Character Name: Arica Niham Odari-Mosora

Nickname: Aria

Race: Human

Gender: Female

Homeworld: Coruscant (née Bakura)

Light Side/Dark Side Ratio: 10/3

DESCRIPTION:
Appearance ~ At a modest 5’ 7” in height, Arica has a petite, delicate build that makes her appear much younger despite being in her early twenties. Arica’s rigourous upbringing has instilled within her a firm sense of humility and self-effacement, because of this she always wears draping, robe-like clothes that disguise her womanly figure, covering her from head to foot.

Arica has long dark brown hair that falls in natural waves but she tends to keep it tied back from her face unless in her private quarters. As a result of always keeping herself covered when in public, her skin is very pale, almost waxy like a china doll, a complexion that serves to highlight the depth and seriousness of her eyes.

Attitude ~ Arica is a quiet, self-possessed young woman. She never raises her voice or acts in haste and is able to keep her emotions under strict control especially in public. Her father raised her to be wholly without vanity or prejudice and so Arica never judges anybody at face value. She is kind-hearted and warm, sometimes to the point of naivete, yet she is remarkably intelligent and not one to be taken for a fool.

(Arica is played by Keira Knightley)

HISTORY:
Though not born on Coruscant that is where Arica spent the majority of her formative years. Her mother died in childbirth while on a transport ship leaving Arica to be raised by her father – Senator Morden Odari-Mosora, a member of the Galactic Senate representing the Bakura System.

Despite living out her childhood within the cavernous rotunda of the Galactic Senate, immersed in the variety of cultures and races that existed within the Senate’s walls, Arica’s upbringing was incredibly strict. Her father found it immensely difficult to raise a young girl by himself and so often employed nurses and governess’ to assist in the role of parent. Arica hated being left in the care of strangers, especially when her father returned to Bakura leaving her behind on Coruscant often for months at a time. In order to abate the loneliness she felt, Arica often retreated into a world of fantasy and adventure, immersing herself in stories of space pirates and romantic jeopardy – much to her father’s dismay.

In an attempt to discourage his daughter’s frivolities, Morden spent more time on Coruscant and less time on his homeworld of Bakura. He sought to ‘rectify’ Arica’s flighty nature by imposing upon her a strict doctrine of discipline and restraint, and compelled his daughter to devote all her spare time to her studies of mathematics, science, languages and philosophy. Arica loved her father dearly but she often wished he would give her more freedom. Though not a disobedient child, at every available opportunity she would steal herself away to watch the Jedi Masters train their Padawan, or the Coruscant Guard perform their manoeuvres. Arica still daydreamed of one day piloting a starfighter and travelling to distant galaxies far, far away.

rightIt was at the young age of twelve that Arica first noticed her ability to see the past and predict the future. It initially manifest itself within dreams but soon progressed so that Arica was able to have conscious visions. Over the years, Arica has been able to exact some measure of control over this power so that she can call upon such ‘visions’ at will. However, Arica was so fearful of this ability that she has never told another living soul that she can do it, not even her father.

By the age of sixteen, Arica had never even set foot off the planet’s surface. With her education more or less completed she spent her days assisting the members of the Senate in their everyday duties. Little changed even with the onset of the Clone Wars and the upheaval of the Senate. Though Coruscant was relatively well protected and free from any immediate threat, the increased military presence meant that the citizenry of Coruscant were under constant surveillance. Yet, despite the impending danger, Arica’s long suppressed sense of adventure was awakened and with her overprotective father preoccupied with matters relating to the Senate, Arica would avidly observe the Jedi Warriors as they set out to battle with their armies of clone droids.

When General Grievous and the Separatist droid army waged a violent battle in the upper atmospheres of Coruscant’s capital, kidnapping Supreme Chancellor Palpatine and slaughtering thousands of Coruscant’s inhabitants, Morden and Arica only just managed to survive. As the Clone Wars came to an end, Morden had already decided to send his daughter away but it was Palpatine’s proclamation of a New Order that finally settled the issue. Senator Morden had his reservations about Palpatine’s transformation of the Old Republic and worried about Arica’s safety should his opposition be discovered.

Morden settled upon a course of action that would effectively take care of several problems in one go. He would send Arica to the distant planet of Vorgrell under the protection of an old friend of the family – Baron Oldrak Bertrayn. Morden was already well acquainted with the problems facing the House of Bertrayn, he was also worried about leaving Arica alone and without family should anything happen to himself. It was decided between the two old friends that, should anything befall Betrayn’s present wife, Arica would take her place in order to provide Bertrayn with a son and heir who would preserve the family line.

It has been three years since Arica first arrived in Plateau City on the planet of Vorgrell. She resides with the remaining family members of the House of Betrayn, nursing Oldrak’s ailing wife Irina and providing counsel to Baron Bertrayn in matters relating to the running of the Council. She has no knowledge whatsoever of the arrangement between her father and Oldrak Bertrayn.

Items: Arica has very few possessions, a couple of old books and texts on holodisk. She also owns a beautiful crystal pendant that once belonged to her mother; Arica wears it all the time although it is hidden beneath her clothing.

Arica also has her own personal bodyguard – Captain Garim Moriss, assigned to protect her at the behest of Baron Oldrak whenever she leaves the safety of the Bertrayn Palace.

Abilities: Arica is well educated in aspects of science, art, politics and philosophy, she is also fluent in many languages including Huttese, Rodian and Ithorian. She loves music and dancing but is only moderately talented in either. Arica is also a particularly competent swimmer – something that her father insisted she learn.

Force Powers: Farseeing – Arica has the ability to see into the past and the future. However, this power is rather underdeveloped and as Arica has had no formal training this power manifests itself as a sort of intuitiveness. For example, Arica can concentrate on a particular situation or question and come up with what would seem a near perfect solution. Of course, because the future is unfixed and ever changing there is a certain margin of error, but generally Arica can predict future events with a measure of accuracy.

Although Arica knows of The Force she is not aware that this is where her ability comes from and she tends to keep her ‘gift’ a secret, wary of any repercussions that may arise.

BTW - Ally, if you still want to write that profile for the Bertrayn family then please do, I'm not sure I could do it similar justice.

Oh and thanks to Adam for helping me out with those questions I asked. :D

And let me be the first, for that help, to add a large amount of applause to this. :)

As I've been saying, I'm particularly fond of the arrangement with Oldak Bertrayn, because of the evil potential involved there. ;)

Might I suggest that the crystal she wears is an Adegan crystal, and would be recognisable as such to miners, geologists, gemologist, and jewelry experts. Adegan is an industrial crystal prized for its optic qualities (like rubies and diamonds today).

Why would I suggest adegan? It is the crystal that is used in Lightsbers...and is force-sensitive. Although very few people outsdie the Jedi/Sith orders would know that little tidbit of trivia.

She perhaps has learned to conciously trigger her visions by peering into her crystal.

As a side-note...Adegan crystals might be found on Vorgell naturally. Not in enough quantity to be a big cash item...but the occasional Adegan crystal found by a miner might float through the market. Just some local color...

I love it, Lou!! A very interesting char. I gather that the Baron needs another heir after the death of his son Myklos?

On other matter, How did you find that beautiful crystal? I searched high and low for a crystal like that for Daell...

And about the Betrayns, I just might. Will give it to you before posting it, though. Just in case.

I just did a Google search, Ally. I think I used the term 'Crystal Pendant' but I'm not completely sure.
