Ok, this is like Movie Recommendations, except is for music. If you have that particular CD or albumn that you feel everybody else just must know about, for good or bad reasons, post it!
I, myself, bought Longview's Mercury yesterday. 8O Oh, man it is sooo cool! I totally recommend it, in fact i insist you go out and buy it! Think of Cold Play meets Travis with a bit of U2 thrown in for good measure and you can't go far wrong!
I don't know if they've gone abroad yet, but if you live in the UK then it's well worth the £10.99 at HMV (£8.49 for me...yay student discount!). And what's even more cool is that they come from down south here. One of them even comes from Eastleigh! Just goes to show I wasn't the only decent thing to come from the South of England :P

Besides the invasion of Normandy, of course...*runs away and hides from the big politically correct/diplomatic/you get the idea stick* ;) hehe...

OK I really want an honest show of hands here. How many people have actually gone and DLed the music people suggest after reading it? Im not knocking the thread or anything, I just want to know

I admit to sometimes hitting Itunes to 'sample' songs or using Amazon's preview feature.
Unless it was Adam who made the recommendation that is (;) j/k adam)

Well, I finally managed to get hold of Delta Goodrem's Innocent Eyes. You can't get it in the US because she's an Aussie artist, and unless it's Kylie Minogue none of you guys have heard of Aussie artists. So I picked it up on my recent foray Down Under.
She's already got four hits in Aus. with Born to Try, Innocent Eyes, Lost Without You and Predictable. But having listened to the album, the rest of the songs are just as good. Dunno if you'll be able to find any of her stuff on the internet yet - but she's too good to stay locked inside Australia much longer. :)
Music Recommendations
Problem is, I watch this little soap called Neighbours, and almost every song Delta's released was sung on there first - hence there is a HUGE cheese factor associated with them all :? Other than that she has a great voice, but I have yet to buy the album ;)
Music Recommendations
I have a selection of Delta Goodrem songs in MP3 format if anyone is interested. It would have to be for a limited time however since MP3s take up a lot of bandwidth...but I can make them available privatley if anyone asks

Okay, got a hell of a lot of new albums recently. Lets go:
Blink 182's new album (self-titles) is really quite good. I think I was expecting something a little more...I don't know, Sum41ish maybe. Something a little more goofy like their previous albums. But, despite my expectations being crushed, its actually rather groovy. Surprisingly bleak and depressing in places for Blink (imho)...which is probably why I like it hehe. Some tracks do sound quite similar, but its all good...so go buy it :)
(Although you do get the impression the guy had a bad experience with a girl named 'Holly'....)
Also got Box Car Racer's album. Its good, I like it. Even if it DOES sound nearly identical to Blink (I wonder why? :P ). Again, quite depressing, again probably why I like it. But yeah, all good.
ummm...lets see...
Billy Talent. I know somebody recommended it and I'm sorry, but I really didn't take to this at all. I loved Try Honesty; thought it was an awesome track, so picked up the rest of the album at last. But...I don't know. I guess that kind of weird... screeching probably isn't the best word but its the only one I can think of, in track one and two just really turned me off. The rest of it was pretty average, with nothing besides Try Honesty grabbing me at all. *shrugs*
On the same note: Funeral For A Friend....uuuuuugh. Awful stuff. I thought the screeching (?) on Billy Talent was bad, this is a thousand times worse. Got halfway through track two, turned it off and deleted it off my pc. Awful, awful stuff. Not recommended. Its a shame as well, because besides the screeching they have a very Lost Prophets feel that could have been good...
Back to the good stuff: The Ataris' So Long Astoria. Really, really good this I highly recommend it. It may not grab you at first (besides the awesome cover of Boys Of Summer) but it grows on you big time. Saddest Song is just fantastic (and, as the name implies, sad), and the rest of the album's great to boot.
Jimmy Eats World's Static Prevails and Bleed American. Considering the two albums are so different you'd be forgiven for thinking they're from two different bands. Static Prevails is just an enjoyable album to listen to (tracks such as Rockstar being great). Bleed American is good in some places (The Middle, Sweetness, If You Don't Don't, Get It Faster to name but a few) but can be a bit dirgy in places (I usually skip Your House, Hear You Me and the last track of the album My Sundown). Still both good though.
Okay, almost finished folks.
Foo Fighters. Simply incredible. I have all their albums (self-titled, One By One, The Colour And The Shape and There Is Nothing Left To Lose) and with the exception of The Colour And The Shape are all really, really good. My fav is probably There Is Nothing Left To Lose. I love all the tracks on this one and it simply starts off with a rocker and goes on from there until M.I.A at the end. One By One comes in at a very close second, with the first just behind that. Both also very good. Lots of angst-ridden head-banging lyrics :) The Colour And The Shape though...I don't know, just never really took to it. There's a couple of good tracks on it, but for the most part is a lot of screeching down a mic which I don't like that much at all.
And, lastly, I'd like to plug The Neon Handshake by Hell is for Heroes once more. This has stayed more or less constantly in my CD player since I got it. Its just amazing, with a track to suit my every mood (usually unhappy...but I Can Climb Mountains and You Drove Me To It are good for cheering people up, the former reminding yourself you can do whatever you want and be just as good, if not better, that others, the latter...well, the lyrics go "They won't break me". 'Nuff said :) ). Go buy it, 'cos I want this lot to be reall successful hehe.
Okay, I'm spent.

