Hi.
To start with, this isn't the old format Board. It is based on DRUPAL which is an open-source Content Management System (CMS) which gives us some more flexibility.
When making posts, you might get confused. This guide will sort of get you started.
The big grey bit in the middle is the BODY and it has a built-in text editor. You can format and paste right from MS Word (or Open Office) and it should retain your formatting. BBCODE and HTML are supported as is this editor. If you prefer plain text boxes use the link below the editor window. Look to "Compose Tips" on the menu for help.
The options below the editor window are:
Input Format: Filtered HTML is the default (a limited set of rules). However, I have made FULL HTML available to registered members. You can make that your personal defaul below.
Book Outline is how you can make your post fit into your personal story. So you can pick-and-choose posts to fit into your own storyline called a book. Any user can create a book and posts are sorted by weight and then title. I.E. Two posts named "The End of Willy" but wieghted 10 and 20 would be sorted as "The End of Willy: 10" then "The End of Willy: 20" so this is a good reason to name your posts (which is required) consistantly such as "[YYYY-MM-DD HH:MM] - Title" and then use weight to order things appropriately. I'd also recommend sticking to a 24-hour clock
Revision Information: This will appear sometimes. It allows you to SAVE past versions of pages. When you check the box "Create New Revision" place a note in the "log message" field to explain why you are creating a revision and then you can revert back to previous versions of something changes.
File Attachments: Limts 2MB per attachment (this may change). individuals can store 120MB online (200 for admins). Keep images sizes below 1024 x 768 and 2MB. I recommend a simple image editor like Irfanview for cropping and resizing
URL Path Settings: You can create a custom URL such as http://unlimitedi.net/welcome_page_instructions for accessing any given post or page. URLS can't be used twice and the longer, the better. No Spaces or special characters (other than _ or -) and no trailing slashes. I think (I have not tried) that you can do sub-folders (i.e. characters/my-character_name) and URLS are case sensitive.
Comment Settings: By deffault Comments are allowed (read/write) and can be locked (read only) or removed completely. I leave this to each user for their own posts. This means that comments are PER POST and not in the thread like they were before. This allows you to make post-specific comments rather than referring to posts WAY back up in a thread.
I'd like to propose that we use the BOOK feature for the writing of the game.
We can do a chat to explain it, but I think if you play around some you'll soon see why.
Just a point for discussion.
EG Game Post 2
We can't make replies, have to make 'comments'. This keeps game posts in the same thread.
EG Game Post 3
In order to keep game posts from being indented. all must be "comments" on the first game post in the thread.
Statement: HK-47 is confused, master
Here's a question - any way for us to set it up so that we see, say, oldest comment first? Instead of:
MAIN POST
-Comment 4
-Comment 3
-Comment 2
And, I would also like to say: I think I'm going to need some sort of demo for the book format. Honestly, when I read this, I thought that Dave had just custom-changed the old phpBB 3.0 boards into a look and feel that he liked better (yes, Dave, have that much faith in your coding that the idea that you changed software was never a serious thought).
Comment Order
We're looking at changing the comment order so that it shows in the "proper" order. But playing around with the whole system tonight, the Books feature is definitely going to be a better way to make game posts. The Forum posts will be more for discussions.
Sweet; just looking over
Sweet; just looking over everything, this does look like it'll be a better way to do some things. And being able to reply to particular posts is certainly going to make discussions on various points much, much, much simpler and easier to easier follow.
Examples
I've just made some more explanatory examples in the Book section (the posts that were there were less generally informative, since it was just me and Dave working out how it worked).
I've set up a few posts showing how a main story arc and subplot would work. Check it out, play around with it. Add your own posts to existing arcs or create your own subplot or entire new story arc. See how it all works. :)
I have it sorted.
It just takes a while, you know? Drupal is fairly deep.
hey, hey
I'm just trying the new clothes
How can I...
Probably a question for Dave. I'm trying to add pics, but when I do [img] [/img] it doesnt seem to work. Do you know what i'm doing wrong (maybe you can look at the posts for Balthazar and Persephone).
Also, how do you PM other board members? Is there a way?
the [img] tag isn't supported
the [img] tag isn't supported any longer (sorry). But in the editor, if you click the icon you can add pictures to your posts.
Below the Editor if you look at the options you'll see "Input Format". You will need to use "Full HTML" to make them appear.
PMs are not available for
PMs are not available for now. I am working on that.I have added the privateMessage module into Drupal. It is under "Messages" on the left-hand menu.
Private message
Kaarin mentioned she can see the 'messages' section, but it's not appearing for me on the left menu (and maybe other people have the same problem). Is it possible you set it so only admins could see it?
Now that you mention it, I
Now that you mention it, I only have that option for Dave... strange
How about now? everyone
How about now? everyone seeing "Messages"?
working!
now it works :)
