The latest I hear off the grapevine is more about the Giles series Ripper - more of the delectable Mr Head (gives me goosebumps) can only be a VERY good thing right?

TV Movie for Ripper?

Quote:
Tony Head has revealed the latest developments in the ongoing saga of the Ripper TV series.

"I talked to Joss," told the Western Daily Press. "[and] he said that instead of getting himself committed to another hour-long detective show like Angel, he'd rather do a two-hour movie.

"It would look in depth into the character more. He's interested in Giles' character. It could be a one-off, and if anybody liked it, they'd go from there. At the moment, that's what I'm looking at. It makes more sense all round and I know the BBC are still up for it."

Head, currently starring in comedy Manchild on BBC2, has also landed a part in a film with singer Charlotte Church.

"It's called I'll Be There," said Tony. "It's by a friend of mine called Craig Ferguson. In this - which he also directed and wrote - he plays a rock and roll star who is disenchanted with life. And I play his rather unpleasant manager."

Describing Church as, "absolutely enchanting," the actor had high hopes for his co-star. "I certainly hope it's the beginning of a screen career for her, because she was really good."

I have to say I'm loving the new series of Manchild so far, it's hillarious! (And you get to see ASH's naked bum!) *goes all gooey* Er, sorry about that. Great news about the new film even if I find Charlotte Church a royal pain in the...

Yes okay, No Spoilers - so no 'gossip' about what is going to happen in future episodes, just news about the show in general etc. That should be ok - you couldn't avoid that unless you decided to become a monk in outer Mongolia!

BTW the BBC says that UK viewers probably won't fully catch up to the US until 2006! So that's a long time to bite your tongue! :P

Here's the latest Spin-off gossip...

Spin-offs stop spinning

Quote:
Hopes are fading for a further spin-off after Buffy.

First it was definitely going to be Dawn the Vampire Slayer. Then they were sure it was going to be Faith the Vampire Slayer. Then they were positive that it was Willow's Witch Academy. Now it looks as though all the rumour-mongering about a new Buffy spin-off was way off-beam.

Eliza Dusku's unavailability nixed the Faith show. "There was some talk... but she chose something else, and the talk stopped," Joss Whedon said, speaking to TV Guide Online.

Ain't It Cool News also carries reports of writer Jane Espenson discussing the possibilities. According to their source ("call me Chet"), Espenson echoed Whedon's comments about the Faith spin-off, but went on to discuss a Slayer School show, with Willow heading up a Hollywood Hogwarts. But, Chet says, "that did not seem that likely as it doesn't feel right, and would most likely not happen unless Joss changed his feelings."

Whedon's hopeful that he'll be able to tell stories in the world of Buffy. Eventually. "It doesn't mean the Buffy universe is closed or that there aren't potential spinoffs, like Willow or whatever. But it does mean that Buffy, as we know it, will end. This is the last season. It's not coming back. Something may come. It may come next season, it may come later."

Here's the latest gossip concering a possible fifth season of Angel

Angel revamp?

Quote:
Angel's consulting producer David Greenwalt has hinted at plans for a revamped fifth season of the show he co-created.

It's not yet known if the series will go to a fifth year - it wasn't among the early renewals announced by the WB last week, and no official word is now expected until May. But Greenwalt has obviously been thinking about how the show could go on.

"Most recently," he told the Zap2it web site, "[Producers] Joss, Jeff [Bell], Tim [Minear] and I went to both [producing studio] Fox and The WB to explain the exciting next year for Angel. We're going to revamp the whole show."

One of the possibilities Greenwalt sees for season five is to move beyond the vintage hotel that currently houses Angel and his crew.

"I'm not sure we're going to blow up the hotel," he says, "but the notion is of them going to a place that is more like an advertising agency, lots of glass and light. It's going to be great - visitors from the Buffyverse, including a possible regular from the Buffyverse."

"I think these ideas are so strong that it could run two years. It would be a whole new show. We'd put the characters in a new situation, both financially and physically. It's all about us saying, 'OK, you've been on the Greenpeace ship saying, " Hey, Shell Oil is bad." What happens if you actually have to go work for Shell Oil? What happens if you had to be on the inside, grow up, get a real job?' I'm really excited about it."

"I give Angel a better than 50/50 chance of coming back next year. I think it has a pretty good shot."

Heading to Angel

Quote:
Although it's yet to be confirmed for a fifth season, at least two Buffy stars may be heading over to Angel.

