This site is the home page of the L.A. By Night Forum based RPG game. The Game itself is based loosely on the Buffy The Vampire Slayer and Angel T.V Show. While none of the characters from those shows are present in the game, it does feature the same cosmos, setting, and shares much of the same mythology.The Game itself is played on a posting forum, where players detail their actions and other players follow with a reply to those actions creating an Interactive Story. There isn't very much editorial power exercised, so you can be creative as you'd like but we do self-regulate.
The game is organized into alternating Seasons and Mid-Seasons. A season runs for about 4 months and feature a "Big-Bad", a "Little Bad", and various sub-plots and we work together as a group to defeat the evil before the end of the season. During Mid-season (again about 4 months) we focus on solo stories, "movie-of-the-week" style adventures, "What-If?" stories and other less organized structures.
The Rules are Simple and can be found Here The game is free-form meaning that there is no Gamemaster as might be found in a paper and pencil RPG, This means the story is created by the interaction of the characters rather than a third party. While we don't have a gamemaster, we do try to make sure that there is a lot of give and take. Bad guys don't usually go down without a fight and the good guys sometimes take a beating. It is up to the players to create a tense dramatic atmosphere that advances the plot as well as satisfies the role they have chosen to play.

This game is managed by two special people. You can meet and contact them from this page. None of the players get paid, and the site eans no money. We do this for fun. But its a lot of work. If you have webmastering skills and want to volunteer, we are happy to put you to work! Let us know.

What is LABN?
Agreed, we have launched into our own dimension and now LABN has seized to be a Buffy and Angel role playing game, but more of an "adaptation". We are a community of friends who get along hopefully well, and are proud of this community that we have formed. Its not about the credit or money or anything like that but about who we are and how we explore our characters, regardless of the financial gain. But we do achieve something that is way more precious then that, and that is the love of a community of people. We are not just some internet chat board either, we have also evolved more than that, we know each other by firsts names, and help each other out in our time of stress and down turn, and we should continue to do so. When i joined this community i never knew i'd feel this way, but i guess now i'm proud to be a part of something as, whats the word? unique? as this. We are all very attached to our own characters as well, i know i am with Tarix, i see her as another living person.
No, this is not just buffy and angel anymore, i mean we still live in the buffy verse but the amount of research we put into this work and the time and effort shows us that we deserve to be a community of our own.

What is LABN?
LABN...it's an online community, but that doesn't necessarily mean what people today think it does. At one time a community seemed to mean a group of people who shared a common place because they chose to do so. Today, there is very little community left in this world, or at the very least in this country I live in. I am close to many of the people I've met through this site, and I count them among my friends (even the ones I've never met face to face). But it's so much more than that too. Sometimes my life can get hectic and I will admit once or twice to considering giving up my place here, but I don't think I could really do that. This place, the people here, and what we're doing, they have become so very, very important to me. I rely on it in many ways, to help me feel connected as a person in my own right, and not as an extension of the family I devote myself to. I have laughed and cried with people here, and I can't imagine not talking to any of them again. This is a unique time we live in, when through the wonders of technology we can connect to individuals around the world and not think twice about it. This site, its a special place, a special thing, which we've made and I am always so filled with joy to be allowed to be a part of it.

Okay this is my interpretation of what LABN is, rather than say what it is to me as an individual i've gone for a broader picture based on what I feel is the heart of this game we've created. And with that in mind, I apologise in advance for it's overtly dramatic tone, just imagine some deep voiced presenter reading this at our 10 year anniversary hehe.

Wow I think that description was perfect Lou! I dont think I could possibly improve on that so I wont bother. Instead I'll post some comments.
Anyhow for my 2 cents (Canadian), LABN was never really a Buffy/Angel roleplaying game. I mean none of the Characters from th shows have played any major roll or function within the game. Which I think worked great, it gave rise to all the amazing creativity that spawned 4, yes 4 great seasons so far with more than likely quite a few more to come.
While the concept of a roleplaying game played in this manner is not unique to LABN, we have to a great extent expanded upon it creating somethign quite amazing compared to all the other games played in a similar style.
Alot of the credit I think goes to Heather and Dave for all the amazing work they do. Few other games like this have the amazing editing, timelines, well maintianed sites that this game does. And I think that put LABN into an entirely different category that the rest.

Hehe, yeah, i'd have to agree with just about everyone here on everything :) those of you who went to the LA cp got to hear my little speech on how i felt and what this place means to me.
All i can say now - nearly a year on - is that those feelings haven't lessened in the slightest, but infact grown beyond all reason! This place is like a home to me. So much so that i'm even going to be purchasing myself a Laptop for when i go overseas! hehe
Amoung other things, it'll mainly allow myself to stay with you guys, especially since i'll be leaving my other home behind: I don't want to leave two homes behind if i can help it
