Wanted: Old vampire + thoughts on a proposal.

I'll get right down to business. Bare with me.
My character has come to LA searching for his parent's killers. Now, this is where it starts to get complicated. Chance has no parents. He has only existed for about a year now. He only thinks he has had a life. But, when Matthew created Chance's memories, he also created a 'trail' for Chance to follow, one that he believed would lead him to the killers.

Why did Matthew do this? Read on. Although the 'lead' Chance got never happened, the 'trail' does still exist. A trail that would lead him to not his parents killers, but Matthews.

So, if you've understood that, I'm looking for a really old vampire. A vampire that had to have been around in the 1100's and killed an entire village in southern England. This was Matthew's parent's killer. This vampire has to still exist, or has recently died. Then, when Matthew created Chance, he has created this same vampire as Chance's parents killers, to exact revenge or discover the truth. Not sure which yet. But obviously the vampire didn't kill Chance's parents, because they never existed.

I feel like I'm going round in circles. Are you following this? It's a little hard to explain, and at the moment just the ideas running through my head. To uncomplicate it a bit more, I'll probably be making a post where Chance reflects on this 'lead' he gets (Although it never happened).

To summarise. A vampire killed Matthews family in the 1100's. Matthew went into hiding in 2005, creating Chance. Chance has false memories of his parents being killed by vampires, and of tracking this vampire down. The trail, in the past year, has led him to LA. Whilst the trail is real, the lead he got isn't (Probably 'happened' on the same night Matthew created the Chance personality)

Right, so, I was thinking of having Valerian as this vamp. Only because his the oldest vampire in the game (is that right? Or did I miss someone...) Thoughts? Questions? Comments? Criticism? All is welcome. Bare in mind that this is nothing definate, just the ideas I've been having.

I love this confusion between reality and unreality. It makes my head spin...

It's ok, no confusion at all. We're used to convoluted plots, and I like the idea of the planted memory with a kernel of truth. Using Valerian as the killer means that there's a lot of people who just 'happen' to tie in with this one npc, though...

Here's my thoughts... Perhaps Matthew's parents were killed by one of the other Elders - Dathan, Krispin or Nicholas? Whatever lead got Chance to come to LA could be related to why they come to LA as well... or perhaps his information leads Chance to suspect one of the four but he doesn't know which one and Valerian has been in LA relatively recently, so he follows that path - just in time for the rest of the Elders to turn up anyway.

It makes it slightly less coincidental if it's not Valerian himself but one of the others who Matthew is really after, and still gives Chance a huge hook to get involved in the Season 3 big bad storyline.

Just my two cents' worth.:)

Hey, that's a good idea. I read about the other Elders after making that post. I only chose Valerian as a 'stand-in', so to speak, as I didn't know of any older vampires being used here. But any of them world work, really.

I think this one:

is the best idea...but, as I'm still not quite sure on just what the lead was, either of them would work. Isn't the general consensus that the Elders are coming to LA to be reunited with Valerian? Hmm...perhaps Chance got wind of this...perhaps he has information pointing to an old powerful vampire who could been the one he's after, and he thinks it's Valerian...perhaps he's following the trail the Elders have left in their search for Valerian, only to discover he doesn't know which of the four it was, and swears to kill them all. Then...

Oh, oh, i'm on a roll...

Just a couple of things I'd like to point out if we do go ahead with the Fanged Four being Season 3's big bad...

I don't think the three Elders would leave a trail when searching for Valerian. Ol' Val hasn't exactly kept his location a secret, so Nicholas, Krispin and Dathan would definitely know where to look if they wanted to find him. Even if Val had been extremely discreet about his whereabouts, his "brothers" - with their powers, telepathic links and underworldly contacts - would have no problem figuring it out. They'd just gather and head straight to LA.

Also (correct me if I'm wrong guys!), if the Brotherhood was planning to reunite and do a whole lot of dirty deeds, I'm guessing they'd keep a really tight lid on their plans. If Chance does manage to get wind of any of it, it'd have to come from a really pervasive communication network with extremely widespread links in the underworld; e.g. the Watcher's Council, the Society of Ulle or the Ministry of Magic. It's not something you'll pick up from your demon-bar gossipy bartender. I'm not saying it's impossible for Chance to find out about it. Just thought you'd want to keep this in mind when you're mulling over your story...

All in all, love the idea... It ties in great with the Fanged Four coming to LA! :)

Right, thanks for clearing that up. I've been thinking more along the lines of just gossip and rumour, though. Y'know, vamps whispering 'brotherhood' in fear and that whilst he's following up a seperate trail. Perhaps even learning of an old vamp who was at the same place and the same time. Just something to get him thinking about it in keeping with this idea:

+++Edit+++
okay, i've scribbled down some ideas that I'll just clear up a bit and try and post later to see what y'all think.

Right, this is what I've put together.

Quote:
For the most part, he hadn’t found out a bloody thing in his ‘quest’. But there’d been a few little titbits. He’d often heard references to ‘The Brotherhood’ when he’d mentioned old and powerful vampires. Whatever that was, the younger vamps were determined to stay out their way. Wouldn’t even dare say a word about them other than occasionally whispering the name or give a warning. If it wasn’t the fact that the vampire he was looking for was probably a member of this ‘Brotherhood’, he’d find it amusing.
Because Chance was more or less certain that’s what he was looking for now. The description fitted the vague one that Steven had given and the more detailed one provided by his sire. And the closer he had drawn to LA, the more the rumours of an old vampire living there had increased. It was like he was working on a giant puzzle, and the last piece was Oblique. She had been his confirmation, the missing bloody link. If only he had a name…

Steven was Chance's friend before his parents died, who then became a vampire and gave the big lead. Oblique was a vampire who claimed to have met a powerful and old one that killed his parent's. I'll put all that in a post in Character Diary; Chance reflecting on the past as he arrives in LA.

The interesting thing is Steven exists, but was never turned and never knew Chance. That could come up later, maybe they meet walking down the street or something and Chance starts questioning everything. Oblique exists and was a vampire, but the rest is a lie.

So, how's that sound?

I am thinking it looks good. And it will time out just about right it seems with the arrival (announcement) of the Boys in Black in LA.

Okay then, if everyone's cool with that then I'll make the first post sometime over the weekend.