"I think maybe I will," Tony Head told the E!Online web site. "I talked to one of the writers about it and said it might be quite fun to bring me over there [to Angel]. It's such an open book, and that's what makes it so exciting."

Surprising news, considering Tony's decision to spend more time in the U.K. a couple of years ago. He must be missing all that Hollywood sunshine.

James Marsters is another likely candidate to move over to the WB show. "Yeah, I think I am [going to Angel,]" he said. "Definitely, we don't know - but it is being talked about."

Various media reports claim that the addition of Buffy stars to Angel may be a deciding factor in the show's renewal.

More Giles & Spike!?!? Yippee!!!!! :D It almost makes the end of BtVS bareable.

I myself love the idea of Giles and Spike going over to Angel episodes, buti have been going to some forums (like www.cityofangel.com/phorum ) and they have been discussing that wouldn't it be too much for two vamps with similar past to come on one same show (not saying more due to aviodance of spoilers...)? I mean there will be clashes in attitude between Angel and Spike which i can't wait for.

Also what role will Giles play on Angel? He's a watcher, so whats going to be his job in LA? Train a potential? Joss is going to be need to be doing a lot of thinking me thinks....

ARGH! The PTC are at it AGAIN!!!

Buffy upsets TV watchdog

Quote:
Spoiler ahead - American religious standards watchdog The Parents Television Council are once more up in arms over Buffy's portrayal of religion.

According to the Family News web site, the group is apparently up in arms over a sequence in the recent US episode Dirty Girls, where a character dresses as a priest and makes fun of the act of communion - suggesting what would happen if someone at the Last Supper wanted white wine, instead of red.

"We were pretty outraged," Melissa Caldwell of the PTC told Family News site. "In fact, the analyst that logs the show for us... was shaking, she was so upset about the content."

Caldwell said the anti-Christian bigotry was bad enough, but was made worse because it aired during Easter week.

The PTC has lodged a complaint with Buffy's producers, Mutant Enemy and the UPN network, which carries the series. So far, neither have responded.

Why can't they just leave our Buffy alone??

Here's more news on the spin-off front

Ripper on indefinite hold

Quote:
Don't hold your breath for Ripper - looks like none of Mutant enemy's spin-off projects are moving forward at the moment.

"Apart from Angel, no spinoff [is] in the works right now," Joss Whedon told the Sci Fi Wire web site. "I think it's a very likely possibility, but there isn't anything happening right now. We all just kind of want to bask and relax."

As far as the status of Ripper goes, "I wanted to do something on the BBC," said Joss. "We talked about a two-hour pilot. We talked about some episodes. We talked about a two-hour movie. It's gone through a lot of things. But the one conclusion I've come to, if I do something, I'll do it not as a setup so much as a story about Giles.

"I realise that, like Angel, you can use it as a premise, perhaps, to build something about ghost stories, and that would be fine. What I'm interested in is the character that Tony plays, not some mystery he might solve. And that's sort of a paradigm shift in what I might do with it. But I'm still very invested in the Ripper story."

As for Buffy: Animated, which has so far been unable to find a network prepared to screen it, Joss claims the problem is really about the quality of the animation he'd like to see.

"We still have a bunch of really good scripts. But I won't do it at a price. That's a show that has to look wonderful. It has to be as good as it can be. And a lot of animation houses just can't contain that. So the money isn't there right now. So right now, I'm not planning on it."

Freddie Prinze Jr. criticizes the Buffy working environment

Quote:
Article dated: 18 April 2003

Los Angeles (Zap2it.com) - Next week, Freddie Prinze Jr. and his wife, "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" star Sarah Michelle Gellar, are due to head to Vancouver, Canada, to start production on the "Scooby-Doo" sequel.

Work on the film immediately follows the end of production on "Buffy," which is shutting down after seven seasons -- five on The WB and the last two on UPN.

Without going into specifics, Prinze hints that the later seasons of "Buffy" may have been rough for his bride.

"A lot of people owe Sarah a lot for doing that show," Prinze says, "and she doesn't always get the credit she deserves. She's a very strong woman, because she deals with a lot of nonsense, and instead of that nonsense, she should be thanked -- and she's not. That's the reason she won't be coming back."

"Sarah's the most appreciative person in the world, and if that environment would have remained the way it would six years ago, she would go back, because she's loyal. But things change, and people's egos get in the way sometimes. They make poor decisions."

"I don't agree with it, but I understand it, and I just pray I'm never guilty of it."

