"The name "Logan" was a name that he adopted when he was in the Weapon-X program (prior to his being in Alpha Flight and later the X-Men).
His real name is James Howlett and he was born in the 19th century. Very little is written about his past, but what is known was published in 2002 in Marvels Origins comic.
Of course the fact of the matter is, that everything in marvel is subject to change...particularly concerining its favorites the X-men so don't bank on it being canon. For all intents and purposes "Logan" is the man's name and always will be.
