Okies dokies... i feel wierd calling so much attention here... but i'll just get my 'meeps' out of the way and get on with it, because i think some actual solid plans need to be made and accessable on the board if anythings going to happen.

I've been talking to a few peeps of late and it seems that late Oct/early Nov would be a bit difficult and more of an impossability due to school and classes or what not.

Apparently August might be a more desirable time to hold the cast party, and i just thought i'd open it up to the board for discussion (hehe, i feel like some wanky polititian) and get everyones opinion.

Personally, i don't really care when it is, because i think the more peeps that are able to come, the better it would be.

*returns to little black hole to recuperate from forwardness*

Montreal?? Nyet...

Labn Cast Party 2006 Manhattan!!!

Wow...planning the cast parties 2 years in advance....I'm flabbergasted.

For my money, I'd like to do Canada in 2006 if only because that is the real epicenter of the game. It will be our 4th anniversary and we will be actually living during the timeline of the game (there is a scary thought).

Manhattan is an awesome place and would not be out of the question in '07. Although if Ally can get more friends from South America going online with us, a trip south of the border for a Cast party could be cool.

And I'd like to see April get more active and get a few more lobbyists for a Singapore Cast Party perhaps...

We do all continents all places. This is an international community.

Hola-Meg-a-Cola's picture

The only reason why I prefer Manhattan over Montreal is because I will most likely still be living with my parents (due to the fact that i'm graduating from high school in 2007) and I know my dad will definately NOT LIKE the fact of me being in Montreal (he doesn't like anything French, sorry Shaun :( ).

I have a lot of family in the New York area (Staten Island, baby!) and it would be much easier finding a place for a girl who doesn't travel on her own.

But, if we must push my Manhattan dream back, so be it. I'm not one to pick and choose. (Btw, I'm liking this Sea Green color :D )

Well, for the same reasons that nobody stayed in LA city, but rather had accommodations at Canoga Park (ie, nice and close to Sherlynn's house), I would hardly consider staying in or near the CBD to be 'convenient' for the Melbourne CP.

Of course, if anyone absolutely wants to stay in the CBD that's perfectly fine, but it will mean they'll have to do an awful lot of travelling to get down to the southern suburbs. Amanda's place is in Cheltenham, and Dave and I will be staying in Rosebud. At this stage it's unclear whether the actual Cast Party per se will be at one place or the other, but inquiries that Amanda and I have been making so far re: accommodation are for places that more or less bisect those two locations (ie Mornington, Mt Eliza, etc).

I disagree. It really will depend on what we'll be doing other than hanging out during the CP. The best shopping, clubbing and food places are all either in or around the city and its surrounding suburbs. So're the casino and the weekend / flea markets. Staying all the way out in Mornington would mean a helluva time travelling, wouldn't it? :?

CP 2004 - Melbourne

Jadyn's picture

By the way, Dave... I haven't been lobbying for a Singapore Cast Party because I'm assuming that most people, especially our younger players, in the US, England and Canada won't be able to travel all the way to Asia. With no financial responsibilities or family commitments, I have the freedom to travel where and when I please...

This means that it makes more sense to hold the CP somewhere the rest of the players have easy access to and if work permits, I'll definitely be there. I know I wasn't able to make the one in L.A. but that was because I'd recently switched agencies and wasn't able to take time off so recently into my new job.

Of course, if anyone's open to the idea of flying to Singapore for CP 2005 or 2006, hey, I'll be thrilled. :) Keep me posted on that, ok? Heh heh...

I would like to throw my hat into the arena as well. Come see me sometime, please. I live in a city of unending entertainment value. And I would gladly put some people up her at my place, so what say you? A cast party someday here in Las Vegas?

Oh, Dave I only wish I could recruit more players from down here. :S But I'm a white fly among my friends, who besides, dont speak English. And the online friends I have, who do, are not from South America. :S

The only player who was from around here was Anton (he was from Brazil) but I dont know which status his application is.

So I think a South America Cast party is out of the question, which is really regrettable since I cant travel any farther than, for example, Brazil (which btw has beautiful beaches :D)

However just to let you know what you would be missing for not visiting my city... here are photos

This may lure you down here, although Adam says I'm just showing off.