Prinze asserts that, whatever happened, Gellar gave 100 percent. "And even if she's not, nobody knew, because she commits. She's badass."

The series finale of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" airs on UPN Tuesday, May 20, at 8 p.m. ET.

This doesn't exactly fall under news and gossip but I just wanted to post it up. I've spent ages looking for a recent cast pic that includes characters like Riley, Oz and Tara but haven't been able to find one till today. (Ok, still missing Oz but this was the best picture I could get! Love the way everyone, even Spike, is beaming!)

Seeing that our beloved series is coming to an end, thought some of you might like to have this as a keepsake. Heh heh heh... :P

A Final Farewell for Buffy and Angel

Quote:
Article dated: 11 February 2003
Written by: Michael Ausiello

More evidence that this will be the last season of Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Execs at UPN and the WB have apparently put their stakes down long enough to allow The Chosen One (Sarah Michelle Gellar) and her soulless mate Angel (David Boreanaz) to partake in a farewell crossover. Sources confirm for TV Guide Online that Boreanaz will appear in what will likely be the series finale of Buffy in May.

Although Boreanaz - whose WB spinoff series Angel is also bouncing on the renewal bubble - wouldn't confirm that he's headed back to Sunnydale, he did concede in a recent interview with TV Guide Online that "fans would enjoy that. It would be really nice for them." UPN's response? "We don't comment on rumors." The Buffy/Angel reunion news comes on the heels of the recent announcement that Buffy's Alyson Hannigan will be jumping networks to make an appearance on the March 26 episode of Angel.

As far as Angel's fate is concerned, a WB rep says a decision on the show's future will be made in May. Boreanaz remains "confident that we'll have another season. I think that the show has done remarkably well for the network, and we've proven to have a [loyal] following."

Fox Home Entertainment is hoping those same rabid fans will kill to get their hands on the Angel: Season 1 DVD set, which arrives in stores today and includes commentary from series creators Joss Whedon and David Greenwalt, as well as cast bios and a 46-page gallery of stills. One glaring omission from the six-disc set: Any mention of the recent drug-overdose death of actor Glenn Quinn, who played half-demon Alan Doyle during Angel's freshman year.

Don't expect to get an explanation from Boreanaz. When asked to comment on Quinn's Dec. 3 passing, he replied: "I'm still in that grieving process. I'll just take the next question." Fox, meanwhile, blamed the oversight on a tight deadline. "[The DVD set] was produced and packaged months ago," says a rep, "before the untimely death of Glenn."

I'm sorry if I seem out of the loop on this... but Quinn's dead? Awww man... I'm not sure how many of you followed Season 1 of Angel but Doyle was one of my fav characters from the time. Loved his accent and I thought he was quite funny... :(

I mentione before that I have been reading Angel novels, right? Well, the first few are set in the first season and Doyle is in them. I actually forgot somehow that Quinn was dead, and when my husband reminded me, I was devastated. It's quite sad really, as I loved Doyle for the brief time he was on.

yeah quinn died a while back in march...he and DB were apparently great friends and hung out together in a band and @ his club "goldfingers" (hehe, 007 fans they are!!!!!)...i miss doyle, such a loyal and tragic companion he was...those were some of the best angel eps ever (especially "hero"...that relationship with him and cordy was so touching)

btw...are the angel books any good, i always thought books of any serial (like star trek, or star wars or such) were kinda like fan fiction where it didnt really add on to the characters' history (maybe and most likely im wrong)...ive been trying to track down the angel comics, but to no avail

Angel Renewal Confirmed

Quote:
Fans of Angel can apparently relax - according to Hollywood trade paper Variety, the show will return for a fifth season this Autumn.

Ain't It Cool News claim to have seen today's edition (did they queue up at the all-night garage we wonder?) - which reportedly reveals that The WB will confirm Season Five in an announcement on Tuesday.

As predicted, James Marsters is set to bring bleach-blond Big Bad spike across from Buffy.

However, things aren't so bright for Cordy fans. The article claims that Charisma Carpenter is not expected to return as a series regular.

Joss Whedon, posting at the Beta Bronze forum over the weekend, was still cautious about the renewal, particularly after a hoaxer impersonated him and spread false info about The WB's plans.

"For the first time ever, someone pretended to be me with some measure of success," he said. "Congratulations. Here's exactly what came of it: the brass at the WB saw the post, thought it was me, and got wicked p****d off.

"The fact is, they are still deciding the schedule, and Angel's future is still in doubt. Making them angry at this stage is, shall we say, unhelpful."

