The Vega City Liberation Group
This small group of freedom fighters was formed in 1998 by James Gates in an effort to expose (among other things) the extent of the corruption of Vega City’s multinational corporations commonly referred to as The Trinity. The group is a non-aggressive organisation which aims to uncover enough evidence to expose The Trinity and their dirty dealings for good. The group also offers aid to those whose lives are being threatened by the powerful corporation, giving them assylum in exchange for what information they can give.
The group operates from a covert underground base situated in Sector Four of Vega City, but is accessible from almost anywhere in the city limits via a network of sewer pipes and underground tunnels. The base is equipped with several high tech computers with Internet access and network access to most of Vega City’s most influential companies. The base is also large enough to home several people.
The leader of the group is James Gates, but there are also five other essential members of VCLG.

Ben Carson

Ben dresses in a semi-casual fashion, usually jeans, a shirt and a suede jacket. He is also quite handsome with scruffy blonde hair and intense blue eyes. While more clean-cut than his ‘bad boy’ best buddy James Gates, Ben does have an unruly air about him.

Attitude:
Ben is a ‘good man’. He is loyal, caring and trustworthy to the end. He has a rigid sense of what is right and wrong and is rarely swayed by others. He is very stalwart coming from an old school of what manners should be, he is very polite but also exceedingly shy – especially around the opposite sex. As a reporter he is efficient and has a keen sense for uncovering the truth.
Background:
Ben is James’ oldest and most trusted friend having known each other since childhood. Ben is something like a big brother to the troubled James Gates and has always been there for his friend even through the worst periods of his life. Ben works for the Delta-Net newsgroup The Network as a senior reporter. His position allows him access to a vast amount of information as well as being able to expose corrupt officials. However, Ben has to work secretly, often holding back information in order to retain his covert status as a member of the VCLG.
Jerry Weinburg

Description:
Jerry dresses in a very sporadic manner, usually just throwing on whatever clothes he has at hand regardless of whether they match. Jerry’s appearance is not of great importance to him since he hardly ever interacts in a social capacity anyway. Jerry has clean and tidy dark hair and light blue eyes that are usually hidden behind large, round glasses (years of sitting in front of a computer has damaged his eye sight.)

Attitude:
Jerry is a very sweet guy, ‘sweet’ is what most people would call him, especially women. He is very excitable when he has a new invention or when his mind is filled with ideas (which is all the time.) He has a limitless imagination and curiosity for uncovering how things work. Jerry is also quite timid and a little shy around new people since he doesn’t very often leave his lab at VCLG HQ, but Jerry is always willing to help anyone, yep, a very ‘sweet’ guy indeed.
Background:
As a child Jerry was labelled a genius, he was also labelled a nerd though this didn’t bother him. Jerry has always been more interested in gadgets and his science fiction novels than actual people. After college, Jerry went to work in the PsiTech labs eventually becoming the head of the Special Project’s division creating sophisticated AI and Neural Implantation devices for overseas projects. Jerry loved his work though he never considered the consequences of his actions until one day when he accidentally found a suppressed statement about PsiTech’s involvement in creating chemical weapons for local terrorist groups.
Jerry’s life was threatened and so he fled his job and went to ground, becoming a recluse until he was approached by James Gates to work for VCLG. Now he is an indispensable member of the resistance group, creating all manner of gadgets and software programs to aid the cause.
Matilda Bruce

Description:
Matilda is a very pretty young girl with dark, emotive brown eyes and dark brown hair. She is very skinny and short for her age making her appear much younger than her 16 years. She dresses in a very tomboy fashion, wearing baggy skate pants and oversized plaid shirts.

Attitude:
Matilda is a very tough girl, she has learnt how to survive on her own since her parents death and sometimes resents other people telling her what to do. She is your typical teenager, moody, petulant and often selfish, but she also has a good heart. She cares deeply about the other members of VCLG as though they were her own family – because that’s precisely how she has come to know them.
Background:
Matilda was orphaned four years ago when her parents died in a mysterious drive-by shooting after testifying in a court trial against Delta-Net subsidiary companies for malpractice. For many months Matilda lived on the streets of Vega City, stealing to survive. One night she broke into the apartment of Ben Carson not knowing that he was asleep in the next room. She was caught, but rather than turn her into the police, Ben took her to meet James and the other members of VCLG. Together they decided to recruit Matilda into their group and although her young age doesn’t permit her to go on ‘missions’ with the rest of the group she is becoming a crucial member of the team, showing a flair for computer hacking under the tutelage of James.
Scarlet Jones
Name: Scarlet Jones

Description:
Scarlet has fiery red hair and grey-blue eyes. Her look would be described as ‘alternative’ usually dressing in an eclectic mix of ethnic and floral prints and bright, flamboyant colours. Basically she’s something of a free spirit and that is reflected in what she chooses to wear. Her make-up is also quite distinctive and bold, with dark red lips and heavily lined eyes.

Attitude:
Scarlet is a very argumentative young woman and has an opinion on just about everything. She is a devoted political activist who refuses to back down on any topic. She is also very protective of her younger brother Max, and would do almost anything to ensure his safety. Her protective nature and maternal instincts have made her the mother figure of the group.
Background:
Born Margaret Jones, the young redhead changed her name to Scarlet which she felt better suited her temperament. Scarlet made it her duty to raise and take care of her younger brother Max ever since their father died of cancer after working at one of the PsiTech labs just outside Vega City. Ever since this event Scarlet has been an ardent political activist and devoted all her time to trying to prove that PsiTech was responsible for the death of her father. It was through her contacts that she became acquainted with James Gates and eventually joined the VCLG. When not working for the VCLG, Scarlet is lead singer of a band called ‘Twisted Inferno’ that plays at some of the local bootleg clubs in Vega City.
Scarlet is a fiercely loyal member of VCLG and has a very strong opinion of the politics surrounding the group’s motives. Her vast number of contacts within various protest groups makes her an invaluable member of VCLG.
Max Jones

Description:
Max is a thin and wiry young boy with a crop of wild black hair that frequently falls in front of his serious brown eyes. His skin is very pale and he always has a malnourished look about him regardless of his actual state of health. Max usually wears baggy jeans, t-shirts and his favourite black leather biker jacket.

Attitude:
Max is a very sullen boy who is prone to intense emotional outbursts. It’s not that Max is a particularly fierce boy but that he finds it difficult to express his anger at the outside world in anything other than an act of violence. Because of his troubled youth, Max has a bad opinion of the world and doesn’t trust many people outside of his friends in the VCLG. He is also quite arrogant, especially since he developed his ability of advanced memory retention.
Background:
Max was only twelve when his father died of cancer and has been raised by his older sister Scarlet ever since. Max knows the truth about why his father died and that has helped to make him into a very bitter young boy with a deep hatred towards the people responsible. He joined his sister Scarlet on many of her protests but found their ‘non-violent’ attitude to be both ineffectual and futile. Instead Max preferred to use more ‘active’ methods which unfortunately landed him in serious trouble with the police and Max spent two years of his life (from age thirteen to fifteen) in a young offenders correctional facility.
While ‘inside’ Max suffered a head injury after a fight with one of the other boys. Ever since that moment Max has had what would be termed a ‘photographic memory’ allowing his short term memory to remember large amounts of information (both pictures and words) for a prolonged time period. Since his release Max joined Scarlet in working for VCLG, finding his ability to be a real asset to the group.
