Description:
James is 5’11” in height and weighs about 170lbs. He has a lean build although it is obvious that he works out at the gym frequently and keeps his body in good physical condition. James is handsome in a lawless, bad boy, ‘I don’t give a damn’ sort of way. He has intense blue eyes, fair hair, usually in an unruly, mussed up style and is usually a bit unshaven. James has a very laid back, casual style, favouring faded ‘dirty denim’ jeans, t-shirts and a black leather biker jacket.
James has an alter-ego, by day he is the well-respected son of media tycoon and owner of the Delta-Net Empire Greg Gates. When he is playing this role he dresses smartly in well-cut suits, and thin wire-framed glasses (he usually wears contact lenses.)
Attitude –
James often acts laid back but he is in fact very intelligent and witty (he helps his father run the media giant Delta-Net after all.) James wasn’t always so sensible though, in his late teens he was quite the rebel, partying all night, getting into fights, experimenting with drugs and alcohol. More than that though, James had a bad attitude; he didn’t get along with his parents who barely paid him any attention unless it was to let James know what a disappointment he was as a son. As a result of his high profile, the media often exposed his exploits and it wasn’t long before he got a reputation with the media as the archetypal ‘Bad Boy.’
Lifestyle –
James’ father is the wealthy media tycoon Greg Gates, owner of Vega City’s Delta-Net Empire. As his son, James is heir to the entire Gates fortune worth billions of dollars. He has a lifestyle that fits well the profile of a future millionaire. He is constantly in the media spotlight and his picture appears in countless publications.
However, his interviews for the media are just a front, when not at work James likes to keep a low profile. He lives in an expensive apartment in Omega Towers and rides an expensive motorbike. Though he dresses smartly for his ‘official’ job, when meeting his fellow freedom fighters he likes to look one of the crowd.
Background:
As a result of the neglect he suffered as a child, James grew to be an unruly and rebellious teen. He was often in trouble with the law over petty crimes such as shoplifting and car theft but his family connections and money were always able to bail him out of any serious trouble. By his early twenties James had grown into a spoilt and wild young man. He dropped out of business school and instead embarked on a life of wild parties, gambling, alcohol, drag racing and casual sex. He also gained a reputation as something of a womaniser, sleeping with girls and then dropping them soon after.
One night, however, James’ life was changed dramatically when he was approached by a reporter of the Delta-Net daily newspaper, The Network. The man had been investigating his father’s business dealings and come across some startling evidence pointing at a major conspiracy between The Trinity - Delta-Net, PsiTech and Dewey-Decker Finance and Law.
Using his talent for computer hacking, James began to uncover more and more of his father’s dirty dealings. He found evidence of cover-ups at factories accused of polluting the environment, contract killings that had been taken out on out-spoken reporters and funds secretly diverted into terrorist projects.
The more that James learnt, the more he felt a need to do something about what his father was doing. It was then that he decided to turn away from his drug-fuelled party days and take a more active role at the Delta-Net Corporation. James also began to seek out fellow conspiracy theorists, feeding them the information they needed to further their cause. Eventually James set up his own organisation called the Vega City Liberation Group – a band of like-minded individuals with whom he could try and expose The Trinity for what they were.
Powers and Abilities:
James has many powerful connections within the business world and also lots of influence within Vega’s Liberation Group. While James’ wild past has given him a bad reputation in some circles, his fairness and entrepreneurial skill have also earned him the respect of his contemporaries. On top of his business savvy and connections James also has extraordinary amounts of money at his disposal.
Computers –
James has always had a talent with computers, not least because his father is in the information technology business. James is an expert computer hacker, using his talent to access his father’s hidden files on Delta-Net’s more questionable business deals.
Items:
James rides a Kawasaki Eliminator 125 motorcycle in stealth black. He always carries his Cell Phone (essential) and a couple hundred dollars. Apart from that the only other notable item is his laptop computer, essential for his hacking activities as part of the freedom fighting campaign.