I realise for most people this isn't very relevant, and even for my fellow Brits it probably isn't groundbreaking. However, as someone who doesn't have access to SKY or Cable I couldn't resist jumping up and down when I heard this news and so I thought I'd share my happiness with y'all :D

Channel Five buys Angel

Quote:
Angel, conspicuously absent from terrestrial TV for what seems like an eternity, will return in June - on Channel 5.

Originally bought by Channel 4 in the hope of a ratings success to match Buffy on BBC2, Angel quickly became something of a PR nightmare for the network.

Much darker than Buffy, the show was initially butchered by the censors in order to make it screenable in an early evening time slot. Even then, scenes of torture that remained in Into The Light drew criticism from TV watchdogs. Angel was eventually banished to a graveyard slot until the end of its second season.

Now Channel Five have bought the terrestrial rights to seasons three and four and are giving the cult favourite a decent 8pm Monday night slot, starting on 2nd June, 2003.

Woo Hoo!!! :D

Yeah, here they air both Buffy and Angel at 10:30pm timeslots. Which is good, 'cause that means they don't have to cut anything for censorship reasons. :)

What the future holds for the "Buffy" Cast & Crew...

The Fat Lady officially sings for "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" come May 20th when the series finale, "Chosen," marks the close to seven years of television bliss. It's rare enough for a cult show to make it to seven seasons in this day and age and even a potentially harmful network jump (from The WB to UPN) couldn't kill the show. It survived in large part due to its almost fanatically loyal audience who watched religiously, bought merchandise, and discussed for hours on end in countless Internet chat rooms the characters and storylines.

That singular devotion applied not only to the show itself but to the actors and writers who worked on it. Internet fan sites for all of the actors and even the writers have grown over the years, tracking their comings and goings, alternate projects and even their shoe sizes. So, while "Buffy" maybe going gently into that good night, the talents that brought her world to life are still alive and kicking - just moving on to their next challenges. Where you may ask? Well, we've got the answers on where almost all of the current cast and team of writers are going now.

CAST

Sarah Michelle Gellar ("Buffy") made it well known she was ready to step away from the television grind and pursue a film career full time so it's no surprise that she hit the ground running - literally. The day after the finale was shot, Sarah and hubby, Freddie Prinze Jr. headed north to Vancouver and British Columbia, Canada to begin shooting the sequel, Scooby-Doo: Monsters Unleashed. They're joined by former "Buffy" alum Seth Green who will play a supporting role. Shooting wraps in July with the film slated to open in March 2004. Sarah will then start shooting Romantic Comedy in August. But fear not "Buffy" fans

Angel's Watcher

Quote:
Angel's co-creator, David Greenwalt, says he will continue to keep apace of developments on the series, but he won't be as hands-on.

Talking to Zap2it.com, Greenwalt said: "I will continue to be consulting producer David Greenwalt... I will continue to watch from afar and work from afar."

He went on to describe his delight at the show being picked up for a fifth season and added, "I believe this show will go another three years."

He believes the relocation of Angel and his crusading crew - Gunn, Wesley, Fred and Lorne - to an office tower courtesy of Wolfram and Hart, will do wonders for the series.

"What you have now," Greenwalt said, "is Angel meets West Wing meets L.A. Law, this whole new look and feel. It's not going to be dreary and dark. He can walk in the sun. I am so sick of this no-sun thing."

Greenwalt also said that he hopes Sarah Michelle Gellar will make an appearance in the series.

"I bet you'll see her,"he said, "but I don't know how all that's going to work out. David's done a lot for her; she's done a lot for David. When we launched the show, she showed up on the set in downtown L.A. in the middle of the night with a cake. She is quite capable of the big, lovely gesture, and I hope to see her in the show."

But one member of the cast who has joined Anglel is James Marsters, for the full 22-episode run. But that apparently will take some explaining:

"Well, yes," Greenwalt says, "because when you see how Buffy finishes, you'll realize that we have a bit of a problem there. But we'll figure it out."

Interview with Joss Whedon

Quote:
Written by: Adam Tanswell

As Buffy draws to a close in America, we caught up with Joss Whedon for a very brief chat. We find out about Angel's future, guest appearances and those Holly Valance rumours...

How Will Season 7 End? (No Spoilers, Don't Worry!)

Can you tell us how Season Seven will end?
-- Well, it's definitely not going to be a cliffhanger ending, although it's not like I'm closing the book on the universe forever. The series definitely has closure though.
-- If nobody cries at any of the final show then I've definitely failed. It's really emotional - you're supposed to laugh, cry and gasp with excitement - as well as take away a beautiful feminist message. Loads of those things should be happening.

