making my first post...Help
Hi Clara!
I dont have an answer to your plea, but I'm writing to tell you that I find myself in the same situation. I'm reading like crazy trying to sort all this place out. There are so many characters, plots, sub-plots, etc. that I dont want to write until I find myself more "at home". But since we are both "new" maybe we can sort it out together, what do you think?

Here is the advice I have to offer to the newbies.
1: Don't try to do it all. Read the most recent 100 posts or so and catch up as you can. The most recent stuff will give you a good feel for whats been going on.
2: Write your history. It will bring you into the world as a realized character. Don't try to fill in every year. Leave some things open or undetailed to be used as plot hooks later.
3: Tell us who you are. Either fill out one of the many quizzes, tests, questionaires, or post a whole lot on the WAG or ToT so that we get to know who you are as a person (not the character) this will make people want to get to know you and write with you.
4: Use MSN Messenger all the time. This isn't a dogmatic thing, we are more than willing to chat in AIM or Yahoo, but everyone on LABN has MSN and someone is always online. There is a virtually rotating massive conversation going almost all the time. There is NO better way to get known or to know others than to chat in MSN.
5: Read the main site. There is alot more to LABN than the game boards. There is information in the site that does not appear anywhere else. There are also sueful summaries within the site in the form of timelines, histories, descriptions, and more that will make understanding what is going on a lot easier.
6: Write a post as soon as possible. Don't linger or wait "for the right moment" or for inspiration to strike. If you do not post you will fall behind. If it makes no sense, don't sweat it. If it sucks we don't care. It is not YOUR opinon that matters it is everyone else's. You may not be able to stand what you wrote, but once we see it we may feel differently. Everyone contributes and those that don't...disappear. We don't want that to happen to anyone but if you don't contribute to the community you are dead weight.
This community definately subscribes to the 80-20 rule (80% of the work is done by 20% of the people) but do not let your contribution be lost or worse...never seen. POST! NOW!
7: Have fun. We really have a good time here. We aren't real strict, uptight, or even judgemental. We can be a little strange but then again if you weren't a little strange would you have written a character and applied? We want to be friends with everyone.
8: Be who you are. One of the really cool things about LABN is that we like each other and we consider each other friends even if we may have never met face-to-face. The Cast party just reinforced the idea that we know each other well enough for there to be instant trust in person. A community like this cannot support deception in a person for long. If you are a fake person you will be uncovered pretty fast.
Hope this helps. If you can make a buddy of one of the power posters (Lou, Kris, Adam, Heather, Myself(David), Robin, April, Saadia, Amanda, Alice, Booj(Hannah), Shaun or Rickie) they will gladly answer questions and give you some guidence.
Heather and Myself are online a lot and as admins we are also happy to help you with your character, stories, and ideas. Have a great time, and welcome aboard!

Thank you Victor!!
You sure make me feel welcome!
Dont worry I'm working on something right now, I just hope it gets to your standars. Since English is not my native language sometimes I fear I'm not completely natural, especially at dialogues and use of everyday language. As a student of English, teachers always tell you the "right" way of saying things, but unfortunately the "right" way is not as everybody speaks, not only in English but in any language. and I'm not saying that I can always write the "right" way... but I try.

Dont worry about not sounding natural when writing dialogue. I mean, it could not be any harder than trying to figure out Jamie's scottish lingo :P
btw, cant wait to read your first post :)

Hmm, it can't be 'you can', because 'ya ken' in Scottish vernacular generally means "do you understand?"

In which case the end of the sentence should be affixed with a question mark :D "ya Ken?" an exclamation mark would indicate that this was a statement rather than a question. hehehhe