Clubbing? Casino?? Not this puppy. :| :|

Basically, I figured we'd be doing much the same as we did in LA - that is, check out some of the local sights (and the Peninsula is gorgeous at any time of the year, and we could do a winery tour down there if people were interested), and travel to the city one or two days to check out stuff there, depending on what everyone wanted to do. There's the museum and the National Gallery to check out, and the Aquarium's pretty cool, too. But certainly in my mind I'm not thinking of a city-centred set of activities... mostly we'll be hanging out together and chewing the fat.

As for shopping and food places - trust me, there are plenty of good places for that all over the Melbourne metropolitan region, including the southern suburbs and the Peninsula. They're not all in the CBD, by any stretch. :)

BTW, I've had a chat to my Mum and she's happy to host the Cast Party per se at her house in Rosebud. Mum's place is nice and large, and since she's the only one living there we disrupt fewer people than if we were at Cheltenham. If anyone gets too drunk to make it back to their own accommodations, there's also plenty of spare beds at Mum's house (she hosts our family Christmases and has bedded up to 16 people there before).

Pity we're not going to be there in summer, though. The beach is only a few blocks from her house and we could have gone swimming and/or snorkelling (under the Rye pier is just amazing for snorkelling - we even have corals down there). But I don't recommend it in the middle of winter unless you've got a wetsuit. However, the Peninsula has lots of attractions - I've just spent three weeks there and wasn't bored at all. Didn't go to the CBD once. :D

Look, essentially what I'm saying is that people who need accommodation for the Melbourne Cast Party can choose wherever the hell they want to be, whether it's in the city itself or near where the rest of us are staying - but if they're too far from the centre of the Cast Party and its surrounds they'll be doing an awful lot of travelling. And since neither Adam nor Robin drives that will entail lots of public transport and/or coming up to pick them up and then heading back down. We'd spend all our time moving around rather than hanging out together. Personally I think it'd be much easier if everyone was in more or less the same locale for accommodations, which given the locations of Amanda and me/Dave, will mean somewhere between Cheltenham and Rosebud.

Sorry, April. I know you're infatuated with the city centre, but we'll be just too far away from it to warrant anyone staying there. I promise we'll be able to head up to visit the city at least once during the days of the Cast Party week (a "city excursion") - and after the "official" Cast Party week is over people can go on to do whatever they want, wherever they want, so you'll be able to spend all the time in the CBD that you want to then.

Who's going again? Can someone list the latest group of us who are heading up in August? :)

CP 2004 - Melbourne

Heather's picture

So far the list is pretty small.

There's Amanda, me, Dave, you (April), Adam and Robin. Though recently Adam started qualifying his declaration of intent with "finances willing". :P

Greg is an unknown. He's over in WA but it's not expensive to fly across the country - however, so far he's not said if he's coming or not.

As for the others - they're being pikers. C'mon... It's only 24 hours of travel to get to Australia from the northern hemisphere - not that tough.

CP 2004 - Melbourne

Hola-Meg-a-Cola's picture

I can't go for three reasons:

1.) I'm too young
2.) My parents won't let me
3.) I'm too poor to get over there

Tis a sad world we live in

CP 2004 - Melbourne

Meredith Bell's picture

Heh, I agree with point number there on that, basically

1) I have no money that I can use to spend on frivolities like airfare (need it all for tuition fees i'm afraid)
2) I can't afford time off work, I'm not travelling around the other side of the world for a measly week so forget it!!
3) I'm gonna have too much uni work (not to mention - hopefully, vacation work etc) to take time away from it either. So, sorry guys, once more you'll have to do without my own brand of crazyness, at least until next year ;)

I'm not going :( soz...but i will see ya guys here in the UK soon ;) *ticks of countdown chart*

CP 2004 - Melbourne

Firefly's picture

I have similar issues, as I'm sure you all know. What with raising two children, going back to school in the fall, and my husband starting art school in April, I definitely don't have any money to spare for airfare that far away, and even if I did, I'm not sure I could be away from my sons for a whole week. Sorry, guys.

Since Heather and I are so incredibly wealthy we are likely going to be the only peole to attend every Cast party. I know Robin has more money than hobbies and he too is a likely contender for every one...but a large portion of our membership can't afford the money or the time to make it to a cast party.

