Oh, dear, does that mean knowing about Hall and Oates shows that you're really old? :(

Damn, I'm going to have to stop singing...

Because your kiss,
Your kiss is on my list,
Because your kiss,
Your kiss I can't resist,
Because your kiss is on my list
Of the best things in life...

Saadia, my baby sister --

Daryl Hall & John Oates were Philadelphia Blue-Eyed Soul singers who were every frickin' where in the 80s. I liked them, though.

And I'm gonna wait until you get to Uni in a non-muslim country without muslim parents around. We talked about how mortified and disrespectful I would feel if they happened upon some of the material in there. You said they won't, but parents ALWAYS do. When you're in school in Britain and can be properly corrupted, then is a better time.

Also, now that you may become a war fugitive, proof of the imperialistic hubris of the so-called "democracy" led by the iconoclastic C-Average Cowboy, callously bullying its way across countries with erotica is not my idea of the thing to do right now.

Love ya.

Yep. And then you'll get an eyeful, you sweet girl. But don't say I didn't warn ya.

HEATHER!!! One of my favorite songs, right behind "Man Eater."

And just all know, though I don't usually agree with our frat boy president, (especially when he's filing amicus briefs in federal court to support the filing of suits against the University of Michigan for their Affirmative Action policies -- and that war thing -- but I digress) I am tickled beyond belief to have been born in the United States. I'm a pretty proud American. (Now someone's supposed to say "emphasis on the 'pretty'" part -- Anyone? Anyone? Bueller. Bueller.)

I follow Natalie Maines' (from the Dixie Chicks) statement that the beauty of the joint is that you can call the president an asshole and be well within your rights. Natalie's statement really inspired me. I was sorry to see that her record label made her recant her statement. Again, I digress.

EROTICA FOR EVERYONE!

Ok, I must say this. I was disgusted by the fact that Maines was forced to recant. Just as I was disgusted by the fact that the Grammy creators took it upon themselves to warn the presenters, performers, and recipients that they would not be allowed to make any statements during the show. This is still America. We all have a right to express what we believe in without fear that we will be punished for speaking our minds. There are numerous stations on the radio in this country pulling Dixie Chicks songs out of their rotation, and I for one think that is wrong. No matter your political leanings, all Americans have a right to work and to speak freely about what they believe in, and what they do not....

(Nudges Kristen out of the path to the soapbox, steps up, taps on the mic and clears throat)

Thing is, she can only be forced if she allows herself to be. I love the Dixie Chicks and would have gone ballistic with joy if she stiffened her backbone and said "I said what I said and I meant it."

It's the office of the president that deserves respect, not that man that inhabits it. The man has to earn the respect to fill the office. I'd hate to think that President Bush only has that mettle after a national tragedy. It's in the times when one can make a way out of no way that prove character. People who have had nothing know this. I think it's harder for people who have had their rocky roads paved by their birthright, to realize that.

(Steps down from soapbox)
