The Concordat is the largest multi-species polity in the Sagittarian arm. It consists of 12 races spread over approximately 150 systems. The concordat only legislates for inter-member interactions e.g. Trade or military policy. Individual worlds a free to govern themselves by whatever means they see fit though most are nominally democracies.
Militarily the Concordat is relatively weak although in absolute terms its size coupled with the assistance of some of the most powerful Meta’s in existence means it dominates its neighbours. Currently most of its military power is focused on limiting Bakarran expansion into its sphere of influence.
The Concordat emphasises the free transmission of ideas; indeed its greatest achievement is an interstellar datanet connecting all of its worlds. This datanet coupled with an extensive education system and the nominal freedom of its citizen’s results in a rich cultural heritage, rapid advancement in the sciences and a surprisingly egalitarian society.
The Concordat is not however without it’s faults. Although the ruling council decides foreign policy individual members have been known to take actions at odds with the stated policy. The ruling council can be slow to take action as individual delegates take time to canvas opinion on their homeworlds.
