MOVIE REVIEW - The Vampire Effect

This Hong Kong straight-to-video import isn't the best movie I've ever seen. But it isn't the worst either. It features a Vampire Hunter of the "Vampire Federation" a global vampire hunter organization.

This Vampire Hunter loses partners faster than Captain Kirk loses security guys. So they send him yet another cutie-pie sidekick who looks like a moon-eyed teenager. He also has a sister who is nothing but trouble. And while she knows what he is, she doesn't care.

Enter the cute vampire royal. This guy is the Prince Harry of Vampiredom (played by Edison Chen aka Benji Law). The sister falls in love. Hijinks ensue and you can figure out much of the rest based on that setup.

What makes this film worth recommending is the really good fight scenes and some (a very small some of the dialoge) is very funny. There are also some cool visual effects that are worth noting even if just for the storytelling value of them.

If nothing else it is a short 88 minutes long so it isn't that much longer than an episode of Battlestar Galactica. And while I'd rather be watching BG, this filled the time nicely. - even if you have to grit your teeth at the bad dubbing and the inane cameo from Jackie Chan.

In all, I give it a 2-out-of-5 as an overall rating.