I would love to pick one place and always do it there but the truth is that not every one can do that either...so the cast party travels. We love to see where everyone lives and we get a great kick outta hugging out teammates rather than typing emoticons at them.

Don't kick yourselves or feel like you are letting us down if you can't make it. Thats okay. Just keep active and sooner or later we WILL get around to having a cast party in your back yard...even if its is just Heather and me and a six-pack of beer.

CP 2004 - Melbourne

Blackthorn's picture

I can afford to go easily, the only problem is my parents agreeing... so I guess it depends on if I have moved out by then or not.

I just got back from my First 2 day Trip to L.A. with my Dad for some Business stuff. Sadly diddent do any sight seeing or anything but I did see a Ferrari Enzo!!! The valet that parked it curbed it which made me want to cry  I got pics of It if anyone wants LOL.

WEEE! Hey wow! i had a novel thought! considering i actually LIVE down here where the cp is coming, i might jump in again! hehe.

I'll happily be peeps TD (taxi driver) when they come down. I'll DEFINATELY be getting the whole week - if not two weeks - off work, and i'm sure they'll give it to me to (i'm a hard working and loved worker  )

a thought struck me that considering that where ever we hold the cast party (which i'm all for rosebud :D HURRAH!) i'll otherwise be perminantly based at my home in cheltenham (when i'm not pissing it all up with you guys at heathers  ) which is a 20 - 40min drive from the city, and right smack bam near two of the most poplular and biggest shopping centres (aside from those in the city)

the point of my ramble here is that theres a motel not 2min from my house. if peeps got themselves booked in there, i could easily drive all of us to rosebud or where ever the hell we went! cos i'll always otherwise be right here in Chelt! Just seems convenient, cos i am close to the city and tis roughly only an hour to rosebud - but it's an hour i'll be having to travel either way.

Just my rambling... whether it's only me i'm making sense to or not is an entirely different matter

but yes! there you go. the other aussie has inputted  finally

he he-he, he... heh (ps. that was nervous laughter. and now i am about to smoothly continue into my sudden realisation, as follows....)

is it just me or is this year just FLYING by? i reckon i'm gonig to be 97 and DEAD by tomorrow at this rate! It's already half way through friggen march! nearly APRIL 8O I'm going to be fragging 20WENTY soon 8O 8O !!!! (give me a mo, i AM going somewhere with this that makes it all relevant...)

so um... yeah, i just counted that, well, August 8th is the planned cp date, and that's like... (counts... (slooowly)) ooh fuck 8O under 5 months away... already more than HALF of that has passed us by of this year!

so yes, ANYWHOS! hehe, anyone know exactly where would be the best place that you'd like to lodge up? I think there's enough info here debated and what not, but if you need more, don't hesitate to ask, cos yeah... - as funny as it'd be - i'm sure those of you who are coming would prefer not to sleep down under in the great australian gutter :D

hurrah!

um... yeah, i'm done now, hehe

hehe :D

no pressure, just letting you know :)

Change of dates...

CryingKnight's picture

This probably won't interest many of you but the Melbourne Cast party has now changed dates. (Adam dropped out so we could pick another date with more agreeable weather)

As a result if any of you do feel like attending then the CP will now be in October. I don't have exact dates but it will be either 09.10.04 - 10.10.04 or 16.10.04 - 17.10.04 (Heather hasn't confirmed which...)

CP 2004 - Melbourne

Heather's picture

That's because Heather's not fussed. :D

I asked Amanda if she had a preference for either weekend and she's flexible too, so it all depends on whether I get a response from the e-mail I sent to April.

I know she was doubtful about being able to get leave from her new job in August, so hopefully the extra couple of months will help out there - she won't be quite so new when she asks for leave. If she responds to say one or the other weekend is preferable for her, we'll go with that.

If she can't make it  or is also not fussed, then maybe we should go for the 16th/17th as the actual CP date per se - since that's the closest to Dave's and my wedding anniversary. 8)

*sings* We're leaving on a jet plane...

Well guys, Dave and I are packing to go on our plane this arvo. Anyone who wants to collab with either of us for the next three weeks (apart from Robin or Amanda) - too bad. We'll have extremely limited - if any - internet access while in Australia.

We'll take lots of pictures and post them on the board when we get back, and you'll all be envious that you didn't get to go to the 2004 Melbourne LABN Cast Party. :D
