how many vampires
Less than 1% of the population of any given area would be vampires. Probably closer to 1/100%. The population of LA in 2005 is close to 20,000,000 meaning that about 2,000 in LA alone.
The World population is about 6.5 billion (thats 1,000 million for you non-Americans) meaning that the 650,000 vamps in the world.

thanks man just wnated to know arought estmate
how many vampires
on the same line, was wondering the percentage of change in their numbers as an estimate....
this number however would be different in places where there are people who slay vamps and those places where vamp are not hunted....
how many vampires
Of course in places where predation by Vampires is not discouraged, buy whatever means there populations would grow. So places where there are no hunters there would be a slightly larger population of Vampires in that particular area. Also places where sunlight is more prolific or where there are fewer places for Vampires to seek shelter during the day the populations would be slightly diminished. Also since Vampires can not exist as successfully without a relativly large number of humans to feed from Urban areas would hold a much higher % of Vampires when compared to a rural setting where there are fewer people and those few people are much more spread out.
Vampirisim would flourish in areas that are undergoing great upheavals of government or any other event that causes anarchy. Therefore war torn areas such as much of Africa and the Middle East could support a greater # of Vampires per person, as they are MUCH less likely to be noticed in these settings.
So 1% works for the total population of our world on average, during times of great upheaval such as the World Wars or other such events the % of Vampires may be able to soar as high at perhaps 2% however that would last only a short time. So basicly the current events, climate and human population density are all important factors for calculateing the % of Vampires in a particular area.
I hope my little rant there helps a little bit.

Actually, another point to note about the vampire population in LA...
After the events with the Brotherhood, the vampire population will remain quite low for a while. So hunters won't be stumbling over vampires nearly so frequently for a while. The population will increase again, I'm sure, as word gets out that the Brotherhood are gone, but it'll be a while before the numbers are up to pre-Brotherhood levels.
