I'd be all right with this, so I voted yes. It's like inviting our own in-house spectators with an option to join the show. And it'd be neat. Since non-game members can't do anything to the games then I don't see any harm in it.
I would be okay with this, since the new people would not be able to muck about in the games themselves without approval. I've been to plenty of boards that allow self activating registration, so I'm okay with this idea. Bringing on more members takes the pressure off of those of us who are desparately trying to figure out how to suspend time just to keep up around here.
That's right, Lou. The current user settings mean that a person registered on the board but not in any of the games has read access only to the game boards. If they submit a character that gets approved, they can be added to the usergroup for that game and then they can post to it.

Does that mean that newly registered members *wouldn't* be able to post in the games - as in their user settings wouldn't allow it and would need to be changed once a character has been approved for a certain game?
Currently when someone registers for the board, an email is sent to me that indicates that someone has applied for the board.
As soon as I get it, I generally just approve it (assuming they don't have a website address like nunsoncrack.com or an email of killer@i-eat-babies.com)
Since I instituted bans on ip addresses (3500 and climbing!) and put in the anti-robotic registration, things have calmed down enough that it might be time to open things up a little more.
I want to make registration on the boards self-activating. Basically once someone registers for the board, it will send them an email. If they click the link it will "confirm" them as a member.
Most phpBB boards use this system. Only the really exclusive boards do it the way we do. We've been an exclusive club but I am hoping to draw some new people in. Removing the barriers to participation would help towards that goal.
Note Membership in the board does not automatically allow entry into any game. Members still have to build a character, enter discussion and generally participate in a game to be allowed to play in a game by the moderators.
Should we remove the "Admin Authentication" to become a member o
It's ok with me, Dave. I had voted, only i didnt comment on it.

with roughly 25% of the membership having voted, I'm going to go ahead and make the change.
Seems to be generally acceptable to folks. If it causes problems I'll switch it right back.

I'm all for it. Can't see anything bad about it at all.

How does that sound to everyone?