More recommendationness:
The Ataris - End is Forever. Not bad, not bad. Not amazingly good, not as good as So Long Astoria, but a nice listen to anyway.
A New Found Glory - Catalyst and Sticks And Stones: Ehhh...didn't like either very much. Used to really like them a few years ago, but now they seem incredibly 'childish'. Think American Hi-Fi blended with Sum 41. Not a good mix imo :? You can buy better. Like Blink 182, or Hell is for Heroes :)
Finally, Finch - What It Is To Burn: Got on a whim, and I like. Again, not an album for those with 'lighthearted' tastes in music, but its not ridiculously heavy (with the possibly exception of Project Mayhem, which is the only track I don't like). Best thing about this one, Jamie would recommend it too!
Music Recommendations
just got keanes album and its amazing. they are coldplay meets travis travis with just a pinch of radio head, they have a long glorious future ahead of them (gits!!!!!!!!!!)
Music Recommendations
Some stuff I picked up over xmas:
Kasabian - Kasabian: One of the best British acts to emerge recently. A great new flavour of rock with beats to tap your foot to as much as head-bang, and some superbly catchy lyrics.
U2 - How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb: 8O Wow, I like this album. Don't let the name fool you. U2 are always a great band, and in this album you can see their progression from All That You Can't Leave Behind but with much more of a feel of their earlier stuff. Plus Vertigo just rocks :D
On the above advice I also got the Keane album, and I'm liking that a hell of a lot too. Very chilled.
Music Recommendations
I can totally second the recommendation for Kasabian, I got this album when it first came out and I still love it.
Also I'd like to recommend The Zutons album - Who Killed the Zutons. Another really funky British band that emerged last year - I think they're gonna be big in 2005. Their style of music is quick paced, kinda quirky - a great mix of sax and guitar sounds.
O by Damien Rice - DR's sound can be kinda suicidal at times but the music is so gentle and relaxing - great for lazy sunday afternoons or for a 'romantic' setting
Songs About Jane by Maroon 5 - I've really loved Maroon 5 since they emerged on the pop scene, I think this album just gets better and better the more you listen to it. There's a great mix of love songs and the classic tunes that the industry seems to be pouring out by the thousands but Maroon 5 always seem to do it a bit different and so much better than the rest.
One last recom - the new album by Norah Jones Feels like Home - I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE! this album. That's all there is to say - check it out.
Music Recommendations
I recently got two new albums for my birthday that I want to recommend.
First, Amy Winehouse - Frank. I've been listening to this all week it's just such a good album! The tunes are a mix of soulful sultry vocals, sassy lyrics and jazzy laid back beats. My fave tracks have been F**k Me Pumps - which is a really brutal attack on party girls who are famous simply for sleeping with footballers  In My Bed, What is it About Men Help Yourself and Amy, Amy, Amy - but really there's not one track that I don't like - if you're into jazz/soul/r&b - but with a twist, check it out.
Second, Rufus Wainwright - Want One. Taking a break from Amy, I managed to discover this jem of an album. I'd not heard Rufus before but I heard Oh What a World on the radio and thought it was so different - think the Bolero with a pop twist - that I just had to check it out. The rest of the album is just as cool, the only way to describe it is a lush pop operetta, it has everything, violins, cellos, guitars, flutes piano - even a tuba! But surprisingly it all works very well, the vocal arrangements, orchestration and sheer scope of the music are really truly breathtaking, if you like music that's different from the mainstream I'd recommend you give the album ago.

