Computer Skills
Stunt: Yes he is a nerd at times. Another hobby of Victor’s was computers. This
has given him the ability to hack into certain systems that would nearly be
inaccessible to even people who designed the software.
Power: Fighting skills
Stunt: Throughout the years, Victor downloaded and read about different types of
martial arts. And while there are many things that cannot be learned from books
and videos, Victor is still a formidable opponent in a fight. He sometimes gets
in trouble, because he is by no means the greatest fighter on the planet, and
never means to be. He is also very stealthy, which helps him in the case that
the fight is to great and also to not be noticed while investigating. He would
much rather come down with one knockout hit instead of fighting the battle, but
will if needed.
items: Always carry: A staff, and a trip wire that can be locked into any wall,
used for capturing. He also always can be seen whether he is in costume or not
wearing a small golden cross, as his religious faith is the only thing that has
gotten him through the hard times.
Weapon: The staff
The staff has no specials powers, but is made of Titanium, thus virtually
unbreakable.
played_by: Colin Farrell

The Masquerade, Vampire: Dark Ages, as well as other online role playing games.
Where I live: Beaumont, Texas
What my hobbies are: Reading comics.. of course, as well as physical training,
video games, reading novels, web design, and journalism.

Wow, what a cool submission, I give it a big ol' yessem

(Is it just me or is there no poll here?)
I would say yes. I like how he's a hero, despite having no real super powers. He does normal human things-- but excells at them, or so it would seem.
Victor Masterson (Accepted)
I added a poll just for democracy's sake :D I agree with the general concensus, this character looks great, loads of story potential and lots of detail to boot. I see The Dude (come on fella, what do we call ya?) has already registered too so hopefully we'll be seeing a post in the gameboard by The Witness shortly? *Prod, prod,* :D
BTW anyone heard from Winter Knight? We're still waiting on a character submission...
Victor Masterson (Accepted)
I gave the Witness a yes but I do have one small reservation...
He's trapped in Liberty. There is no way in or out. It is essentially a non-enclosed arcology where all of the resources one needs to live are provided from within the commune. But it's cut off from the rest of the world...
What happens come "mini-series" time? Unless the mini-series is actually SET in Liberty things are bound to be limited for this character.
Victor Masterson (Accepted)
On the topic of "Winter knight". It has been my experience with LABN that those who register on the board before a submission rarely ever sign up as players and complete the process. I'd give him an email to see if he's planning to finish the job, and then delete him.
Shaun? Want tme to take care of that or will you handle it?
Victor Masterson (Accepted)
Did Steel Eagle ever submit a character either? I remember him doing a couple of posts and saying that he was going to, but I don't think he ever did.
Maybe you should E-Mail him to?
Victor Masterson (Accepted)
Ill take care of things with them. emails going out soon
Victor Masterson (Accepted)
For the record, I don't plan on having him trapped very long. I have it planned for him to have his ways.. Not to mention, yes I will promise it.. A startling turn of events in the series.. There I said it.. heh..