Future Plans

We gather you'd like to work with everyone from Buffy again? Does that include Sarah Michelle Gellar?
-- Yes, it could. We've talked about our future plans, but the point of ending Buffy is that everybody feels very good not to have any completely specific future plans.

Are you going to watch the final episode when it airs?
-- Oh yeah! The Ain't It Cool web site are doing a big party in LA and I'm not sure whether to go or not. I might watch it at home.

Bronze Buffy

Is there any truth in the rumour that Holly Valance was approached to take over as Buffy?
-- That is a complete falsehood! First of all, nobody could take over as Buffy. There could be a new slayer but there couldn't be a new Buffy. There is only one Buffy. And second of all, I've never heard of Holly!

What's the weirdest rumour you heard about it?
-- You just gave it to me with that Holly story! That, and that I had directed Boy Meets World.

What's Happening With Angel?

What's happening with Angel?
-- We've got a really exciting idea for next year, revealed in the last episode of this season. It has everything going for it, including the fact that I'm sure many of our Buffy cast will be able to make cameos.

Could those cameos include Sarah Michelle Gellar?
-- Yes, that's definitely a possibility.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Chaos Bleed
The lost episode from season five? Hot vampire girls fighting? Better check this out!

There is little to argue here: Buffy the Vampire Slayer has continued to be a huge success on TV, and with each new DVD that hits retail, the slim, suburban girl who just wants to fit in during the daytime (and who fights vampires at night), is a undeniable worldwide phenomenon. Perhaps what's more interesting to gamers, however, is that on Xbox last year, Buffy didn't fall into the horribly wide gap of TV series turned games...that usually all suck.

Instead, Buffy managed to be a pretty good game afterall. It boasted clean, good-looking models and textures, a fighting engine that was relatively robust, and a fully-fledged game, story, and well, the whole kit and caboodle, all surprisingly well presented. That bodes well for another Buffy game: This one being the multi-console effort in development with Eurocom (Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, The World is Not Enough) dubbed Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Chaos Bleeds.

Due in Q3 2003, Chaos Bleeds is a third-person action-adventure that delivers a well-to-do cast of favorites from the TV show; it features a solid story and a mixture of good combat and spell-casting in what looks like a game that could improve upon its predecessor in many minor ways. Taking place in the dreamy suburban location of Sunnydale, California, Chaos Bleeds sees Buffy discovering that a dimensional "bleed" has let slip an evil force so devastating it will consume humanity without her and her friends' help. What's a skinny blond girl to do? Kick some ass, naturally.

Utilizing the honed penmanship of the show's writers, Chaos Bleeds is what's considered a "lost episode" taken from Season 5 of the TV series. Given the writers' intimate knowledge of the show, players and TV fans alike will receive authentic Buffy dialog, witty banter and sincere, longing adoration or nasty hatred for one another in genuine "Buffy" fashion. A considerable cast of celebrity voiceovers are on tap, and the likenesses of five playable characters are remarkable, including: Buffy, Angel, Willow, Xander and Spike. Each of these characters sports his or her special abilities to help them get through the hordes of vampires and freaks out to kill them.

Players switch from character to character as they progress through the story, integrated with combat, physical puzzles, and an elaborate weapon system. The game's main staple is, naturally, hand-to-hand combat, but throughout the its many levels players collect a multitude of useful weapons, such as mystical knives, swords and battle axes as well as baseball bats and electricity blasters.

If you dig the multiplayer scene, than you're in for some vampiric good fun. Combatants can select either Vampire or Slayer in numerous mini-games challenges, from One on One Combat and Last Man Standing to Team Survival, Domination and Bunny Catcher. The multi-player might be good fun, if it's packed with weird and wacky extra characters and special items.

So far, the game is visually pretty impressive. Though much of the game takes place inside, a goodly amount of textural variety pretties up the game considerably. Eurocom's special effects should not be missed; whether it's the lovely volumetric fog, the many animated textures, vertex lighting or image reflections, this game apparently has it all.

Buffy no doubt has a place in modern pop culture. The TV show Buffy the Vampire Slayer is the highest rated UPN show for males between the ages of 18-34 years of age, and as many as 10 million people watch the show in North America every month. The show appears in 54 countries worldwide and more than 3 million VHS and DVD units have been sold. It's clear Buffy has her audience in rapture.