Hey, all you parents of young children, They Might Be Giants have just put out their second multi-media product for kids! It's called Here Come the ABCs.
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B0007MU1K0/qid=1109379745/sr=1-1/ref=sr_1_1/002-8508359-8410416?v=glance&s=dvd
Yes, the Giants sing the ABCs, teaching us all about letters and words using puppets, animation, and video. Over 40 minutes of music make this a great value for only $9.00 from Amazon.
And it's not just for kids! It's for us adults, too. :D
{H - I moved this to 'Music Recommendations' from 'Movie Recommendations'}

Ok, I haven't posted on here in what feels like a decade, but I am awake early and came across this thread and felt like throwing down my two-cents worth of reviews...
In the month of July I am going to see Beck in LA. His new album is called Guero and I can't wait to see him. The only thing better than seeing him perform this new album would be to see the Midnite Vultures tour again.
And who is not excited for May 17th to hurry up and get here so we can all rush out and buy System of a Down's Mesmerize?! I can't wait until they post more tour dates. Yes, I love them and worship at their feet, but I am not going to travel to Minneapolis to see them... well, maybe not... I have seen them three times already and if they were only touring in Minnesota, then I would just have to suck it up and travel afar. And can you believe that they are touring with Mars Volta? They are like the trippiest music out there right now. I have only heard Frances the Mute, but I am dying to hear more.
And for you country fans (and non-country fans alike, because I am not a huge fan)... has anyone heard of Cowboy Troy? A black hip-hop cowboy! I love it. His first album Loco Motive will also be released on May 17th.
Alrighty, I'll be back to let you know what I think of the new and upcoming releases! :D
Music Recommendations
I have heard of Cowboy Troy...of course. (I never post here because I am a "country girl" much to the chagrin of many people in my life. Sorry, what can I say? There's a bit of the "good ole redneck" in me, people.)
If you like Cowboy Troy and his very unique take on country, give Big and Rich a listen. They are so...different...and prove that sometimes different really is cool. They are part of a movement/confederation called the "music Mafia" as is Cowboy Troy. I'm pretty sure that Troy appears on their album.
Big and Rich's big breakout hit was a song called "Save a Horse, Ride a Cowboy" just to give you an idea of what we're talking about here. At times fun and funny, while at others deep and touching, this Big and Rich album is really amazing.

The soundtrack for Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith is out. John Williams is always the perfect choice for getting into the mood before the new movie comes out. He's been a tradition in my household since '77.
Recommended.
Re: Current Listenings
Have to second these recommendations. I have the Zutons' album and it is really good high-energy unique music that sort of infiltrates your mind. Well worth the listen to.
NIN is always good in my opinion. They have had stronger albums but they never make a bad one.
I can't stomach Ramstein...sorry. it does little for me.
Recently Jean mentioned the new System of a Down album so I downloaded the whole thing (God bless you, BitTorrent). It is okay with a few listenable bits on it, but overall I found it to be a little too overblown for my taste. I'll keep it in my rotation for a while and see if it grows on me, but I have to say on first listen, unless you are a hard-core fan, I'd skip it.
Du hast mich gefragt und ich hab' nichts gesagt!
Ramstein is more entertainment than musical enjoyment. Mediocre industrial over ridiculous lyrics. They really are hillarious when you can understand what they're singing. Knowing german is neat.
I'll have to check out the new System, though I'm still working on With Teeth.
Music Recommendations
I can't wait to go shopping tomorrow. I had no idea the new NIN cd was out. Where have I been? But then again, I didn't find out they were performing here in Vegas until three days after the show sold out. Though, in all fairness the rumor was they sold out in eight minutes. Damn you, Trent!! :x
With Teeth preview
Head over to http://www.myspace.com/ninofficial to hear a preview of the new NIN album. It's quite...different, so you might want to give it a listen before shelling out your $20.

