Description: Like all Quarrens, Jorran Krell can be derogatorily called a “squid head,” with tan skin. His usual method of dress involves loose white robes, and a brown cape; also, it may be noticed that he keeps his office more moist than is usual.
Homeworld: Mon Calamari
History: Jorran Krell, the Syndicate boss of Vorgrell, came from more humble beginnings. Starting as a simple trader with an acute business acumen and a certain ruthlessness, he soon came to the natural conclusion: the best profit is, in many cases, found by doing something not quite legal.
So the simple buyer and seller of goods turned to smuggling. At first, he started small: an odd jewel here and there, a little illegal bauble there. Then he threw caution to the wind, dealing in illegal goods in bulk. It was bold and dangerous, but Krell was good at it. And had no qualms at all about killing or double-crossing to make a profit.
His ruthless nature and abilities came into play on Nar Shadaa one day, when he had to make a rather daring escape after failing to pay the proper protection. What followed was a high-speed chase through part of the Smuggler’s Moon, eventually devolving into a chase on Swoop bikes.
The boldness of this move resulted in a change of fate: instead of being marked for termination, one of the enforcers of Adair Tullas paid him a visit. From that moment on, for three years, Krell was an affiliate: he got a hefty fee for moving goods.
Then while on Vorgrell, a member of the Syndicate made the proper introductions; Krell became a full member in the organisation of Adair Tullas. Krell now took on a more active role: he became a person who cut deals rather than the captain of a ship. When the Republic captured the man above him, Krell was selected to fill the void.
Unfortunately for his superior, Krell was ambitious and saw the failings of his superior. Vorgrell should have been bringing in three times the money it was. So Krell did what came naturally to him: he arranged for his superior, and his most loyal supporter, to be liquidated.
It was a situation which resulted in a near-vacuum, where Krell became the perfect choice. Thrusting the ambitious criminal into a position of power, Krell consolidated the Syndicate under him quickly, and expanded operations. Things should have been going well.
Then Bazlo the Hutt discovered the Syndicate was on Vorgrell.
Beset by raids of the authorities and assassinations, Krell fought back, focusing his efforts in cities where the Hutt’s power was weakest. Now, with the birth of the New Order, a stalemate has resulted.
