I don't know if this is the right place to ask these, but forgive me if it isn't! I'm quite new to this particular method of role-playing and I just wanted to ask a couple of questions.
1) Is there a particular way I should be playing this game or is it more of a learn-as-you-go process? I have been reading season one of LABN to get an idea of what to expect but am still slightly confused. Sorry if there is a topic explaining this already, I just couldn't find it. What I mean is that I am not totally sure how to approach this.
2) When will Mythic begin?

Couple Of Questions From The Newbie
Sorry about the delays in getting started but LABN has been sucking a lot of the focus of the players just recently (and I suspect it will be an ongoing problem) and we have one moderator having comuter problems.
We should have already started. But The two moderators havent gotten their act together enough to do it. So pe patient the first adventure will be posted in a day or so then it will pick up.
How to Play...hm. This is a long subject. But Iam gonna try to boil down the basics. It really is a trial an error process. Post and see if it works.
Essentially what we are doing is writing a co-operative fiction. Together we have a plot and characters and a univers and we drive the plot forward one post at a time. Sometimes we work together on posts, and sometimes they are solo.
When you take all of these posts together it is the hope that you have a collective that reads like a single story.
Mythic has a slightly different spin than LABN. LABN is a season-driven plot and Mythic is episodic. In Mythic instead of having ONE HUGE SEASON you have a series of adventures that are either open or locked. Open adventures may be posted to by any player. Locked ones are completed stories. Any player may open a new adventure but they can only have one open adventure that they started at a time.
I hope this is making some sense. I hope to get a story beginning up this weekend but it is Sunday already and it is looking bleak. The "TOO MANY HEROES" plot snippet I posted is where I was planning to start.

In response to your questions -
1) The way in which we play this game is relatively simple. We each play a different character and through the game we relay that character's story.
The form is more like one long narrative. All action is written in the past tense where as speech and thought (indicated by **) is written in the present tense. I tend to view these posts as short chapters that make up the larger story.
How we write is done in two ways -
First you can write alone, solo posts. Sometimes this is needed for an intro post.
We also arrange collaborations with other players (normally via MSN) and write interactively, each player taking their turn to write part of a story. For example you might want to write a post where Atys meets Adriana. In that case we would set up a time where we could both write this scene. Then we'd fight over who got to post it on the gameboard :D
Normal practice in a collaboration is to set up a chat room in MSN Chat and write in there while having 'OOC' (out of character) discussion in MSN Messenger (so it's a good idea to download these programs if you haven't already). Then kiss goodbye to your social life when you're staying up till 4:00am in a morning to meet up with Heather who lives in Australia :D (btw in case you were wondering Heather plays Meliana).
Saying this if our timetables clash and it's virtually impossible to meet someone online to write, collaborations can also be written via e-mail. Though as you can probably guess this isn't the prefered method because it's much slower and also, you don't get the same instant responses that you will get in a real time collab.
2) As for when Mythic will start.... Dave and Kristen (players of Arbitus and Charis respectively) are the co-admin for this game and it is up to them to make the first post of the season and set things in motion. However the previsionary start date for Mythic was November, so hopefully it will be sometime before the END of November when we start.
I hope that helped, I didn't exactly know what to tell you because it's pretty much a 'jump in and find out' kind of way to play. However if you've been reading LABN that should give you a good idea as to how we write. Mythic will have a slightly different structure to LABN - closer to how Xena and Hercules are written, so instead of having lots of small sub plots running in one larger story we will have lots of smaller stories running simultaniously but that only contain ONE story line (NO SUB PLOTS).
Anyway I'm sure we'll work out the kinks as we get going *pokes Dave and Kristen with a long stick*. In the meantime, if you have anything that you would like to contrubute to the game such as Xena/Hercules resources etc, or a funny web page you found, or maybe you want to start a game like those on LABN, or maybe just tell us about a shitty day you had at work or something like that, PLEASE DO!! This game community thrives on one thing and that's the continued input and contributions made by its members.