Damn you, Trent, indeed. The mad bastard's playing clubs. This insanity extends to playing two shows at one venue in the southeast: the Tabernacle in Atlanta. This place is tiny, and a good 400 miles away from his largest Southern fan base: Florida. He apparently thinks that the Stones and the Cure stopped playing clubs and went exclusively to stadium tours on a whim. Fact is, none of our mega-bands could play an announced club show even if they wanted. If it can't hold at least a grand, there will be blood. Honestly, Trent, this is a good way to get someone at least hospitalized, if not killed.
Cooky prick.
Music Recommendations
I agree... that really is not a smart move... is he even considering the fans?! I went to their site and checked out the Tour Dates. Now, I am exaggerating a bit here, but what is up with bands that play in America for what seems like a month or two, and then go to Europe and play for like, six months?! I understand that after you have released a few albums spanning a great number of years, you will have built up a huge fan base all over the world, but come on, can I please see my favorite band without having to travel to the moon and back?
Thanks for the myspace link to the new NIN cd. I will check it out next week while I am home on medical leave.
Music Recommendations
My friend Kelly and I have named the Finnish metal band Nightwish as our new favorite band :P Though, they sound so familiar. I'm thinking that Christoffer probably told me about them and me, with my "amazing" memory, forgot them.
Music Recommendations
The new Flogging Molly project Within a Mile of Home is absolutely worth a listen, if not blind purchase. More on the traditional irish side of their sound that previous ventures, especially Drunken Lullabies.
Music Recommendations
Right now, I'm really into At The Drive-In. The album in-CASINO-out is like a soundtrack for a movie that was never made. Between that and Acrobatic Tenement and Mindless Self Indulgence's You'll Rebel to Anything, I've basically got enough interesting sound to choke a horse.[/i]
Music Recommendations
If it's interesting sound you like (and with stuff like Mindless SI on your list, you must be. good flarg, that), you should check out Tim Walters' The Dry Well. Very very odd.
Music Recommendations
Got a hold of InMe's White Butterfly the other day, and it was one of the best choices I've ever made. I haven't been able to stop listening to it for days and days. In fact, I don't think I've ever taken it out of my CD player. Very rocky with only a touch of 'screech rock' that was more common in their Overgrown Eden. The tracks grow on you from about the first listen and are very easy to find yourself humming along to or absently nodding your hand. I can heartily recommend it for all you rockers out there :P
Music Recommendations
I've been listening to Weezer's Pinkerton, The Academy Is..., and a lot of Billy Talent lately. Billy Talent is a realy interesting group...sorta like At The Drive-In and other groups of that ilk, but with all the spacey experimentalism stripped away. Then, for the exact reverse, I'm listening to TV on the Radio's Desperate Youth, Blood Thirsty Babes and The Mars Volta's Deloused in the Comatorium. I have to say this: even though I despise TMV for being a byproduct of the At the Drive-In breakup, the guys are really good musicians.
Music Recommendations
Ooh! Cool music. My favorite song off that TMV album is "Enertiatic ESP" (I think it's called). There's a good one of TV on the Radio's album (haven't heard the whole thing, sadly), called "Staring at the Sun". Some good tunes. :D
Point
Okay, ya i can see your point.

How do you mean, "point"? What are you talking about?

Not suprised. And they're at the Ren Fest today. Guess what performance I'm taking in? ;)