So, can this game make the cross-over? It all depends on how fun, engaging and addictive Eurocom makes it. It depends on the show's writers creating a compelling story, one that's authentic and true to the Buffy universe. And it depends on whether the game is ready when it's supposed to be, in other words, not too early not too late. Do I think it can happen? Well, it's to argue with 10 million Buffy fans, really hard, but given Eurocom's solid performances in the past, this one could come through with flying colors.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Chaos Bleeds Hands-On
The sequel to one of the better games of last year is looking good.

When last we left Buffy Summers she was staring in a lost episode from Season Two, conveniently titles Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Skip ahead a year now as the next game in the franchise is set to hit stores this fall with the lovely subtitle of Chaos Bleeds. This one serves as a lost episode of Buffy Season Five, so you get Spike as a good guy and there's no Angel in sight. The good thing is, Willow's a full-on witch now.
Chaos Bleeds is incredibly similar to the Xbox Buffy in terms of control, interface, and look. In fact, anyone who's played that version should have no trouble picking this one up and kicking some vampire ass. Buffy can break chairs for some nice table leg stakes just as before and can use her awesome slayer powers for good (never evil).

But Buffy is so much more than that this time around. After defeating a few vamps inside of a small house, a cut-scene shows Willow and Xander coming in to talk Scooby business. From the sound of things, the original voice actors are all there, minus Sarah Michelle Gellar. Yeah, that's cool, but not as cool as when the cut-scene ends with Willow having been left in the house to search for a vital clue. Yes, Willow is all alone and you are controlling her.

Willow has only a fireball spell at first, which can be performed by hitting A twice. She learns more spells as the game goes on, I'd assume, but the fireball is quite nice. Flaming a vamp instantly incinerates him. But magic isn't free and must be regained by sucking up the essence left by fallen foes.

New moves for Buffy and the enemies are in there, including baddies who will simply throw you to the ground with one easy shove. New animations, new moves, and new slayer powers -- yeah, that's what we wanted.

Visually, Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Chaos Bleeds looks cleaner than the previous version. There's a difference in the textures that is subtly off from the last version, but it does look better.

Outlook
Chaos Bleeds shares enough from the original Buffy and enough new stuff that it should please both fans of the series and the video game franchise. I'm definitely looking for more of this one and so should you.

If you've managed to avoid discovering anything about the Buffy series finale, Chosen, we strongly advise you to stay away from the UK press today.

Both Metro, the free newspaper distributed to commuters in the South of England, and the Ananova online news service have spoiled key moments of the finale, which British viewers won't see until mid-June.

The finale scored a healthy 4.7 Neilson rating in America, and placed UPN fifth - rather than its usual sixth - in the battle of the networks on Tuesday night.

In one of his irregular postings to the Bronze Beta message board, Joss Whedon announced 'spoilers' for next Tuesday night in the world of Whedon, including the revelations that he: "will probably have a beer," that the Earth will be, "more or less turning, pretty certain..." and that he, "might read".

Wonder Buffy?

Quote:
Article dated: 1 Jun 2003
Taken from: entertainment.msn.com

Ok, confession time... while I never went to a comic convention and I don't consider myself to be a total geek, there are a few superheroes that I'm a major freak over. Back in prehistoric days when TVs didn't have remote controls, the Bionic Woman (played by Lindsay Wagner) was a cool female crime fighter, but my favorite had to be Wonder Woman, played by the mah-velous Lynda Carter.

What recently threw me for a loop was finding out how many actresses are vying to play the lead when they take Wonder Woman to the big screen. Of course, the above-mentioned Jennifer Lopez is a possible contender for filling her red thigh-high boots, as is America's sweetheart Sandra Bullock. But Sarah Michelle Gellar?

Yep, the U.K.'s Daily Record reports that the one-time vampire slayer is trying to squeeze into those skimpy hotpants. Apparently, with the long-running "Buffy" TV series now finished, 26-year-old Sarah is anxious to establish herself as a bona fide big-screen action star.

One woman who is definitely not in the running is singer Jessica Simpson. But she is managing to keep tight-lipped about playing the lead in the next big movie based on a popular Marvel Comics series. "I don't know if your everyday person would know it," she recently told reporters, "but I can tell you this -- it's not Wonder Woman."

What creeps.

Wonder Woman is a DC hero not a Marvel hero...so DUH, its not Wonder Woman.

