First of all, I'd like to say thankyou to everyone for your votes of confidence and letting me in the game even though there is barely enough space! I was reading up on the storyline and such and I think I'm started to get a little freaked out~ the number of people involved in this is crazy! and I don't know how I'm going to keep track so please, forgive my n00bliness if I happen to make mistakes connecting the characters and the players :?
So I've already posted a Character Profile for Simryn in the said forum, just as Ally suggested and I'm working on my first post. Is there any advice that you guys could give me as seasoned oldbies? The post I'm working on has a little background i.e. Simryn waking up from her enchanted sleep and finding herself in a completely different world in the care of strangers. She learns as she goes and is now on her way to L.A. to find her "soul-mate" ...
After deciding all this I realized, that I don't really know how Simryn will be able to 'find' the rest of the group or integrate herself into their company (I assume that is the goal) I'm reading up on all of your "first posts" to see how it worked out for your characters, but any help from any of you would be greatly appreciated :) I hope I'm not being too whiny or baby-ish but... this is much more... complicated than I thought it was going to be (certainly more so than TORc)
Anyway, on an end note: I hope I exceed all your expectations~

Wellllll I may not be the oldest person here, but if you want my advice, one canuck to another  , take your first post as a general introduction, and then just catch someone on MSN and force them into a colab...thats what I did *thinks back to when he suckered Heather into doing his first colab* aww good times
Getting started...
Hehe... I'm still considered a newbie here (ugh, a freshman in both school and here :?) But let me say that Shaun's right. Totally go for a collab. They're lots o' fun. I was suckered into my first one by Matt. It helps you keep in touch with the rest of the group.
Getting started...
Thanks for the tips~ so I guess that's it's a good thing having an "in" with Ally, *keke* since she's the one who convinced me in here. Speaking of... would any of you consider it with me? No pressure, I'll let you get used to my staaaa-yle first :)
.:Candice:.
Getting started...
Yes, though the challenge is (as always) to find a way for charecters to meet. For that you probably want to pick some particular charecter you like, and track down their player on MSN or just PM them.
As for who to try to collab with first, well, we're all pretty crazy. So I think it's mainly a question of find someone whose style you like. Or just ask Ally who she recomends. :)
Getting started...
There was no sucking involved as I remember.... :P
In fact, I think it went something like: "Hey, Meghan. Me and Jamie are gonna trash up Bob's (we haven't had a fight in a while). What with you working there and all we figured it'd be good to get you in on it too..."
But yes, collab. I'm sure Ally would do one with you. It'll stop her from pestering me to do one :)
Getting started...
Lol, i remember coming here in the nOOb times and being really overwhelmed with the advance in the storyline, but don't worry, just like everyone said start at the introduction and then start grabbing anyone you can off msn to do a colab. If you can't find anyone just PM us to let us know and arrange a time to meet up.
Getting started...
*Flicks Matt's nose* Don't you have a girlfriend that you should be boinking about now? :P
But, like everyone suggested before, just PM us and we'll work something out. If you have any questions about us, just ask Ally. At one point in time, she has talked with each and every one of us loonitics.
Getting started...
*checks time* Yes, I do and yes, I should. But unfortunately there's the small matter of college in the way...Goddamnit :P
Flick my nose again and I'll get the rock on you ;)...
Getting started...
Get the rock on me and I'll make sure it sleeps with the fishes.
Getting started...
You are most unfair Matt!!! I am a VERY understanding person, with a VERY MILD temper, who would never, EVER pester anyone into anything.
IS THAT CLEAR!!!
hehehe
Getting started...
Ally-
Threaten the rock. You'll get his undivided attention then. Trust me. :D
Getting started...
*whimpers* Yes, Mrs Ally. Whatever you say, ma'am. :P
Touch the rock, Meghan, and I'll remind you of some of our more 'interesting' msn convos ;)
Getting started...
God i love some of these msg threads :P ;) hehehe
Getting started...
hmm... this definitely gets the "wierd convo. of the day" award... rocks? what now? Is this another strange LAbN lingo thing that I'll pick up with time (we can only hope)? :)
Getting started...
Rock who knows, but Im guessing we dont want too :D
Getting started...
Hehe I think I'll keep you guessing...
Getting started...
I suspect that I can make an attempt at guessing, but.... well, I probably don't want to, do I? If fact knowing the way that the minds of 16 year olds work... um... yeah.