SMG is remarkably fit, very athletic and has a fair rack as well. But she's decidedly NOT amazonian. She's like 4' tall (okay 5'3" tall). Tiny tiny woman. Not Amazon. Lets put Rebecca Romain-Stamos in that boustier, anyone with me?

As for Jessica Simpson playing a female Marvel hero...Ms Marvel. Gotta be.

Life at the Sharp End

Quote:
Spike went from big bad to bottle-blonde boyfriend, but will he be redeemed at the end of Buffy The Vampire Slayer's final season?

Fangs for the memories, says James Marsters. The actor spent the better part of five years playing Spike, the Vampire everyone loved to hate and hated to love, on the just-concluded Buffy The Vampire Slayer. Marsters never saw any of it coming. He arrived on the set for a one-off, returned a few more times and eventually found himself on board as a regular, a fan favourite, and, shockingly, Buffy's (Sarah Michelle Gellar) beau and boffing buddy.

"From the very beginning, there was a very positive reaction to the character, both from fans and the network and people on the set," Marsters recalls. "Joss [Whedon, series creator and producer] pulled me aside and said, 'Don't get too big for your britches, buddy. You are here to die. I'm trying to avoid becoming a Scooby-Doo series where a new villain comes up every week and gets killed off. So, we're trying to develop villains that go for a little bit longer, but then do die. So, you are going to die. Don't get too comfortable here.' So, that's about all the preparation I had. He once came up to me and was trying to help me understand his writing style and what he needs from his actors. What he needs is very dry, natural delivery with his writing and the writing of the writers he hired, if you comment on it at all, if the characters are aware of how witty they are, then it all goes to hell. He came to me once and said, 'Please, a little less Lawrence Olivier and a little more Tim Roth'. That was my touchstone for quite a while. I wandered around the set for a little bit just repeating the words, 'Stop acting, stop acting, stop it'."

Every year, Buffy watchers were waiting for the other nail to drop. Spike just had to die, right? Marsters himself figured it was just a matter of time. "Yeah, it's true," he acknowledges. "We villains and secondary characters read the last page of scripts first, and we find our last line in the script and see if we're going to die, and then, if we don't, we can relax and read the script. But yeah, every single script, I was worried about that." Though it was late in the game, some viewers believed that the episode Seeing Red might serve as Spike's death knell. In that late sixth-season episode, unable to coax any expressions of love from Buffy, he attempted to rape her. "That was one of the hardest things I've ever done in my life, that bathroom scene last year," the actor says. "That's probably the worst day that I can remember in my life. I don't think that I ever want to go back to doing a scene anything like that again in my whole life, but at the same time, artistically, I'm very proud of it."

Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Wrath of the Darkhul King is the name of THQ's Game Boy Advance vampire slaying romp. Surprisingly, its developer is Natsume, most famous for the farming themed Harvest Moon games.

The story concerns The Gentlemen who, according to a quick Google search, appeared in season four. But it's just an excuse for making a large number of undead beings cease to exist.

16 levels are promised, with interactive environments - so knocking a vampire into a bench will cause it to smash and so forth. Weapons will be upgraded as you progress, and new outfits can be obtained from Buffy's pals - Giles, Willow, Xander and Riley will all appear at various points. As well as combat, an element of puzzle solving will be required to rescue captured humans.

It'll be out on 4th July.

Spike - Buffy's Star Bemoans Love Scenes

Quote:
Article dated: 14 June 2003
From: TeenHollywood.com

The actor shared sexy clinches with the show's star Sarah Michelle Gellar, but found that locking lips on-screen isn't as enjoyable as doing it off-camera.

He says, "Film kissing is a whole different bag. You can do a lot of disservice to your leading lady by kissing her for too long. When I first kissed Sarah, I bit her. She was a bit shocked. And sex scenes are even more awkward - you're standing there in nothing but a sock for 18 hours! There's no getting around the fact that you're the only naked person in a room full of your friends - it's the stuff of nightmares.

"Everyone's had that dream where they turn up to work naked, but it's my job to show up that way every day."

Buffy Wins Three Genre Awards

Quote:
Article dated: 14 June 2003
Written by: Michael Hinman

The votes have been counted, and the winners have been chosen. And after all the dust cleared, the recently-cancelled Sci-Fi Channel series "Farscape" was the big winner of the 2003 SyFy Portal Genre Awards, winning in five categories, including Best Series/Television as well as Best Actor (Ben Browder) and Best Actress (Claudia Black).