A new entry for the dictionary:
Rock: An in-joke between people that we can probably guess at, do not want explained, and would probaby hurt them for the mere attempt. Think happy thoughts.
Getting started...
I thought it was a reference to "The Rock". Pro wrestler and wannabe actor who alwyas refers to himlself in the third person.
Getting started...
as did i,maybe we need enlightening
Getting started...
Umm yes, ofcourse, thats definately what it is *stays in ignorance knowing that this anwser would be better then the real thing*
Getting started...
*sigh* You see, this is stereotyping at work here, people. You all assumed the rock was an in joke between me and Meghan concocted by our teenage-minds.
In fact, it's all quite innocent. Really. The rock is merely what I have been, supposdly, living under and thus isolated from many Meghan-rated films.
So there :P
Although recently the rock has been replaced by something else, which DOES have some reference to the workings of the teenage (male) mind ;)
Getting started...
Grrr... They completely blew "the rock" out of proportion. :x Um... right then, we need a new topic for this thread besides me and Matt's inside jokes. :?
Getting started...
Oh, we can talk about-
Oh, no, wait. They don't know about that...
Hehe or we can-
No, they don't know about that either...
Hmmm...
Maybe we should talk about what this topic was supposed to be about.
Just what was that again? :P
Getting started...
Think it was to accept and invite the new Labn-er into our very sane (not really) group without scaring her.....think we may have lost our objective :P heheh
Getting started...
We certainly did lol, on well she was in for it sooner or later might as well get it over with fast!
Getting started...
Exactly! We showed her what she's got herself in for..uhh...what great personalities/sense of humour we all have :) And we managed to lay down some ground rules. Don't mess with the rock, for example :P
Getting started...
... Unless you're name is Meghan and you're from New Jersey. :D
Getting started...
*lol* hey! I'm still here~ stop talking about me as if I weren't. Okay, I'm over the rock thing, very... witty... :) Just a question, how long should my first post be? is there a lenght requirement or summat? I have two pages so far but I'm not sure if I should post it or not as all the posts that Ally makes me read before she puts them are are like... 5 pages 8O Help is appreciated~
*~Candice
Getting started...
it should be as long as it has to be to tell the story you have to tell.... a few guidelines from our esteemed editor and Grammar Nazi, Heather:
In all I try to keep my posts no less than two pages...if I can't slam out two pages in a single sitting then its either a very important event that must be told...or I am uninspired. Your muse will tell you when it's enough.
[/]Getting started...
Just a final question before I post, and I apologize if this is answered somewhere else that I just haven't had the wherewithal to find...
Do I need to put the date on each of my posts?
And that is pretty much it, if so I'll have to figure out a plausible date~ somehow... anyway, thanks for all your help so far everyone (and the laughs along the way too)
*~Candice
P.S. Um... English Major... hopefully Heather won't have all that much to "fix up" in my posts~
Getting started...
Not necessarily all of your posts, though iit is very helpfull. You might not include the date, say, with a group that all follows one right after the other. We already know you're writting on Tuesday the 12th, for instance, so why repeat it?
Getting started...
Heather prefers that all posts be dated, but Adam (aka Nikolai...it pays to know real names and character names) is right, if they are in rapid succession (i.e. several in a line) then it would probably be okay.
We have settled on the following syntax:
*** Date - Place *** as a header.
We also use asterisks as "thought quotes" and so thoughts, *like this,* would be seperated the same as quotes.
Paragraphs have an extra space between them
Titles on your posts is optional.
If you are missing for a while (on hiatus or uninspired) then a "previously on LA By Night" is appreciated at the beginning of your post to put it all in context for people.
Last bit:
Don't be afraid, just post. The rules are secondary to the activity on the board. Posting a stroy is more important than the spelling, grammar, formatting, and all that.
Getting started...
Dave's pretty much answered for me quite effectively, but I would like to add one thing about dating of posts.
You'll notice in the timeline that all posts have a date and a time (even if it's nebulous, like 'afternoon'), so basically if any of your posts don't have both a date and a time I will make one up. Naturally, I will attempt to work out a logical date and/or time but sometimes this can be difficult.
So even in the cases of Adam's sequential posts, I still have to "invent" a follow-up time, even though the days are the same. That means I have to estimate how long the first post's events would take - and my estimate doesn't always correspond with what the author thought. Therefore I would recommend putting a date and time even on sequential posts.