Thousands of votes were tabulated during the voting period in May at SyFy Portal as fans of more than a dozen television series and movies signaled their favorites. Among those television shows up for awards were "Enterprise" and "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" on UPN, "Stargate SG-1" and "Farscape" on Sci-Fi Channel, "Angel" on The WB, "Firefly" on Fox and more.

Ben Browder, who plays Cmdr. John Crichton, picks up his second Best Actor/Television award, winning the last time SyFy Portal had its Genre Awards in 2001. Avery Brooks, who played Capt. Benjamin Sisko in "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine" won the only other two years that the award was given, in 1999 and 2000. Browder beat out Scott Bakula ("Enterprise"), David Boreanaz ("Angel"), Nathan Fillion ("Firefly") and Anthony Michael Hall ("The Dead Zone").

Black, who played Aeryn Sun on "Farscape," is the first actress other than "Star Trek: Voyager" star Kate Mulgrew to ever win Best Actress/Television. Mulgrew won in 1999, 2000 and 2001. Black beat highly favored Sarah Michelle Gellar ("Buffy the Vampire Slayer") as well as Jolene Blalock ("Enterprise"), Jennifer Garner ("Alias") and Jewel Staite ("Firefly").

Gigi Edgley, who played Chiana in "Farscape," continued the series' dominance of the award, as she picked up Best Supporting Actress/Television, marking the first time someone other than Jeri Ryan (Seven of Nine, "Star Trek: Voyager") won the award. She beat out Emma Caulfield ("Buffy"), Alyson Hannigan ("Buffy"), Allison Meek ("Smallville") and Linda Park ("Enterprise").

James Marsters, who played Spike in "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," broke up the "Farscape" lovefest, by taking Best Supporting Actor/Television. Of course, no "Farscape" actors were nominated in the category. Marsters beat out John Billingsley ("Enterprise"), Alexis Denisof ("Angel"), Anthony Stewart Head ("Buffy") and Conner Trinneer ("Enterprise").

Juliet Landau, who spent the early part of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" playing Drusilla, took home Best Special Guest/Television honors with her resurrection of the role in "Lies My Parents Told Me" on the series. She beat out Jeffrey Combs ("Cease Fire") and Bruce Davison ("The Seventh") from "Enterprise," Christopher Reeve's performance in the "Smallville" episode "Rosetta," and Dean Stockwell in the third "Enterprise" episode nominated, "Detained."

"Conversations With Dead People" on "Buffy" took home Best Episode/Television honors, beating out three entries from "Enterprise" -- "Stigma," "Carbon Creek" and "Cease Fire" as well as "Buffy's" "Lies My Parents Told Me."

"Farscape" also won in both Best Series/Television and Best Theme Song/Television categories.

On the movie side, Viggo Mortensen, who played Aragorn in "The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers," took Best Actor/Movie honors, beating out Tom Cruise of "Minority Report," Ewan McGregor of "Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones," Ian McKellen of "The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers," and two-time Best Actor/Movie winner Patrick Stewart from "Star Trek: Nemesis."

Liv Tyler, LOTR's Arwen, took Best Actress honors, in the movie. She beat Jennifer Garner of "Daredevil," Samantha Morton of "Minority Report," Natalie Portman of "Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones" and Marina Sirtis of "Star Trek: Nemesis."

Best Movie was "The Lord of the Ring: The Two Towers," beating out "Minority Report," "Signs," "Spider-Man" and "Star Trek: Nemesis."

Daniel Radcliffe of "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets" took Best Young Actor while "Lord of the Rings" author J.R.R. Tolkien won the 2003 Gene Roddenberry Lifetime Achievement Award.

Hehe, I JUST read this on the BBC website and HAD to post it here! Season Seven at last!!!!

WOOO HOOOO WOOO HOOO!!! :D :D

Quote:
Buffy's BBC2 return

Buffy the Vampire Slayer's seventh and final season will be starting on BBC2 on 28th October - with viewers being able to see three episodes a week.

The return of the Slayer to BBC screens is great news for all those viewers who were expecting Buffy back earlier this month.

However, in a change to the way earlier series were scheduled, Buffy season seven episodes will be broadcast on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays until further notice.

The episodes should all be shown at 6.45pm. We understand that there are presently no plans for late-night repeats during this run.

If this momentum is kept up, the whole of this concluding season of Buffy could be aired well before Christmas. We think it's typical: you wait ages for a new Buffy episode, then three come along at once.

Of course we'll be adding plenty of coverage of season seven to our Buffy site just as soon as the season gets underway.
